DO NOT TRUST SHIVELY MOTORS! Earlier this month, my wife's 2006 Jeep Liberty crapped out while she was driving to the malls in Hagerstown. We had it towed to Shively Motors in Chambersburg for diagnosis. The lead service technician called the next day and told me that the transmission needed to be replaced (price quoted $6000), but he said he wouldn't recommend doing so due to the condition and age of the car. He charged me $185 for that diagnosis! Since that transmission had been rebuilt less than a year ago, I questioned the validity of his diagnosis and had the car re-towed to the repair shop that rebuilt the transmission. The breakdown ended up being caused by a failed transmission cooler (had to be replaced), not the transmission itself. Total cost to get the car back on the road was less than $1000. SHIVELY MOTORS should change their name to SHYSTER MOTORS. read more

1 star to give my 2025 ram sat on there lot for 4 months with A blown motor before I got it back . After getting it back we discovered it was damaged while sitting on there lot . I asked them if they would stand back of it . The gentleman plainly said I take no fault not my problem and walked away . We have asked to talk to GM and all we get is his not here . my wife's car we bought off of them brand new had tires that were plugged we asked how you can do this to a customer and asked if they would make it right answer there was NO . A friend who knows little about cars had her Jeep towed to Shively when it wouldn't start because she thought her extended warranty required work to be done at a dealership. Shively's then proceeded to charge her $165. to diagnose that her battery was dead, $267. for a battery and $100. to install it. And of course the warranty did not cover any of this. As an update, after posting my full review here and on Facebook 8/29/2015, I received a nasty email from Nick Garcia, the GM at that time, threatening me with a lawsuit for "slander", telling me that I would hear from their attorney the following week. I have never heard from their attorney, perhaps because their attorney was intelligent enough to understand that an honest review about a business is not considered slander. Shively is by far the best dealership I've ever dealt with. I did not purchase my 2017 Pacifica there but it has been serviced a couple times at Shively Chambersburg. The service department goes above and beyond to repair any issues. They will listen to your concerns and do everything in their power to fix it! I have taken my van to another dealer before switching to Shively 2 years ago. Best decision I've ever made. This year my van was having major electrical issues. I have 4 children ranging from 6 months to 10 years. The van was unsafe to drive as months progressed with this problem. I was afraid the cost to repair would be way more than I could afford. We read so far into this issue and how many dealers want to throw parts at the problem and not actually fix it because of how time consuming it is. That wasn't the case with Shively. They sent me home with a van just like mine, Deirdre who is an absolute sweetheart updated me periodically. It was definitely a difficult repair and I knew it from reading other owners complaints. Shively fixed my issues and I thank God, they covered this repair. BEYOND THANKFUL. May God bless all of you ten times over for helping me. Thank you for working so hard so I could be back up and hauling my 4 littles around in a SAFE reliable van. All vehicles have problems eventually, I'm not one bit upset I was dealing with car issues. There were some days I just wanted to park it and walk away, discouraged by possibly not ever being able to have it repaired. But I am so glad Shively listened to me and wasn't like other dealers. Shively service department was wonderful attempting to help me resolve the ongoing issues with the pile of garbage I purchased from Buchanan (never again.) When I finally grew tired of it leaving me stuck, I called in and got connected with Dan in sales. He got my into a beautiful Elantra for a great price. I was happy with my trade value, which I felt was high considering they knew the vehicle had issues. My payment is right where I want it. And my service fee from having my old car towed in to be fixed was waived. Everyone I encountered was incredibly kind, from sales to service to finance. The young men detailing cars that night were super sweet. And of course Dan was so much fun to work with. As a woman who has purchased quite a few cars on her own, I can honestly say I have never been treated with the level of respect I received at Shively. read more

The reason I gave it two stars because I can drive my car safely, apart from that I won't recommend for anybody to go to this place as their staffs have no empathy, uncouth even right down rude. They sent someone to pick me up from home as my car was not done the day I dropped it off, as they promised. NOTE: This review is based on one single visit for parts and service. It has no reflection on the purchasing department. However, our experience in parts makes us NEVER want to buy from them either! My husband had purchased a used Jeep Grand Cherokee from a local used auto sales place. Unfortunately, it only came with one key. The key it came with was the kind with a remote, and the key has a chip. We were advised to go to a Jeep dealership for a second key. We wanted a second key mainly in the event that my husband locked his inside, or if I needed to get in when he wasn't around to give me the key or something. Basically, a back-up. We knew a key with remote would be very expensive, so we just planned to get a basic key with chip to lock/unlock and run the vehicle. When we arrived at Shively Motors, we walked inside and a not-so-friendly woman asked how she could help us. We told her we were looking to have a duplicate key made for our Jeep, and she hastily pointed us towards Parts. There were four guys behind the Parts counter. One did greet us, which was a good start. But that's the only good that happened. We showed them the key and said we wanted a duplicate key. The man told us it would be around $300. Obviously he didn't understand that we didn't want the remote, so we explained what we wanted and emphasized no remote, just the ability to lock/unlock the doors and run the vehicle. Another man behind the counter said we could get the key without the remote, but it wouldn't run the car. Only lock/unlock the doors. We'd need the remote to start and drive the vehicle. And, it would still be around $150 or more. Now, that seemed fishy to us. Why a key, with a chip, would unlock and lock the doors but NOT run the vehicle just didn't sound right. We asked again for clarification about it running the vehicle, and they again said it wouldn't. We asked why, and their response was that it's a programming thing that won't allow it to start or run the car. The entire time we were there, all four of them stared at us and all the response we got from those who spoke were curt and unfriendly. They acted like they didn't want to discuss it or even help us. Plus, we knew their information was incorrect! We didn't thank them for their help because they were of no help, and they didn't thank us for coming in. We just left. I was fuming when we walked out of there. I can't recall having such a negative customer service experience! Later we found a local locksmith (Nancy's) who had a key with a chip and no remote made that locked and unlocked all doors AND started and ran the vehicle, all for around $70. Yep, Shively Motors lied to us in hopes we'd shell out extra money. Sleazy. I would NEVER go back and NEVER recommend them. read more

I didn't see one employee with a mask or gloves and there was NO social distancing period. Seen people coughing and manager was no where to be found. My car buying experience at Shively was top notch. I ordered a brand new 2017 Rubicon Recon. Eric was my salesman. He was always on top of every detail and always asked if there was anything he could do. Never have I had a better experience he was never pushy and well informed. If he did not know the answer he found the answer. And as for price don't waste your time looking on other dealer lots NO one will beat their price. I tried and even the big city dealers couldn't match them. I waited 2 months for my vehicle to come in and every step of the way Eric kept in contact and gave me updates. At the end even the finance guys were very down to earth and very friendly. This is the first brand new car I have ever had and the experience couldn't have been better. On our way home to the West Coast our 03 Dodge Ram began making some loud grinding noise as we left Wildwood, NJ. We stopped at Freedom Dodge in Harrisburg, PA after waiting over night till they opened only to find they only do oil changes and minor body work. They recommended we drive 25 miles the opposite direction of home to Ladd-Hanford Dodge because they have the tools. Because I didnt have an appointment I would have to make one for 4 days later. Then we were told the diesel mechanic might not be in on Thursday so it might be the following Thursday before the truck can be looked at. SERIOUSLY? We decided to just drive it until it broke or we made it 2800 miles home. We only made it to Chambersburg, PA before things went sour. We found Shively Motors who took it in right away and began to find the problem, A bad ring and pinion bearing in the rear end. We needed to be home in 4 days which wasnt looking to good. They ordered the parts, gave us a loner car and found us a nice motel at a great price and had the truck repaired the next day for $300.00 less than 2 other Dodge dealers. We haven't got home yet but no problems as of this writing. I am a business owner and service is very key for anything I do. I gave 4 stars instead of 5 because nobody is that good, if the repair was free then it would have been 5 stars. We are confident the repair will be a long term fix for the truck, if not I will write one hell of a negative response after a very loud phone call. **UPDATE, 10-23-2016** I am sorry to say that I was too quick to post anything positive about this company. I asked the mechanic 4 times if he was sure of the problem and there was no possibility of any other issues. 4 times he said "No, it's the rear differential, everything else is in good shape." The original reason to stop and have the truck checked was as I have found out was the ring and pinion in the front of the truck was the source of the noise and binding as we drove. After the front left tire froze up at 65mph and almost crashed into a Semi Truck that was kind enough to stop and render assistance. I was so pissed that I called Shively Motors to let them know what just happened and I was told to call back in the morning to talk to the service dept to make an appointment to have them fix the problem.GRRRRRRRR. After letting the person on the other end of the phone know what I thought and how I felt I had to hang up and deal with my problem myself. While under the truck on the shoulder of the freeway I then received a voice mail from Shively asking my location so they could send a tow-truck to pick up my truck, they will put us up in a motel until they fixed my truck for free. I never saw the parts that were removed for the original repair and now I'm thinking they might have been good and there wasn't a problem that I paid for. To get to the point without sharing the crap from the service manager, I was told it would take an additional 7 to 10 days to make the repairs and I would have to pay for the parts and service like all the other customers. I will pass this information off to others that deal with these things on a daily basis. After removing the driveline and both front axles with the help of the Semi Driver and a helpful passerby, I was able to complete my trip home. I will stop by Shively Motors to remind them of the poor service twice a year on my way to and from the East Coast for business. This is far from over. read more

I recently visited Shively Motors for a service appointment. To qualify up front, those I interfaced with could not have nicer or more helpful. My major complaint is that the Dealership knowingly and willfully totally ignores all suggested recommendations to control the covid 19 virus spread. Not one employee in the Dealership was wearing a mask and numerous people were intermingling in face to face discussions. There also appeared no signs of any cleaning or sanitizing on a routine basis. There were signs on the entry door about social distancing but that obviously was to appease the requirement since it was totally ignored. In a time when we are experiencing an explosion of the virus this ignorance or disregard of not only the customers safety but also that of the employees is not only unacceptable but also dangerous. This dealership needs to be evaluated by the proper authorities as they are potentially a super spreader of the virus. read more

Went to this dealership to have my vehicle worked on because my check engine light would come on and go off... spent $1,200 over a two week period and multiple trips back to this dealership, needless to say my vehicle doesn't run any better, my check engine light is still on.... i only let them do the work they did because they assured me that they things they wanted to do and the parts that needed replaced would fix the issue.... wow, shame on me for believing them.. I really feel like they ripped me off and replaced parts and did work that really didn't need to be done at this time... not sure where to take this issue from here, I am beyond frustrated and disappointed..... please keep in mind that my review has no bearing on the sales dept, those guys and gals were nice to talk to and seemed genuinely discouraged by my multiple visits to the service department read more

Bought two new trucks there in 2015. Take one in for a quick oil change and waited 90 minutes. Then the oil filter wasn't tightened enough which lead to oil all over my driveway and other parts of my motor. I take it back and tell the service manager and he says everyone's at lunch but they should be back soon. So I waited another 65 minutes to get my truck back. I could go on about my truck smelling like oil because the employee had it all over his clothes but let's just say, I'll never go there again! Service is horrible. read more

This is brief summary with many issues that may require a book writing, but I Already had a bad experience with Dodge (2011 Caravan bought else where), when I came to shively with a clock spring problem that was intermittent. They fixed it after some back and forth of them not being able to see a problem until I drove it back after the problem came up again. 6 months later I get a recall for the transmission programming that didn't surprise me because the transmission shifted hard. Not at all pleased with the Caravan we traded for an Avenger until I had another child and needed a new van but wasn't able to turn it around because of negative equity so I bought a ford windstar until I could unload the avenger as it sat gathering dust in the driveway. finally had an opportunity to trade the ford and the avenger on a Chrysler Town and Country 2011, another word for Dodge. Never really like it but I was paying for a vehicle I could actually use. The problem started when I allowed the expriation to expire 3 years in a row to roll it to the same month as registration for ease of managing the vehicle. Law states that an expired vehicle will be inspected and the sticker placed on it will be from the month of the inspection. They put the previous month sticker on it, against the law. then when I confronted them the service manager cursed and hung up on me and the owner said I don't spend money there and I got a free inspection from them anyway so it wasn't their concern. When I bought the vehicle they said free inspections for the life of the vehicle. And the owner also didn't care that I bough the vehicle there because I spent no other money and he "lost money". this would be zero stars if possible, customer service is poor by cursing and hanging up on people, they don't care about the customer or the money we spend there, they don't think anyone understand their business, they break the law by trying to use up previous month inspection stickers, and they had smug looks on their face when communicating with me. Not ones did I curse or become derogatory. And the quality of vehicle by Dodge is extremely lacking. The inspection station quality assurance has been notified of the issue and I will let them handle it. I will never buy another Dodge or ever use Shively for any business again. I suggest buying an Honda. read more

Had a rough start with Shivelys because i bought the car and 2 days later it wouldnt start. I talked with the general sales manager Daniel about the issues I was having and he did an incredible job making sure the issue was resolved. He apologized that I was having the issues so soon after buying, and got my vehicle in there as soon as possible so that they could figure out what was going on while putting me in a brand new loaner all FREE OF CHARGE. It took a couple of days to find the issue, but they found it in replace the parts that were needed at no cost to me and I have my vehicle back again running like a champ. I am thoroughly impressed at the dedication and commitment Shivelys made to making sure I was a satisfied customer. Their general sales manager Daniel is top-notch and the way he handled the situation is exactly how it should have been handled and how customers should be treated which is hard to find these days. I would definitely recommend buying your car from them. The only reason I didn't give this 5 stars as because of the initial issue. My son purchased his first "real" car from Shively's in Chambersburg in late August of 2015 and I co-signed for him. It has been in the shop ever since, with the exception of two weeks. The first time, we knew there was something wrong with the engine, but like Krystle, they supposedly couldn't find anything wrong with it. My son got it back, drove it another week, and the engine light came on again. This time, they took it to a VW dealer in Hagerstown...who had it for 3 weeks. I'm sure they told Shively's that it needed the engine rebuilt and they told my son that "the answer they gave them wasn't acceptable." So, they changed the fuel injectors and claimed that they still couldn't find further issues. Again, we picked it up and had the same issues. I finally had enough and the 3 month warranty was wearing out, so I took it to my mechanic Scotland Automotive. They did a diagnostic check and found the problem in one day. We knew then that we were getting snowed. We were able to get it to Shively's one more time before the warranty ran out. There it sits still. I have called, my son has called, my son has complained, I have complained. We were told that "a salesman will contact your son to resolve the issue." We have yet to hear back from them. That was over 2 weeks ago. So, no...I would not recommend Shively's for no other reasons but their sheer lack of honesty and not willing to stand behind their products. read more
