I even called to speak to a consultant before making the purchase to discuss the purchase. After one week I heard nothing, so I called to follow up & was promised a call back. I didn't get one, so the next day, I followed up again. Finally, I was told that someone else sold the item I bought & there was no other one available. What would've happened if I didn't follow up? As if that wasn't bad enough, I was then offered a lab grown diamond in place of the natural diamond product I purchased!! I offered other suggestions but was met with a rigid response, so I asked to speak to the online manager to work through a solution. She didn't even have the care to manage a phone call to resolve the situation. Just a throw away email a day & a half later. Now, nearly 10 days after my purchase, I receive an email advising that I'll get a refund.. which will take up to another 10 days. That's nearly 3 weeks before I can shop for an alternative, which means I will likely run out of time & have no present for a milestone anniversary. Thanks for turning a moment of celebration into a moment of stress Shiels!! Clearly we have different ideas of what "the leading jewellery retailer in Australia" means.

Going inside, the staff were friendly and knowledgeable. Looking at diamonds, they have a fairly large catalogue, and were able to source others not in the shop through a quick phone call. Taking price into consideration, although just as pricey as others on the main drag of the Mall itself, you could just tell that the quality of workmanship would be a lot better here. The reason I give 2 stars and not 1 is that we bought my engagement ring from them which I absolutely adore. So naturally I went back to them for the wedding ring. The service that I was provided when attempting to buy a wedding ring was just appalling from both the Marion and Rundle Mall stores. Particularly Rundle Mall where they had me in tears with their rudeness on one occasion. I never write strongly worded letters to companies, but due to the service being so poor I felt that I had to. The response from corporate customer care was lacklustre at best. There was a conditional apology, but no answers that I was seeking and no assurances that they would be able to help me in the future. I was not happy with their 'solution' and never took them up on it's offer because they wouldn't assure me that what I had already experienced would not recur. They have never followed up with me since.

Volker and Marianne Sprinkmeier have run their shop for 35 years, and both their daughters have inherited the love of crafting gold and silver. When you go into the shop, you see them working on strange machines at the back of the shop, from where they greet you with smiles. Every piece in the shop is unique - nothing is mass produced or reproduced. They make many pieces by customer request, and are happy to use your own designs or work with you to make a design that best suits you. This would be a beautiful way to have your wedding rings made, or a piece for a special occasion. They also do remodellings, and can make pieces from your own gold, so if you have a special piece that you want to turn into something else, you can keep the original material. Daughters Katrin and Michaela both design and make their own jewelry, which is quite different in style from each other's work as well as from their parents. There is so much to look at in this shop. Because of how it is made, most of the pieces have an almost medieval feel, which is so unique and interesting. They use a wide range of different stone and gems in their base materials, and it seems they could make anything you or they can conceive of.

I feel I should mention that just because the products aren't static, doesn't mean they're all strange and unusual. This is still stuff you'd want to wear or own. This isn't some sort of strange Gothic store or anything (though there are SOME goods that might make you think that). All told, this is a great shop and one I can guarantee I'll be returning to when I'm in need of a good birthday/anniversary present.
