In 1980, Johnny Van Name founded the John's Island Community Service League, a non-profit dedicated to raising funds for health, education, and human services issues that affect women, children and families in need. She created the Tambourine Resale Shop to fund her mission. The Tambourine Resale Shops sells donated nearly new and gently used items that include housewares, women's and men's clothing, accessories, furniture, jewelry, art and antiques. Over 40 volunteers staff the store. This year they are celebrating their 45th anniversary. The store is very neat and attractively organized. The clothing area is set up like a boutique with brand name clothes, some luxury. There is a dressing room area where you can try on. Prices seemed reasonable but always do your research. For even more thrifting fun, the Women's Refuge thrift store is right next door. Bring your current shoes and socks and they'll watch your form and check the conditions of your current shoes, and if you don't need new shoes, they don't try to pressure you either.
