This place looks out on the water and the Amsterdam train station, such a pretty view when the sun began to set. The atmosphere of this restaurant was great, super cozy and plenty of room to sit with a large bar near the middle of the space. We stopped in for happy hour and ordered 2 Bloody Mary's & chips and guac to share. The Bloody Mary's were perfect and the chips that came with the guac were the best tortilla chip I have ever had! THT was next to our hotel, Sir Adam, so we decided to have dinner here. There were a lot of patrons sitting outside, but we opted to dine inside as it was chilly out. We arrived around 5:15 PM and dinner didn't technically start until 5:30. Didn't mind waiting, but extremely slow service. We hadn't decided on drinks when the waitress first came up to us, but it was a mission to wave someone down when we were ready a few mins later. There were also a bunch of workers who walked past and didn't check in even though we were just sitting there. They do offer a menu in English. After we were finally able to order, we ordered the Dutch bread, Caesar salad, and pastrami dish. They serve small dishes here and it's meant to be shared. Prices were decent and food was above average. I got the Dutch mule and it was pretty good and not watered down. The space is open, like a large cafeteria. It did fill up after dinner started so feels like it's the place where locals go for authentic food. read more

The only reason this place didn't get 1 star is because the view/ambience was amazing. The food was pretty awful. I can't imagine ever coming here if I wasn't a tourist; just an odd tapas/small plates type of menu which didn't taste very good. A combination of all the things you'd want, but the end product did not taste good. Our server was doing a laughably poor job serving us and there were numerous occasions where we got the food from the table next to us and vice versa. Got some cool pics though. read more

THT is so easy to get to! Grab a ferry from behind Centraal Station (the west side) to Buiskloterwegveer, get off and it's right on the left. Hop up the steps and in the doors to be greeted by a host or hostess. I loved the menu they use. Pick hot or cold dishes and then choose from pork, fish, veg, etc. (my favorite was the BBQ pork). They also have like a large tapas combo option for two. The food looks fancy, but you don't get that uppity vibe which I'm pretty sure everyone can appreciate. Aside from the food looking fancy, it's very tasty! You'll find some unusual items on the menu as well. The space is very nice and open and the service was very nice. Nice eclectic mix of Asian Indonesian Mexican and Dutch plates, with vegetarian fish and meat options. Easy to make a nice meal for a vegan vegetarian or pescatarian. A lovely little cafe right outside some of the big tourist attractions in Amsterdam. I expected the place to be more of a tourist trap than a place for good food, but I was pleasantly surprised when it wasn't. I had a delicious poke bowl, and the lunch sampler specials have something that anyone at the table can enjoy. Service was very nice as well and had lovely conversations with the staff. Inexpensive, variety, just across from Centraal Station, no bookings, and generally good food. Just don't get the pudding. A tapas-style resto, adjusted to the Dutch taste. They take some classics and add in their own specialities. A few standouts include the polpo with beetroot, the prawn croque monsieur, salmon marinated in jenever, and the rendang beef, though almost everything was good. The empanadas, sadly, were pretty dry and lacklustre. There was a good dollop of guacamole, but it was like empanadas had been described to the cooks. They'd run out of bread, which I take as a good sign, but we missed out - it's meant ot be good. Under no circumstances get a pudding. The best is a good selection of ice creams, but you just get the pot you could get in a corner shop. The cheesecake and whatnot wasn't worth the sugar that made my teeth hurt across the table from my mate. Even the sugar addict among us couldn't finish it - the only assumption we had was that the Dutch reserve puddings for children. read more

Really beautiful modern building close to the ferry landing. If you love modern architecture, it's worth a trip (in my opinion) just to see this building and the other cool modern buildings (the EYE Film Institute and another new tall building) nearby. THT is in the tolhuistuin (toll house garden) complex, hence the acronym THT. We went there after seeing a film at EYE. EYE has an attractive bar/cafe as well, but this looked more like a restaurant. As other reviewers have mentioned, the "small plates" are not that small -- the waitress suggested 3 per person, but 2 would have been adequate, even though we were quite hungry. The food we tried was quite good. In the vegetarian section of the menu, they had four cold options and four hot options. We tried five of these, and the ones I liked the best were the "pressed legumes" (like a vegetable lasagna with no pasta noodles) and the empanadas. There are many meat and fish choices as well, of course. CAUTION: THT does not accept cash, nor can they accept a credit card that does not have a chip. Fortunately, I had a U.S. debit card which has a chip, so that worked for payment. Failing that, the server said they would have accepted our cash, but they really aren't set up for cash. On Tuesdays from 8-11, the Swing BIJ group has a free swing dance lesson and swing dancing to a DJ in a large room adjacent to THT, which was great fun as well! read more

Had a fantastic dinner here last night. Food was delicious with many varieties of cold/warm vega / fish / meat tapas to choose from. The portions are sizeable and about 2-3 per person (5 for 2) is more than enough for the savory part of the meal. My favorites were the pressed legunes, popcorn satay and the cod pie, although I have to admit pork was nice as well. What struck me as kind of ingenious was that the dishes seem to come in about the same calory size, so you get a small portion of pork and a reasonably big vegetable burrito. They also had a allergen menu and english menu available for guests. Small point of inprovement was he service structure when you have some people take the orders, and others deliver. The food here is of extreamly High quality at affordable prices. We recommend the bbq pork and the fried cod pieces. We also ordered some bread and asked for some more oil which they refilledwithout hesitation. Between two of us we shared four dishes and some Dutch ice cream which was also really yummy! Attended a group dinner at this restaurant. The food was an exercise in the chef's ego. From five courses, one tiny salmon burger and two specks of chicken from a skewer were all that were edible. We were staying at the hostel around the corner and we walked by THT daily to get to the ferry. I was very hungry one day and decided to stop in for "snacks" since we were too early for dinner. The Coconut Curry Bitterballen (€5) and the Chicken Satay (€7.50) were both excellent. Overall the price was reasonable, and the atmosphere was open and causal. The weather was not ideal but they did have a great patio with good view of the river. If you are over this side of the city and need a quick spot to eat/drink/snack, stop in THT! read more

I just downloaded yelp to make this review. From start to finish the staff were attentive and never left my boyfriend and I hanging. The food was incredible, very different small plates that you can share so we ordered two plates each and that was the perfect amount for us. The service is what made our experience. The staff were great and they seem like they get along well as friends, have fun and kill it at their job. They're fast, on top of it and are very sweet while doing so. Everyone was really professional. The restaurant itself also has an amazing view of the river. We sat inside because it was a little cold out and it was super cozy with cute candles and dim lighting. Highly recommend to anyone visiting Amsterdam. read more
