Dr Liu had been practicing for decades. I saw her when I had really bad hormonal issues causing painful and irregular periods over a decade ago. I've had the pleasure of seeking and receiving treatment from Dr Liu for the past 17 yrs to current. My parents referred to me her and I've referred to my friends. For several years I had been dealing with worsening asma and twice daily use of a combo inhaler, corticosteroid/bronchodilator. Dr. Liu was suggested by a family member and came highly recommended, so I decided to give it a try. I was recently diagnosed with Bell's Palsy on a Monday. By recommendation from my internist, I started acupuncture treatments with Dr. Shiwen Liu on Wednesday. I have to admit I was a little nervous heading to my first ever acupuncture treatment. But after an initial intake session, Dr. Liu put my mind at ease and walked me through how acupuncture can help with my facial paralysis recovery. I have had four acupuncture sessions since then and the results are incredible. The key was starting the acupuncture right after the diagnosis. Bell's Palsy caused the right side of my face to droop. I needed help to stop the pain. It had been a hard week. Two weeks before, until that day in Huntington, I had pain in my right knee, as well as a pain in my rotator cuff in my right shoulder, which I had treated with Mexican Naproxen, while in Baja Sur. It was hard to sleep because of the pain. When I had returned home fromBaja Sur, I'd gotten a case of Moctezuma's Revenge, which I'd treated with Immodium. On top of that, I took Z Pak for a bacterial cold. That had all snowballed and created abdominal ulcers that had bled out a couple of units of my blood. So I'd ended up in hospital for a night, where they gave me one unit ot blood, then told me that it would probably be a few days before I could get an endoscopy, "to look things over." (My gastroenterolgist, whom I saw two weeks later, since I "luckily" got an appointment then, due to a cancellation, told me that I'd needed "at least one more unit of blood. Maybe two." (I now have an appointment for an endoscopy, on 10 February, a month then after the episode of bleeding ulcers.) So I'd left the hospital on my own recommendation and took my staff of driftwood with me, to my home. The doctors were not helping me with much, especially with my pain, which had initiated this mess. It had taken the hospital doctors fifteen hours to decide to give me blood, even though I'd asked for it repeatedly, during that time with them. The next day, Monday 30 December, I was very weak, and in even in more pain because of that weakness, but I went to see a friend, and ate some lunch in Huntington Beach, then drove down Beach Blvd. looking for a sign for someone who did acupuncture. My wife had told me that there were many places to choose from there. I didn't know much about acupuncture, and had ony been treated twice, by what I know now were amateurs. I saw Shiwen Liu's sign and no others, even though she told me later that day that there were many others, on Beach Boulevard. I used my driftwood staff to get up the stairs to her clinic. She asked me why I had come there, to her, specifically, and I told her that I didn't know, that I liked her sign, perhaps, that it was the only one, that perhaps I had come there because of The Tao. She said, "Yes, The Tao." That first day, after Shiwen Liu's treatment, I walked down the stairs, still stiff and a bit sore, but much, much better, with much less pain. As I sat in my car, I couldn't believe that it had done away with so much of the pain, couldn't believe that it was possible, with acupuncture, done by someone who knew how to do it, very, very well, to stop my pain. My brother later went to her for treatment for his pain, and she told him that she had thought that first day, that reI was a homeless person, that I had scared her other l clients, that I was a bear of a man with a driftwood staff, some crazy, homeless man with tears in his eyes. She'd told my brother that she was going to treat me, for free, that day, just to get me out of there. I have since gone to her for eight or nine treatments, maybe more. She is a very pleasant and kind woman, with the aura of a scientist about her. One trusts her completely. When I last saw her, I mentioned, off handedly, that my right thumb joint had ached for a very long time, years, and she nodded and then stuck a few needles here and there. That years-long pain is now gone. Her treatment that day may not last, since it is arthritis, but I know where to go when and if that pain returns. Shiwen Liu is the only one whom I could get to see me during that time of escruciating pain, a month ago. All of my doctors were "busy," had "appointments," or were on vacation for the holidays. That first day that I hobbled into her clincic she had said, "I will stop your pain." Man,did I get l lucky in finding her. She had stopped the pain, just as she'd said she would. She is a very, very special person, one who knows how to heal and relieve pain for her patients, a true repository of five-thousand years, or so, of knowledge about acupunture and the healing points on the body. Beyond that, she took me and my brother, respectively, to lunch, and paid the bill. I, of course, will soon take her to lunch, at a restaurant of her choice. I am sorry that this review is long, but she deserves it and a couple of books beyond that, about her skill and her knowledge that helps her patients, immensely. A friend referred me to Dr. Liu for neck pain caused by bulging disks. The pressure on my neck caused loss of mobility to my left arm and neck. I had been to a chiropractor who made my neck pain worse and then to an orthopedic surgeon who diagnosed my bulging disks and had recommended surgery. Although I had never been to an acupuncture doctor before, I was willing to give it a try rather than undergo surgery. I began seeing Dr. Liu in January 2016 and within a few treatments I began to feel better. I am so glad that Dr. Liu finally has a yelp page so I can share how absolutely wonderful she is--not only as a medical professional, but as well as a compassionate and caring human being. She will go beyond what is the norm to help her patients. Dr. Liu is the first doctor (and most of the time only doctor) that I see for any of my ailments. My first visit was 12 years ago due to a sciatic nerve problem. By the time I saw her, I was taking pain pills and had passed out a few times from the pain. My husband had to carry me to her office. After her treatment, I literally jumped off the massage bed. I continued treatment for 6 weeks. Since then, I have never had a problem with my sciatic nerve. I recommended Dr. Liu to my 90 year old father (at the time) who was very weak and ill after the death of my mother. He was taking half a dozen different prescription pills including an unlimited amount of Vicodin. He was not only in excruciating pain (couldn't move his head) but on the verge of death (foaming at the mouth, fainting, not eating--down to 120 pounds from 160 pounds). He finally agreed to acupuncture. Dr. Liu had him sit down and poked needles into his hand near the knuckles and had him move his fingers. After a few moments, she asked him to move his head to the right. And he was able too! He became an instant believer of acupuncture and stopped taking all his medications. He gained 45 pounds and lived to the fullest for the next seven years (of course, he had weekly treatments with Dr. Liu during these years). Another story is when my 12 year old grandson was told he would need nerve surgery on his thumb/arm (couldn't move it after 6 weeks of physical therapy) related from a broken bone in his arm. After 4 visits of acupuncture with Dr. Liu, he had full motion of this thumb. Thank goodness we didn't agree to surgery! I love Dr. Liu! She came well recommended from a friend who's a fisherman. He had bad back and shoulder issues and she fixed him up for his 2 week long boat trip!
