A year and a half ago, I had a job requirement that made me wear black shoes as part of the uniform requirement. The shoe stores at the Orange outlets were closed, and I knew this had to be my last chance, and thankfully this place was open. I asked an employee if they had any shoes for work, and she was so quick and straightforward with her job. She found a good pair of shoes for me to wear. I tried them out and I loved them. I quickly purchased them. The employer at the time loved them and even though I don't work at that place anymore. Selection for running shoes isn't very good for shoe city and they follow you around the store and stand there and watch you while you are looking at shoes. They ask "can I help you?" You say "no I'm just looking..." and they just stand there ...if you walk to the other side of the isle, someone else comes up and does the same thing. I do my best to stay away from this place but I decided to pick up some running shoes on the fly. I'll also add Ive been to this location four times and they literally have followed me around the store all four times. I forgot to add that when i was at the counter purchasing the shoes, I used my card, and when i tapped it, the machine prompted me to sign, so I grabbed the pen to sign and the lady snatched the pen out of my hand, pulled the shoe box closer to her and asked to see my ID. I gave her my ID and bank card and she kept repeating "is this you is this you..." and then turned my bank card around, and looked at the number. I don't know if she turned the bank card around to get my number on camera to possibly scam me later or what...but then she gave me back my identifying items, let me spin the wheel which nobody ever wins and I left. When I made a right onto Brookhurst street from the parking lot, I looked to my left, and she was staring at me thru the store window. At this point I felt obligated to leave a yelp review because everyone in that store is a liability and it needs to be known how they treat the public in the city in which they operate. Yesterday I bought a pair of tennis shoes sketchers at shoe city,at she collected my money, gave me my receipt, and then took my shoe from the box and said she didn't think it matched the number on the box so I'm trying to leave. I'm in a hurry. My shoes are paid for and I have the receipt but she took my shoe from me and ran over to where I tried on the shoes and everything matched up like I told her, I thought that was very, very rude to do to a customer after they paid and received the receipt! read more

The lady that works there had terrible customer service. We tried returning something there and at first she said she could give us a refund back on the card and so the card number was on the receipt and she acted like she couldn't read it on there. Then she proceeded to say you needed the card present to have the refund back but it never said anything about that on the receipt so I was confused about that. I told her that they need to put that policy or whatever on the receipt because it never said anything about needing the card present to be able to receive a refund back. She had an attitude as well. Immediately, this employee (we didn't manage to grab her name, but she was a lovely middle-aged lady) approached us asking if we would like any assistance. She was very kind and helpful, giving us a few recommendations of her own as well as getting us a few that were of our size and preference. There was actually a GREAT selection of shoes!! We tried on quite a few pairs (2 of us trying on shoes, both 3-4 pairs) but did not feel rushed one bit or receive any annoyance/rudeness! She also gave positive comments of what she thought looked good. In the end, we left with two pairs. We payed a total (+tip for her amazing service) of $160. I wanted to buy some sneakers and looked through other stores in this plaza on my way home. I decided to check out Shoe City and immediately felt intimidated by the woman working there. I was just quietly browsing for some shoes until she got uncomfortably close to me and asked me if I needed something. Jokingly, I told her I didn't like one of the colors and I was still browsing and she made fun of me, implying that I was stupid for looking at the box. Some of the boxes were in the wrong places so I was trying to make sure the shoes I picked out were the color I wanted. She didn't need to be mean about it. She also just kept coming up to me and made me feel intimidated. I wanted to leave the store asap so I just bought a pair of shoes which luckily, were fine. I like them but I wish I had more time to browse to be sure I was truly satisfied. The shoes were within my budget which was okay but that whole experience left I sour taste in my mouth. As a black man with his wife and 3 kids in the store. I felt racially profiled. Was followed isle to isle. Offered no assistance at all and feel as if the customer service just over all sucks. No one should ever feel as if they are spending money in an establishment and to be treated as if they are a potential thief. I literally had my wife and 3 kids with me!! A pocket full of money and offered no help just followed around the store. I came here to look for a pair of running shoes since the ones I had were pretty worn out. They had a good amount of running shoes to pick from, but the thing that really turned me off about this place was their customer service guy. He was either the owner, a customer service rep, or lost preventions, but whatever his role was he made both my girlfriend and I feel really uncomfortable. From the minute we walked in he had his eyes on us like a hawk. I get it, maybe they're in a part of town that theft is very high, I don't know, but the way he just kept starring at us the entire time made the whole experience there very uncomfortable. I tried seeing it from his point of view, maybe he was trying to just provide customer service, but after I was looking at the shoes he comes up and asks me what size I need and gets it for me then takes it to the front for me to purchase, it honestly made it feel like he thought I was trying to steal the shoes. For the sake of having RETURN customers I'd recommend this place change their customer service strategy, since at the moment it is just straight up creepy, Needless to say I will not be returning here. read more

I would just like to commend the young man behind the counter at the Chapman and Brookhurst location in Garden Grove. Outstanding service. I had a pretty bad experience at the Harbor location in Anaheim. The young man at the Brookhurst location in Garden Grove was able to rectify it and took good care of me. He happily exchanged a pair of shoes that I had bought the day before at the harbor location. I am so grateful to him. I don't have $60 to just throw away. This place is so disorganized. You can't tell whether it's organized by brand or gender. Even the sizes aren't easy to find. Employees are nice, but not helpful. One of them kept watching from afar and noticed my sister and I walking back and forth because we were having a difficult time locating shoes and he never approached us. We managed to pick out a pair of Nikes for a good price, but to be honest, the shoe didn't look like it was the best quality. I feel like Shoe City in general sells shoes that didn't pass the factory check or something, lol. On top of that, they had a super sale outside of the store, but a lot of the shoes were not that nice looking, so I can see why they wanted to push for the extra sales with those pairs. The indian manager (Kadar) made all excuses saying no-one would buy return shoes if I already wear them. Every time I would go they're like hawks on you, watching your every move, standing at the end of the aisle WATCHING you. I understand the purpose is to prevent theft but if that's the case, why not place cameras on every aisle and place an employee to watch them? If I could give no stars I would....an employee at this store stole my gift card number and used it at the Costa Mesa store. Neither the Brookhurst location or the Costa Mesa location tried to help me reclaim my gift balance of $100.00. Corporate refused to provide me with restitution. I always buy my shoes there, so a little good faith and a little money would have bought them a lifetime of my business. However, corporate did not see it that way, refused to reimburse me even though their employee stole the money, their store processed the gift card purchase without the card present. The manager of the Costa Mesa store said corporate would be able to look up the transaction details but corporate refused to attempt any resolution. In fact, they were so rude, they hung up on me mid-conversation. I will NEVER give this business a cent of my money.
