First time trying Persian food - in Richmond Hill. In a strip mall just south of downtown off Yonge Street. Clientele was all Persian people so must be good. Had an olive and pomegranate salad with naan bread. Delicious. Family platter for three came with LOADS of rice and a generous serving of chicken and beef kebabs - see pic. There's a reason people in the Persian community recommend this place (words from a Persian friend). The food was delicious and as is expected, the serving of rice is more than enough to satisfy. We went earlier in terms of dinner time, so the place wasn't too busy and the service was good. There was a party of 30 people celebrating à birthday on the other side of the restaurant and it wasn't too noticeable with how much space there is! They even have a patio area for dining outside which is perfect for the warmer weather. Once I finish the leftovers this time, I would definitely make a return trip for the Fesnjan! read more

So far, I have tried "Sultani Kebab", "Koobideh Kebab" and "Barg Kebab" and my favorite has been Barg Kebab; it's both tender and juicy and right amount of spice has been used to marinate the meat. Came here with some colleagues recently for lunch, we ordered: Dip Platter with Tandoori Bread Darbari Kebab Feast (Chicken, Beef, Lamb) Garden Salad Torsh Skewer Shishlix Kebab Persian Baklava Growing up I was never a huge fan of Lamb but have been open to trying it more this year. Their Shishlix Kebab (Lamb rack) was so tender and juicy- I couldn't even believe it was lamb! All the meat on the Darbari Kebab Feast was soo tender, juicy and flavourful paired with Saffron rice on the side. The persian Baklava is also a favorite! Much less sweet than the Greek version I'm used to, and the pastry and layer if pistachios are crisp and crunchy instead of soaked in honey! Can't wait to come back soon! read more

We have been frequent visitors to this restaurant because we absolutely love the food and the music--it's always on point. However, the service from the waitstaff has been consistently disappointing and downright unacceptable. The waitresses don't even bother to put water on the table and give customers serious attitude, rolling their eyes when approached. On multiple occasions, we've noticed them crowding in a corner, laughing, and making fun of customers. This behavior is unprofessional and extremely rude. We've brought these issues to the manager's attention several times, especially since the same two servers are repeatedly involved. Unfortunately, nothing has been done to address the problem, and instead, the management seems overly familiar with the servers, which only adds to the lack of professionalism. I have never written a negative review before, but the consistent disrespect and poor service here leave me no choice. The food and music might be great, but the appalling service ruins the experience. Great food but prices are steep! Lovely Persian restaurant in Richmond Hill with a variety of kebabs, stews, and chicken dishes. I tried their Lamb shank with Baghali Polo ( باقالی پلو با ماهیچه) which is a rice flavoured with dills and fava beans. The ambience is nice -- they have both inside and patio seating space. The walls are decorated with Persian poetry and the service was pretty fast and friendly. I also love that they have so many side dishes -- I particularly enjoyed their Zeitoon Parvarde which are olives stuffed with walnuts and marinated in pomegranate syrup. My only reservation is their expensive prices. However, they do have pretty large portions which makes up for it! read more

Shishlix is a nice spot in Richmond Hill for some Persian halal food. It's been a long time since I've gone here, but they renovated a lot. A LOT. The entire place is completely different from what I saw as a child. The service is quite fast and I was seated immediately. The menu is pretty extensive and they have a nice selection of appetizers...the prices however are quite high. I guess the renovated space comes with a price. I decided on the vaziri (chicken and koobideh). While I waited for the order to come the server brought pickles and some fresh bread. What a nice touch! The food was prepared quickly, and the presentation looked quite amazing. It was served with rice and some pickled beets and onion as well. The food tasted amazing and the portion size was good too. However, the price point was quite high. There are similar quality food places at much lower price points. The ambience was nice though. read more

3.5/5 I've tried to quite a few of Persian restaurants and I always go for the kabobs koobideh and chicken leg kebab this one I can say is the best I like so far it is nice and juicy I love the rice I love the big portions great service I also like the naan bread very chewy and couldn't get enough of it especially when you order the dip tray which has hummus and eggplant two ways from northern Iran and Southern Iran the two different types of traditional eggplant dip very good and the yogurts definitely recommend this place if you want some Persian kebabs that are delicious the other stuff looks delicious my friend had the lamb shank and the lamb chops all look great I will try again next time read more

The food at Shishlix is good. It feels high quality, tastes sublime and does not leave much room for criticism. I had the Chelo Kabob (which for some reason they insist on calling 'kebab') Sultani comprised of sirloin and minced meat skewers and, which alongside the fluffy long grain rice, found perfect. I also tasted the lamb shanks and it was fall off the bone perfect. They are happy to swap salad for rice with their meals for those who like that option. Iranian restaurants offer free vegetables to start. Shishlix instead offered us warm fresh bread and butter and it hit the spot. Shishlix, like most Iranian restaurants, focuses on rice and kabobs, but they have a selection of stews. I should try those some day. Incidentally, the menu studiously avoids avoids calling the restaurant or the menu Iranian. Instead, it calls itself Mediterranean. If that is the case, Canadian restaurants could call themselves 'Central American' or 'the flavours of the Gulf Of Mexico' or even European. Why not? From Iran one has to travel to Iraq and then go across Syria to get to the Mediterranean Sea. Perhaps the presence of Hummus (an Arabic delicacy) on the menu gives them permission to associate themselves with the Mediterranean Sea, but then what about everything else on the menu? Geographic curiosities aside, the service was inconsistent. The girl who showed us to the table made no eye contact and looked unhappy. The waitress was better, but delivered the plates to the wrong persons. There was no quality check or water refills either. The water did arrive quickly once we asked for it. By that time there were three occupied tables in the restaurant, but they could not make being busy an excuse. Finally, and this was irksome, the loud clatter and bang and wallop and cacophony of the staff sorting cutlery, utensils and plates by the bar while we were eating diminished the experience. They either should do it while there are not any customers or be more delicate with the handling and placement so as not to disturb the guests. After all, given the quality of the food and expensive prices they purport to be a fine dining restaurant. Still, what counts the most is the food, and alongside with a clean dining room and washrooms, they get the most important thing right. read more

I and a business friend from Japon went to the Shishlix Persian restaurant in Richmond Hill, Ontario and ordered Bagali polo with fish, Cornish chicken BBQ and a lamb BBQ which served with fresh hot bread. The food all were very fresh and tasteful that II ever had in Toronto area. I used to go to Persian restaurants like Zafaron and North before. It is the worst experience that I have ever had. The food has zero quality. The customer service is zero. If Yelp has zero for sure I gave them zero, even one star is alot for them. We book a table, they suppose to have a singer and they told us that everyone should order at least $20, or we charge $20 per person, so we order food but the singer doesn't show up and our night was ruined, and the manager even doesn't care about our dissatisfaction. This is our first Iranian meal ever. We told the waitress we knew nothing about Iranian food and were just being adventurous. She responded with outstanding recommendations and attentive services to ensure that we enjoyed the food and the experience. The waitress explained to us that Shishilx's most loved item was ground beef kebob. Since there were two of us, she recommended us to order a Royal Dinner for 2 that came with ground beef kebob, veal tenderloin kebob and grilled chicken kebob, so we got to try many things. We gladly complied. All the kebob was fully marinated. Layers of flavours were infused deep in the meat. So much tender meat and nothing was too oily or fatty. For meat lovers, this is meat heaven. For sides, we opted for balsamic rice. I didn't know balsamic rice could be so soft. I asked our waitress how they made the rice so soft. She said it was a long process that included multiples steps. Sorry, I can't reveal the recipe here, but I am so trying it at home. Last but not least, the portion was big. We packed half the meal home. We have the distinct feeling that Shishlix is an authentic Iranian restaurant. Because other the waitress and the floor manager, I didn't hear anyone else speaking in English during the whole evening. There was a DJ and a singer on stage providing live entertainment. They spoke and sang in Iranian? Persian? I don't know; just not English. And all other customers seemed to understand what they said. Really would like to give 5 stars, we happened to drop by about a month ago due to an Iranian friend's recommend, now it has become our regular stop on weekends. We came last week, but was told the restaurant will have private party, we had to finish our meal at 5:15pm. There was only 45 mins left, so we had to leave, so phoned this time ahead of time, was told they were fully booked. But later got clarification, it was fully booked from 7:30pm. That is why I could give 5 stars because of the back and forth in order to have it clarified. It would be a nice idea to put a sign outside to let people know that instead of after being seated and told the time limit and had to leave. So please check with the restaurant prior to save the trouble. But the food is really the best in the area, nothing to complain. We love the complimentary naan, airways ask for another one, it will be extra $2.00, but worth it, soooo good, hot and nice texture, right out of one,. The beef, the Lamb rack, so juicy and full of flavor. Butter chicken is so so, not as good as Indian restaurant from our opinion. Must give it a try if you are in the area. read more

This location is convenient located in the heart of Richmond Hill beside the Da Style Clothing Store. Here the meals consist of mainly kebabs and the portions are sizeable. The dishes are lighter and not as greasy as other restaurants offering the same cuisine. Shishlix has a wide selection of moist and flavourful kebabs so you're bound to find one you like. They are served on a bed of mixed white and yellow rice accompanied by a welcome charred tomato. I was there with a couple of friends for late lunch. The Kabab, both kinds, koobide and barg, were great; juicy, well-seasoned and well-cooked​. Kashke Bademjoon and Baghalaghatogh come in adequate​ portions and were filling enough as side dishes for a table of four. Service was prompt and friendly. The ambiance was good with a ​spacious and well-designed​ interior. The only heads up I would give is in regards to its price. This was our first experience with Persian/Iranian food. I feel they have spices and flavours very similar to Indian food but then they have some surprise flavours in food which make them little different. They are creative with eggplant and nobody could think of eggplant tasting so good. We ordered kaskebademjoon, it's made of creamy yogurt sauce and served with bread. It was really good and the way they blended eggplant in sauce was great. We also ordered badejam kebab, again an eggplant dish but element of surprise was walnut stuffing and pomegranate sauce. Our salon ordered 4 orders or koobideh, lamb kabab, lamb shank & hummus. We were expecting each order in its own container. Nope. Im assuming theyre trying to save on theyre plastic containers ? So they decided to mix all the kabab in one big container, & all the rice in another big container . So everyones food is mixed, & others were touching my food. NOT IMPRESSED. Who asked you to mix all our food? IN ADDITION, doing this, you would need to put plastic plates and spoons and forks for each portion... NOPE? Nothing. Should i eat this with my hands????! So i call in, the man says it doesnt regularly come with plates , and spoons and forks would have to be 'requested' ..... I had eaten here twice. The food is good hence why people bother to come here at all, but the attitude and service of the restaurant manager is shocking. The second time I was here, it was for a private event. Our whole table got their food two hours late. Some guests left without being fed at all because the service was so slow! We had paid for sodas which no one had received until after most guests had already left. There was only 3 waitresses for a fully booked event, and it was obvious they couldn't take the extra tables. But what really threw me off is that the restaurant owner incited a fight with a guest over a chair. He was cussing and yelling at the families where there was kids listening. Food was even thrown! Practically ruined the positive happy occasion we tried to have. On another note, the owner invited his friends and seated them in our private event, without consulting us! They were even fed before some of us who were waiting two hours for food!!!! How unprofessional is that? Never book your private events here! Don't support a business who doesn't value his customers.
