Staying in Haarlem we went looking for a local restaurant after a long day touring in Amsterdam. We found quite a few places on
Hoofdstraat and picked Shoarma Grillrooom Ramsis. What a delightful surprise. It is a small, cozy restaurant, simply decorated but with a friendly feeling. Our waitress patiently understood our English and answered our many questions about the Dutch food. The vegetable lasagna was different than the usual US/Italian version but very enjoyable. The French Onion Soup was delicious with a generous helping of cheese and a bread crouton. The ribs and brochette was delicious with excellent BBQ sauce and a very generous portion. The Falafel small plate was plenty after some cheese and crackers at home. It was very delicious and served with a salad, small pita and some onion and sauce on the side. The whole experience was very pleasant and the food was not too expensive and delicious. They had a large selection of pizzas but we didn't have any. read more
