Shining Light Cafe was one of the highlights of our trip. We loved the homemade bread, locally sourced meats, and incredible pie, but what made the experience truly special was the warm hospitality. Talking with the owner and seeing the whole family involved made us feel like family ourselves, and our son loved spending time with the kids--it was even the first time he happily ate an entire meal as a toddler! The peaceful pace of the town and the welcoming atmosphere made for memories we'll always cherish. OMG if you ever want to go back in time and enjoy a home cooked meal made from people that enjoy life, this is the spot. Stop in for lunch/ late breakfast and found this little gem. The food was amazing, super affordable and the people were so friendly. It is 3 hrs from home but I think I might have to make it back sooner than later. Can stop thinking about that place. Shining Light Cafe is such a fitting name for this eatery. Truly home cooked food made with love and passion. You can truly feel like you are home when eating here as this place feels like your favorite aunts house on the holidays. Nice clean cafe just off the highway in the small town of Northome Minnesota! After reading the reviews, we thought we'd give it a try on a Saturday afternoon & we were very glad we did!! Small town hospitality like you used to get, with great food & friendly conversation! We had the Ribs & fries special and were very satisfied with the food & service! On some Friday nites they have Walleye & by the look of the sandwiches they served while we were there, I'm sure sorry we missed that!! Everything is made from scratch. The breads, the cookies, the Carmel rolls, and the buns the glorious buns. Since it opened in 2016 Shining Light has been a shining example in classic american fair done right and done using as much locally sourced products and it makes all the difference. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Specials every day. My favorite things are everything. Make sure to hit up the 'Bun Barn' as well I never leave without buns, and chocolate chip cookies. The owner got her start baking goods for a local farmers market and for years she would be sold out of everything before she could even unpack them from her car. Not kidding. Now with a storefront this artisan baker has brought a small community so much joy because we can get her amazing food anytime. read more

This place is incredible. The guy who said the drive from Kentucky was worth it wasn't kidding. The service was great. The food was great. I would come back in a heartbeat. Get the breakfast sandwich but use French toast for bread. I made it up and have yet to come close to finding something of equal caliber. read more

Eating at the Shining Light Cafe is like being invited into a friend's old cabin. It's comfy, and there's stuff all over that looks like it's filled with stories you haven't heard yet. And the food was home-cooked. I had the omelette with everything, and it was just plain good. I was mostly surprised by the prices. In the cities, the same meal would have sold for twice the price! Amazing! The 5 star reviews were spot on. Incredible home cooked food. Probably the best Grilled Cheese I have ever had! Homemade bread was beyond good! Husband had a delicious burger on an amazing homemade bun and the BEST onion rings. My chicken wild rice soup was fabulous and plentiful. Finished off our meal with apple pie! All of that...$24. I drove up from Virginia just to eat here, and it was worth the 24 hour drive. The service was top notch, and everything is made in house. Breakfast is served all day and we had the most delicious pancakes and egg breakfast (for dinner). The bread is freshly baked and so amazing. The homemade apple pie is the best I've ever had! They also sell really cool antiques around the restaurant, lots of neat things to look at. Northome is lucky to have such a great place. read more

This place is truly unique in the best ways possible. I have eaten here several times and have never been disappointed. The absolute omelette is 100% the best breakfast meal ever. In fact it's the only breakfast I've ordered here, it's that good. This place feels like home, but you don't have to lift a finger. I'm usually skeptical of small town restaurants, but at the Shining Light you'll feel like family. In fact I've noticed the owner always makes it a point to introduce herself and visit with guests when they aren't swamped. She truly cares about pleasing each and every customer that walks in the door. This place overflows with caring and kindness right down to the last details. We ate lunch here today because of the five star rating on Yelp. Now all I can do after enjoying my meal immensely is to give it five stars myself. We each got the cheeseburger basket which came with French fries and a small container of cole slaw. The slaw was a A+ hit in my book! I could have eaten a whole bowl of it. Now the burger was a hand made pattie that was nice and thick and served on a homemade bun that was sho-nuff good! The fries were fresh cut and fried perfectly too. One more thing about this place I really liked too was when our server brought our food she brought a squeeze bottle each of mustard and ketchup. Now that may not sound like a big deal to a lot of people but the thing was they both had just come out of the refrigerator and I absolutely love cold ketchup on hot French fries! Perfect touch! When we paid our bill (which was very reasonable) we also picked up some homemade caramel rolls that look delicious and although we haven't tried them yet I'll bet we're gonna like them! read more

When you think of a small town restaurant, this is it. Great service, good food and outstanding prices. Many people drive by Northome or through it without stopping but this would be a shame. My son and I ate here two days in a row and it was great fuel for our hunting trip. There's quite some variety in the menu and of course, specials are posted on the board. If you want to have something delicious later, grab some baked goods to go. If you're not from the area, chances are everyone there will know it, but staff is super friendly and you will feel welcome there. read more
