I am beyond grateful to have had the chance to work with Shannon for career coaching. I hardly express how incredible my experience was working with her. And on a personal level it was incredibly inspiring to me to work with a woman who started her own business with a friend which is now thriving and evolving as it grows. I reached out after 6 years of working in the film industry since college and grappling with the fear that what I had hung my identity on might not actually be the career I wanted after all. She started by having me take the Strengths Finder assessment. It was incredibly empowering to hear her dive into my results in such a personalized and in-depth way. I had taken the assessment before but hadn't really realized how much the combination of your strengths all impact each other and Shannon's explanations were so helpful in changing my views about them. I love the "basement" and "balcony" delineation too, which talks about the difference between times when you're utilizing your strengths in a healthy and balanced way, or remaining fixated and stuck in certain aspects of them which can become detrimental. I realized I was spending a ton of time in the "basement" with my Input and Learner strengths, which was a huge revelation and made so much sense in retrospect. Shannon helped me realize how much my beliefs about what I "should" want as a career and what I "should" do were holding me back from connecting with what I truly wanted and craved deep down. She took me from overanalyzing and a fear-based mindset to taking concrete steps forward. She also really helped improve my confidence by continuing to point out different aspects of my strengths which I was quick to discount because they aren't always measurable in super concrete or typical ways. I also never would have had the courage to reach out to the people I have for informational chats without her support. It was a huge confidence boost to learn that people actually did respond! The holistic approach that Shinebright takes is invaluable. I felt so seen by Shannon in a way I hadn't experienced before, even from past therapists! I loved the assignments each week to help me stay on track and the accountability of working on a shared google doc was also great. It was amazing to be able to go back and watch our sessions too because she dropped so much knowledge that sometimes I missed it the first time around. Shannon is so insightful and supportive and patient! It took me a while to find my direction since I was juggling the goal of needing to get out of my current job in the larger context of shifting my career. When I first reached out to Meike, I felt stuck. I was in a job that I had known for a long time wasn't the right fit--it wasn't what I wanted to be doing in the present and wasn't a career that I wanted for myself in the future. After the lockdowns and pandemic my life and career were absolutely devastated. I had such an incredible experience working with Meike, I wish there was something beyond 5 stars I could give. In general, I have a hard time asking for help (I'm an independent go-getter and a little stubborn), but moving to a new city while also transitioning jobs left me feeling overwhelmed and unsure. Working with Meike at Shinebright has been mind-blowingly amazing. When I think about where/who I was when we started working together six months ago...I was not 100% sure I was in the right career; I was not super confident about decisions I was making; I was undercharging clients; I was beating myself up whenever I was doing anything during the weekdays besides work. Nothing major or anything, but I was definitely not "owning my awesome," as my brother would say. My brother had worked with Shinebright at Stanford, and he gifted me a couple sessions with Meike. She not only gave me information about--and helped me understand--my Gallup strengths, but she also gave me the tools so that I could really capitalize on them (and kill my impostor complex once and for all). She is funny and super smart and warm and pushed me without being pushy.
