We were welcomed by soft music and beautiful flowers welcoming us. There was everything we needed in the unit for our weekend. The accommodations were updated and very tasteful. If we could say one thing about the Villa it was the upstairs beds were too soft. If you need a firm mattress sleep downstairs in the room with the twins . Our overall stay was wonderful. It was when I went to book again that we had an unpleasant surprise. Jeanette (the owner) told me we did not follow the check out instructions to take out garbage . She stated the head of her her cleaning crew said garbage was left in the Villa and then check out instructions were not followed. I was shocked! There had to be a mix up with which Villa the cleaning crew was talking about, because I personally took all the garbage out to the parking lot garbage bin located in the center of the parking lot in an enclosure. There were 6 of us ladies ranged in the ages of 49-58. We left that place as we found it and the list was followed. Well, due to this accusation I was very insulted. Jeanette insisted she was right. I canceled my current reservation as I was so taken aback and a bit shaken. I have never had this happen to me in all the years I have rented homes and villas. Then after a week or so I decided it was too petty and the other set of women I was planning a trip with wanted to stay at Ocean Blue. So I put in the reservation and deposit. I very quickly received an email from Jeanette telling me they would not be honoring my reservation and no longer would be allowing me to rent from them. I couldn't believe what happened... This was the most unbelievable experience. After all the years of sending people to Kiawah Island Getaways and referring them they treat me as if I am some dirty rat. Sad experience... and probably due to a mix up with which Villa the cleaners were really talking about. However, that is far from how you handle yourself in business and customer service.

The 3 minute walk to the beach was shaded and pretty. We read through the helpful robust welcome binder thoroughly. Specifically, check out instructions were detailed, and we felt encouraged knowing this is part of what keeps the property a great place to stay. It was when my husband went to book the following year and to our surprise, the female co-owner advised that they cancelled our reservation. Disappointed, we called for an explanation, and she told us it was noted by housekeepers that the property was "difficult to clean with a lot of garbage left behind" after our stay. We responded asking for specifics, could this be a mistake, perhaps a mix up with another unit - as we took such diligent care to honor the property throughout, follow instructions, and to leave The Shade better than we found it. We swept, vacuumed, wiped down every surface and are 100% confident there was zero garbage left behind. Jeanette was curt, rude and would give no further explanation. She then deferred by offering to "allow" us to stay in one of their lower-end properties which she thought would be a better fit. This was insulting and we opted to take our business elsewhere. Interacting with her felt unsettling. A red flag and poor business acumen. There was another poster on this string who described a very similar experience arguing with the same property manager who told her that check out instructions for garbage were not followed. Reading that provided some solidarity after the bizarre interaction my husband and I had. Perhaps it is a pattern with this property manager. Posting here in case anyone else views this and experiences the same. There is not much competition on the island, but I would recommend booking with one of the other agents on beautiful Kiawah Island.

Meanwhile they have our money and refuse to cancel our reservation because VRBO will charge them a penalty. T'lene wants us to cancel on VRBO but we can't because we will be charged a penalty. Buyer beware. These people are crooks! T'lene is a scammer!

The entire process was so easy and everyone I spoke to at Historic Charleston B&B was very friendly and accommodating. We were offered an earlier flight and came in way earlier than expected. We called to ask if we could leave our bags and come back for the 4pm check-in, but they let us check in early! Highly recommend booking one of their beautiful properties for an authentic Charleston visit.

My family group of 10 stayed here over the Easter Holiday and had a fantastic experience. There were 4 kids and it was perfect for them as well. The listing and details of amenities was just as advertised. Before we checked in, we got visit from Holly, one of the Property Managers. She wanted to do a 'walk-thru' to make sure everything was good. We stayed at the Aluha, which we would highly recommend! We especially liked the large parking area below, there is a large screened porch with comfortable sofas and chairs and two outside decks and one with a large gas grill. It's great location just across the street from a beach access point. The only thing that could have made it better was a Keurig coffee maker. Maybe next time?

However, this is a planned project building out a pipeline along the shore that they didn't mention anything about. This is not acceptable!!! And not good business!

Although…read morethe listing on VRBO stated I would receive a 100% refund upon cancellation, Coastal Getaways charged a $250 cancellation fee. I even explained I had lost my job and could no longer afford the trip and they would not be flexible. This was buried in a multi page document and NOT listed as a policy on the VRBO listing. It is VERY deceptive. I would not rent from them and if you do, purchase the insurance or be prepared to pay $250 to cancel. Terrible customer service and awful deceptive policies. BUYER BEWARE.

I had to cut my reservation by a week, originally set for a month. I emailed back and forth with Genesis Gomez, either the owner or one of Island Rentals salesman. He approved the change sent me a new contract with the nightly stay increased by over $50 stating that the monthly discount wasn't in effect now and that this rate was current. I decided to cancel the entire reservation. Gomez then informed that the return policy stated that I was responsible for the original reservation amount. After I contacted VRBO and reported that Island Rentals/Genesis Gomez was trying to cheat me out over $5.5K, I received a cancellation approval from Gomez telling me I should be thankful he didn't pursue this. VRBO should take a hard look at Island Rentals and reconsider their contract with Island Rentals of Hilton Head and especially Genesis Gomez( if that is his real name)

I ended the call and immediately sent an email to the reservation desk and also sent a text to Debbie at the sales department. As of this date no one has answered my email or phone calls. My question is "why is a gold owner being treated differently then a platinum owner" During my stay I will be visiting Tyler at the reservation desk. Terrible customer service, now I know why there are so many companies who specialize in getting people out of time share memberships! UPDATE I spoke to the General Manager (Andre) on 12/1 he reiterated that NO owner will receive any compensation for using their week and having some facilities not available. I asked why am I being treated differently then other owners who use their weeks during the summer months. He would not answer that question and just said the decision was to do the work during a low occupancy period, I asked how many owners were here and he stated 44 were present. So folks 44 owners and their guests are being treated differently then the prime summer time owners. Gold owners and prospective buyers beware you are not as valued as you think.

Elevators have been slow and super hot as long as we have been coming here. Parking spaces are TINY so leave the suburban at home if you can. As the island develops this is not a sleepy area to be in any more, either.... just private and a very nice place to come. There are gas grills onsite for your use. The Westin is close by, as are tennis courts and golf. The living area in these units is small, but the bedrooms are nice and the kitchen is decent. Overall an easy vacation spot that we love.
