Great place for alterations! The quality is top notch and affordable. The little man that works there has military stories for days.

The entire store is covered with cat hair... cats everywhere. I can't walk into the store without having a sneezing fit. I rented mess dress for an outrageous price only to get a cat hair covered uniform that smelled like crap. Never again read more

Was going to shop here after finding only slim cut spandex denim in the mall here but after reading all of the reviews and seeing it span for 5 years I think I will continue shopping online or drive else where to "take a chance" on a new vendor for my military shopping needs. read more

The alterations are very hit or miss. They've been in business for years and I was recommended by lots of people on base for their experience and prices. But this is a classic case of you get what you pay for. I brought in a uniform for alteration and it's taking 3 attempts to make the uniform look appropriate. There were alters made I didn't ask for that may have compromised the top all together. read more

Unfortunately, I have to give Shinbaum's a 2.5 star rating. I used them once in 2015 and everything worked out great. However, I tried using them again this month for my sister's wedding and they ended up never shipping the mess dress. I called 3 weeks before the wedding. The gentleman I spoke with was very polite and took all of my measurements. He said that the mess dress would arrive a few days before the wedding. It was two days before the wedding and I still hadn't received the mess dress. When I called again, he said that it had never shipped and that he could over-night it (with no guarantee that it would arrive in time). I declined and ended up having to rent a tux locally. read more

This place is great. We currently live about an hour and a half south of Montgomery and needed to rent an Air Force mess dress within three days. Their policy is no same day service and you need four weeks to place an order and have it get to you on time. I'm guessing some of this has to do with getting measured and shipping time. Anyway we told them we could drive up and pick the mess dress up if there was any possibility of having it that soon. We had to wait to talk to Steve (the owner or manager, not sure), but when we finally got in touch with him he said it was fine to come at our convenience in the three day span we had and he would set us up without any rush fees. Then we told them we were heading across the country with it and wouldn't be able to return it for 3 weeks. No problem. They didn't even give us a date it needed to be back by. Wow!! We thought we were going to be out of luck. Excellent customer service. Also, prices are reasonable. I believe it was 60-something to rent, and then we bought my husband's ribbons there (which I believe are cheaper than at the BX) which brought our total to 75. I can't say how much shipping would be if you needed to ship, but considering buying a mess dress is upwards of 400 dollars, this was music to our ears! Could not have had a better experience! read more

The outside is a bit innocuous and easy to miss, just a white building with Shinbaum's painter on the side. Awesome service, friendly staff. Some of them are kinda intense but that's just part of the charm. read more

I can't say enough about Shinbaums. Good timely service and quick to help you get ready for your event. The gentlemen gave me quick and easy-to-follow instructions for fitting my uniform. Unfortunately, I was more round than I measured..... Shinbaums expedited a package with larger pants inside. I will use this much appreciated service in the future. Money well spent. My father passed away recently, he had expressed his wishes to be buried in his dress blues. We could not locate it anywhere. My brother went to Shimbaum's per the advice of the pastor and the funeral director. They were able to get us a uniform with all the proper insignia and ribbons of the late 70s and early 80s which was when my father retired. We took my dads military records and they were able to get the correct service ribbons (including Vietnam War ones). SAME DAY service! We could not be more thrilled. This place is awesome! I just took my hat and ABU blouse to get my new ranks sewed on. This was a 1/3rd of the price for twice the quality of sewing as I got on base with my other blouse. On base, they quoted me $6.40 and when I went to pick it up (3 whole days later!) they charged me $15.25 because it was $6.40 each rank plus a charge for having to take the old rank off! I'm like they were some measley LT bars how hard is it take them off really. Anyway, this place says they don't do "same day service" but I went in at noon today, and I asked if they could at least just sew the rank on my hat, the nice man told me to come back at 5:00 so I returned at 5:10 and they had finished my Hat and my Blouse! Also, he had quoted me at $5.25, and when I went to pick it up he charged me $5.25!!! (A rare occurrence I'm finding!) I am super thrilled with the service, and the atmosphere. I would be wary if you are deathly allergic to cats, there is a cute grey tabby kitty that roams the place :) read more

I had some patches sewn on my Air Force ABUs at Shinbaum's. Have used them in the past with no problems, but last time one of the patches was somewhat crooked and just did not look right. My wife took the uniform back to have it fixed, thinking it wouldn't be a problem since we were semi-regular customers and, hey, it's a local shop that relies on keeping it's clientele (the military) happy. Well, the seamstress on duty was very snooty with my wife and actually said, "well, if he's that picky, then he'll just have to wait until tomorrow to pick it up." Which, was actually fine since I didn't need the uniform back right away and didn't ask for same day service anyway. It was the attitude. As if the lady was doing us some sort of big favor after we had paid them for a service. Well, clearly Shinbaum's doesn't need my business. It's a shame, though since I try to support the local businesses if I can, but I guess I'll just use the AAFES service for my uniform needs from now on. read more
