I've been taking private classes with Kate for several months now. We have 2 or 3 good friends come together once a week for an hour with Kate. All of us need slightly different things. Kate is exceptionally attentive to everyone's individual needs, constantly making adjustments through the session. She always seems to be right there when I need a little more guidance as a beginner. This is my first exposure to Yoga. I did not know what to expect. Kate is simply excellent. She sets a great tone, helps us all relax and focus, and blends instruction and care in just the right proportions. All of us always look forward to the sessions, an we always leave better than when we went in. I recommend Shine and Kate without reservation. Really good stuff. read more

I've only taken one class here but I loved it! I'm pregnant so I stopped in for a gentle yoga class during the day. The instructor was so good. Very zen and helps you focus on rebalancing and finding that inner zen. She was great at providing me with some modifications for any positions that required twisting or looked like I was struggling with due to the basketball I have around my waist currently. I left feeling refreshed, revived and light. I can't wait to try other classes! read more

Having been practicing yoga for around 9 years now I can truly attest to how special Kate's teaching is. I am not what most would call your typical yoga student. I am a 36 year old man-boy who's other physical activities include ice hockey, jiu jitsu, swinging kettle bells, hitting the heavy bag, and sometimes golf. I also enjoy many of the other stereotypical Neanderthal past times. I started taking Yoga to rehab re-occurring back injury. At the time I had the preconceived notion that many of the people I know still have; that yoga is just glorified stretching, that its not a workout, that it can be new age nonsense. (All untrue with the right classes) I luckily had some good teachers at the beggining and soon noticed positive effects. I started to attend Shine and practiced under several talented instructors. When Kate took over is when I stopped going to Yoga just to keep my back and other injuries at bay and when it became its own reward in itself. Kate's teaching connects everything that yoga does for my body and connects the spiritual teaching in a real world way. I have had other teachers who give a good workout, but that's all it is. I have also had teachers who tap into the meditative aspect, but either go to far as to not be relate-able, or completely forget the physical aspect of the practice. Yoga with Kate had made my hockey better, my jiu jitsu better, and my mind-body balance better. For me Kate's teaching is all about balance and I can honestly say that everyone could benefit from Cincinnati's best yoga instructor. Ben H read more

Bev's Sunday afternoon Restorative yoga class is a weekly treat. This is a relaxing, stretching class just what you need to wind down a busy weekend and prepare for a new week renewed. Plus a few times a year Ron Esposito comes and brings his chakra bowls which enhance the class. read more

I've been taking prenatal yoga here for the past couple months and I could not be happier with my experience. The studio is well lit and peaceful. They also have plenty of parking, which is also important! This Saturday noon class is guided by Patsy and she is informative, fun and so sweet. I hope to continue my practice at Shine after I have my baby to try some other great classes and instructors as well. read more

We booked an 8AM class and showed up five minutes early to find the doors locked. Nobody answered the phone either. Also no notification from the studio saying class was cancelled. Super disappointing. read more

Not my style of yoga. The anusara classes are more alignment focused and therefore did not provide the jolt or inspiration I needed. However, there are many people who could benefit from this style of yoga, including people new to yoga or those seeking a restorative practice. Never pass up the chance to take a yoga class from a new instructor! read more

This is a very nice yoga studio: clean, bright, well lit, with lots of mats, blocks, pads and bolsters to help you get into position. the instructor was very kindly and helpful, the atmosphere was cozy and very welcoming. I enjoyed my Restorative session with a sort of slow flow. Since I had never had Restorative before it was quite a treat, like being pampered. I can see making a habit of this sort of thing. There were a couple of challenging poses in the mix but a lot of it was stretching in a classic sense. I would highly recommend Shine to anyone who asks. Please note that they do not have a staff there all the time so you would want to turn up to ask questions because the phone might not be answered when you choose to call. They have great classes for pre natal yoginis, and classes for little yogis BUT no childcare so make provisions. read more

There have been some changes to Shine since October 15, 2012. Kate Noble has taken over as owner and there is only one room now, but Shine continues to focus on alignment and the principles of yoga. This is not a place that churns out "Sweaty Bettys". Shine goes beyond the action and reminds yogis that yoga is about breath, awareness and relating your yoga practice to everyday life. This being said, there is a REALLY GREAT 8 am flow class on Sundays with Sabra Lopez. I was sweaty and mindful! This is not just a place to check "exercise" off your things to do. I always leave the Saturday 10:15 am class with Kate (intermediate/advanced) feeling the muscles I forgot I was supposed to be using and my mind more open to life's little moments. I am a morning person so I tend to forget about the evening classes, but I have always loved the classes taught by David Martin. OH! And I went to a VERY cool Spirit Message event with Brenda. (No yoga was happening, just participating in an event.) So check out the website for current events. There is one bathroom and places to leave your shoes and junk. This place is my go to for mental health as well as physical activity. I have been going to Shine for about 6 years. Try different teachers, if you don't click with one, try someone else. This place creates a community in my life, and as you find the classes or teachers you enjoy you will find a place that makes you want to be a better person, a vibrant light and a lover of yoga. Kate's prenatal yoga classes on Wednesday nights were one of my favorite things about being pregnant. It was such a good opportunity for stretching and reflecting ...but also so nice to meet other pregnant moms in the area, some of which I am still in contact with now that my daughter is 6 months old! Kate is great at giving you things to do for your specific aches and pains....both during and after pregnancy. Highly recommend this studio. read more

This place is solid. The instructors seem knowledgable and friendly. The space is a little small, but cozy. They provide mats, blocks, etc. so it's ideal for first-time yoga persons (like myself). All in all, I'd say it's a very non-threatening, non-overwhelming way to try out yoga if you've never done it before. They probably have more advanced classes if you're into that sort of thing, but I just did the beginner class. read more

I began going to Shine for the prenatal classes. Both Kate and Patsy are intuitive and informative instructors giving each mom to be the attention needed. Kate will address individual aches or pains as well as give advice on how to have a healthy pregnancy. The partner class was also great for introducing laboring positions and how to relieve stress pains. The Baby and Me classes have been wonderful for easing muscles back into place and bonding with my baby girl. read more

This studio has the highest integrity and commitment to all the branches of Yoga that you will find in this area. The asana practice is alinement-oriented and heart-centered, vigorous and calming at the same time. There is a strong focus on breathing and meditation. Simply put, I am hooked! The classes are taught by excellent instructors. I am learning the basics; how to do each pose and encouraged and instructed how to take those poses to the next level. I love this studio! I go here whenever I need a break from working out/hot yoga, trade it in for some traditional yoga. They have a class for it all, restorative, normal vinyasa, and incorporate some meditation and positivity throughout your entire practice. The classes are small, the studio is very cute and makes me feel so comfortable, there aren't mirrors which gets rid of the "vanity" aspect or caring too much about what you look like. All the instructors I've had have been so welcoming, kind, and helpful. There is a parking lot right behind the studio so there isn't an issue with that and the studio is very clean. Great recommendation for beginners and long time yogis! read more

I have to second Bev's Sunday Restorative Yoga class. I've not been a regular, mainly because we have a fairly new baby in our home, but I was in a pretty negative and stressed out place last Sunday, and after Bev's class, I flet like a whole new woman. The class was full of insight, and wonderfully blissful restorative poses. bev brought just the right mix of instruction and freedom to relax and just be. I'm glad I just purchased another series of passes at Shine too, because I intend to make this class a weekly practice! read more

I get to Shine as often as my schedule allows - and that isn't nearly enough, unfortunately. I have taken classes from several of the regular teachers and a class on meditation - even a hooping class! The quality of all the instructors and teaching is superb. (All Anusara-certified teachers must have a firm grasp of the principles of Anusara yoga and alignment.) The studio is attractively appointed and mats, blocks and blankets are provided. The staff is really friendly - there are no strangers - and the instructors always ask if there are specific areas you'd like to work on. I can't say enough good things about Shine and Anusara yoga. I was introduced to Shine by Karen, who not only teaches there, but for many years, came onsite to my place of employment to teach yoga. Prior to her being my teacher, I liked yoga, but with the basic principles of alignment that she so lovingly taught, I learned to LOVE it! With a change in my personal schedule, I now attend the class that Patricia teaches on Thursday nights, and find her hands on approach insightful, fun and offers the appropriate of challenge.
