I've had several frustrating experiences at Shimmer Nails--whether it's being overbooked, told they didn't have time for walk-ins, or showing up to find the salon closed despite the posted hours. It's been a pattern of poor communication and inconsistent service. That said, Jennifer was amazing during my visit. She was attentive, skilled, and really made the experience enjoyable. However when I did come in the gentleman at the first booth was not only rude how he was talking to me but he seemed very agitated that I asked could I make an appointment with Pim. Worst dip nails and regular pedicure I've ever had. I arrived early for my appt and was started 15 mins late. Three different technicians, one of whine disappeared for what was clearly a smoke break based on the smell when he returned. Asked for ombré dip and the owner showed me his appt book and told me he had no time for it. I chose to go with chrome. He used the drill so fast he was burning my nails. When I told him it was hot he told me I need to do acrylic nails. I haven't done acrylic nails in over 20 years. Never have I had an issue with dip. He didn't take the time to remove the red color from my fingers entirely before painting them a soft pink so the skin and my nail edges are still red. Two nails are cracked - I had them done less than 24 hours ago!!! The pedicure was awful too. It started 45 mins late and he rushed everything. For a "spa" pedicure it's a joke. Nothing spa like at all. And my friend who also had a pedicure was cut by her technician. After waiting 30 mins to dry my toes I was told it takes 4-5 hours (!) for my nail polish to dry. What? Since when does polish take that long to dry? I left my shoes off for hours and it still looks terrible. I was ready to go, paid, and was leaving when the owner told me they forgot to charge me $12 for a manicure. A woman trimmed my cuticles and they called it a "manicure" and charged $12. My dip "manicure" was $85! Absolutely insanity and for how awful my nails look they should offer to redo them for free. Do NOT waste your time or money here. Two days after my nails were done the one finger chipped off. In 3 years of having SNS/Dip manicures I've never had a chip even much less the top of my nail crack off. read more

They were completely crooked and when I asked them to be fixed I was yelled at and told it was my fingers, when I could clearly see they were horrendously done.. Worst time at this place for a new experience in a new area. I had two techs do my set. One couldn't do it alone. One cut me extremely bad then dipped my bleeding finger in the dip powder. I stopped him to say that wasn't okay. He needed to put the liquid glue on it. So now more people are exposed to that in the dip powder. I was polite while watching my show and they refused to clean up the extra polish said it looked perfect and didn't need to be cleaned up more. I never get my Nails done often. I had an appointment today at Shimmer Nails. What a big disappointment. My appointment was with Andy, but he was sick. So his wife, Tracy, did my nails. I asked for a full set, and a French Manicure. First of all, the length on both hands are not the same, where she started the white portion of the French Manicute is different on both hands, anx one nails is crooked. My nails look like crap! I wish I had never gone to this appointment. I spent $58.00 gor the worst set of nails I have seen. This was on a referral from someone who lives in Moorseville. I only know about this place thanks to a Groupon offer I had. And ever since I bought it I've been singing "Nails of America" to the tune of "Kids in America". I used my Groupon yesterday and couldn't have been happy with my pedicure. I was a bit early for my appointment but they took me right away.....and they were quite hopping for a Tuesday afternoon! They have the standard selection of OPI and Essie colors along with lots of bright, happy colors for summertime. Their magazine selection is just is great---rockin the US Weekly, OK!, People so I can catch up on my celebrity gossip! I got the classic pedicure and even that seemed more in depth than I thought it was going to be. They do some kind of sugar scrub and then lotion your calves and feet along with filing, working on the cuticles and other normal pedi stuff. When the girl was putting the lotion on my legs I smelled it and it smelled familiar. I started to think what it smelled like and it hit me---gummi bears!! Poor service. Took 2.5 hours for a manicure and pedicure. Worker doing manicure spent 15 minutes filing my nails before he even began painting them. When cleaning up my cuticles, he was actually pulling on my nail and not the cuticle. Don't go unless you have 3 hours to spare and want your nails to look like an amateur did them. read more

The lady doing my nails was on her phone and was on a PHONE CALL why she did my nails. She also kept looking around. She was very aggressive and the polish is messy, there are bubbles and she didn't clean them up nicely(or at all), and the polish isn't applied enough to cover my nails all the way. Literally the worst nail salon I've ever been to. One star is not low enough- I would give negative stars if it were an option. The owners and many of the other techs are extremely rude and unprofessional. When my mom went there to get a manicure, they put acetone on her hands along with cotton balls and aluminum foil, and when she asked them if it would be safe for her to go outside to smoke they said yes. Her hand immediately went up in flames, and after she smothered the flames and went back inside they were rude to her about it, knowing that THEY TOLD HER IT WAS SAFE. They also continued with the manicure and were rough on her FRESH BURNS. And tried to get her to put ice on it, the absolute worst thing they could put on her burns! Never once did they apologize. All this after they were rude to us the last time we went there 3 weeks prior because the man/owner who took our appointment messed it up and booked us wrong. And they were even rude to my young daughter for simply standing beside me (very quietly and well behaved) during my manicure. Definitely do not recommend going here, do not bother spending your hard earned money at a salon where, instead of being able to relax you're belittled and treated rudely the entire time. 10/10 would NEVER recommend read more

Kelly and Emily (if those are your REAL names....) are the best nail girls EVER!!! Over the last 3 years, I have come to Kelly and Emily to fix things from broken toe nails, to needing special designs for special occasions. Yep, I am one of those girls that cannot go 3 weeks without a foot fix. I love pretty toes and smooth heels, anything less is gross. These girls are from Vietnam, and strangely enough, I have learned a lot about the country that they come from--all while getting my toes did. They wax too. From eyebrows to bikini lines, they get rid of the cooties that happen to us girls. Men are welcome too. Many men have had pedicures next to me. Good for you, you will get laid more when a lady see's that you take care of yourself. Just a suggestion to skip on the pink polish, unless that is your kind of thing. I will continue to come to this location because of the superior service and quality of pedicure that I get. This is my secret 1 hour vacation. read more

If you want to spend 2 hrs getting a full set done and get yelled at by the owner when you question why it is taking so long this is the place you want to go! If you ever had your nails done everyone knows it doesn't take 2 hrs to get a full set removed and do acrylic. We have gone here 3 times and the 2nd time it took over 1.5 hrs to get nails done and this last time close to 2 hrs. Excuses as why it took so long was everything in the book including blaming the last person that did her nails. When I told them that they are the ones that did her nails - they said "long nails have to be thick". Which kind of true but wouldn't take 2 hrs to do her nails. I'm currently typing this review out and the owner is talking to another customer about me. LOL Customer service is great if you do not have a problem - if you question them about something it is obvious they throw all customer service out the window. All I would have liked is "I'm sorry it took longer then we thought" I am not sure if they took advantage of my daughter because she doesn't speak up for herself about why it's taking so long OR that they use nail techs that are extremely slow. I do know that everyone that came in after her apt time already left. Never, ever go here! I am from out of town, and I stopped here to get a quick color change for an upcoming wedding. I mistakingly choose a color that ended up looking horrible on my toes. I asked the employee, when she very first started painting my toes, if I could choose a different color. Well, she flipped on me. I even offered to pay for the color change, since it was my mistake. She proceeded to raise her voice at me, became very upset, and was extremely rude. It is very unfortunate how one single employee can ruin a business' reputation. Not to mention, there wasn't a single soul/customer in the store at the time, so it wasn't like they were extremely slammed, or I was taking up her valuable time. I am very embarrassed for the store manager/owner for this particular employees' blow-up and poor customer service that she provided. I bought two Groupon's from them. The first time I went I wasn't very impressed. The girls weren't very personable and the Pedi didn't last very long at all. My mom, sister and I went for a girls morning out and they were just rushing us in and out. I just went again to use my other Groupon and they were pretty rude to me. I didn't have an appointment but my Groupin was expiring and I was heading out of town. So I nicely explained the situation only to have two workers cut me off in mid sentence. I explained that that I would pay full price for a Pedi (in addition to my Groupon for a Mani). They still said no but they were taking walk-ins.
