Summary: 4.2. Very good contemporary Melbourne cafe. Equal to many or most highly rated places…read more Food, coffee and service are all excellent. Simplicity is the key here. Everything is done well. Nothing is over complicated. Review: The cafe is on the north side of lower Heidelberg road. It's a pleasantly laid out establishment. There are nice wood featured chairs and tables throughout. A wood covered front counter as well. Brick walls throughout too with one small tiled wall. There's a reasonable distance between tables. Nice lighting is also featured. Conventional music playing on the sound system, a bit prosaic for me but I could have just scored the wrong rotated playlist. Maybe needs something a little softer. Overall the space has a nice warm cozy feel that was very likable . I scored a pleasant greeting on arrival. It was hard not to notice the manager and staff interacting well with patrons, which enhanced the nice feel of the cafe. I had a beautiful coffee first off which came out quickly after I ordered it. It was a rich, dark, well made brew with impressive length. No half measures were taken on this long black. It was a beauty. The food is the key though, eh. It's a smallish menu here for all day breakfast and lunch. I found that an advantage as too many menu items can befuddle a simple soul like me. Nothing was overcomplicated and this menu offered ample choice I thought. I ordered the curds and beets dish off the lunch menu. This consists of goats cheese croquettes, heirloom baby beets, beetroot pesto and a frisée salad. It's a rustic looking dish but wonderfully so. It made for a gorgeous lunch that gave me all the freshness, health and flavour I was after when I walked in. The goats cheese croquettes were soft, delicate and exquisitely flavoured. They were really lovely. The heirloom beets of various kinds were excellent too. Tasty with just the right amount of give. Lovely greens with a good dressing as well. The side of peas and broad beans was really delicious too. I could barely fault these dishes which were very good. Maybe a tiny bit more seasoning on both dishes, although maybe many people want to control this themselves. I found myself preferring this cafe to a few of those in the inner north. The concentration here is on substance not style. I thoroughly enjoyed the cafe which has only been open a few months. Based on this experience, it will do very well indeed.

If you're looking for a cafe to catch up with friends in or want to read a book in a quiet relaxed…read moreatmosphere then The Tea Pot Cafe @ Eltham Library may be your solution. Eltham is a north-eastern suburb to head to if you want a dose of the country without leaving Melbourne. This small cafe is tucked into the Eltham Library complex making the most of the winding veranda. The seating on the balcony overlooks the nearby Alistor Knox park and Shillinglaw Cottage and you feel suspended in the bush setting. It is a great option if your walking your dog in the nearby parks and need to stop for refreshments, or alternatively it makes a convenient location for lunch or coffee break during an all day study session at the library. The staff here don't rush you and are friendly while at the same time leaving you to your own thing if that is what you appear to need. The coffee here is great and so are the huge scones, muffins and slices. The breakfasts are generous and made with quality ingredients. I almost wished I worked at Eltham Library, then I could visit Tea Pot every day!

I'm a sucker for freshly baked Croissants and as the name suggested, lots of tea pots on display,…read moregreat, I love collecting tea pots & cups too. Perfectly located next to a park, parking was easy and if I needed a book, the library is next door. It's the Eltham "country" look, mud brick, timber ramp & ballustrade, plain, natural colours scheme, the gallery inside brings another dimension, great polished timber floor, timber counter top, very weekend ambiance .... just not too sure about the Streets ice-cream fridge on the entrance and the bookcase displays. OK, Coffee is supplied by street brand Mio, so not the boutique roaster, however they make it work, also I did not say NO to the Green Tea Leafs, freshly brewed tea leafs is always an enticing proposition. The offering is interesting, Home Made Quiche, freshly baked muffins, Chocolate Croissant, Escargot is too good not to try, although I did have their big serve of Crispy Bacon & Sunny Side Up Eggs on toast with 2 Hash-browns ... price is up there, just like their quality, definitely will come back for more of their pastries and breakfast all day menu.
