One of the small straps broke and needless to say, my daughter was distraught. She had taken great care of these sandals, always careful to never get them wet. We were surprised that this happened since Birkenstock has such a stellar reputation for quality. We really didn't know what to do so we decided to go back to the store to see if there was anything THEY could do, repair or suggest a repair place. We arrived on Sunday, April 28, 2019 and was promptly greeted by the manager named Karen. We explained the situation and she asked us, "Why didn't you buy the leather?" This surprised me and I said I assumed they were leather. She said nope, these straps were synthetic. I explained that we were never told anything was synthetic. HERE COMES THE GREAT PART. The manager gave us full credit for the sandals and we decided right then and there to upgrade to the "real" Birkenstock's and get the leather sandals. Yes, we had to pay the difference BUT this was outstanding customer service and I couldn't be happier. My wife and oldest daughter will be shopping for sandals soon and guess where we will go? It's just something on how I feel. I keep thinking about something someone told me recently. She had just had her baby and was returning to work, and she told me that the company doesn't provide maternity leave. She had to use her PTO instead. I understand that a company may not be legally required to provide maternity leave. But just because something isn't legally required doesn't mean we shouldn't ask whether it's the right thing to do. Put yourself in the mother's shoes for a moment. You've just carried a child for nine months. Your body has gone through something enormous. You're recovering from childbirth while learning how to care for a newborn who needs you around the clock. You're probably exhausted, overwhelmed, and experiencing one of the biggest changes your life will ever bring. And at the same time, you still have bills. In fact, this may be one of the times in your life when you need your income the most. There are new expenses, medical costs, diapers, formula, baby supplies, and countless other things that come with bringing a child into the world. Yet instead of having some financial support during that period, you're told that if you want to stay home and recover, you need to use the vacation and personal time you've accumulated. To me, that's the part that doesn't sit right. PTO is supposed to give an employee some flexibility when they need time off. It's for vacations, family emergencies, illness, appointments, and life's unexpected moments. Childbirth isn't a vacation. It isn't an extended weekend. And becoming a mother isn't something that should force a woman to empty her PTO bank just to have the opportunity to recover and spend those first precious weeks with her newborn. I'm not saying businesses don't have expenses or that providing paid maternity leave is easy. I understand that companies have to consider their finances, staffing, and ability to remain successful. But I do believe we should ask ourselves what it means to truly support the people who work for us. Because an employee isn't only an employee. She's a person. She's someone's daughter, someone's wife or partner, and now she's a mother. And when she is going through one of the most physically and emotionally demanding experiences of her life, that is when support can mean the most. Imagine how different it would feel for a new mother to hear, "Don't worry about your paycheck right now. Take care of yourself. Take care of your baby. We'll be here when you're ready to come back." That's more than a benefit. That's humanity. And I believe companies have an opportunity to show their employees that they are valued not only for what they contribute to the company, but for who they are outside of it. No mother should have to feel that choosing to recover from childbirth and care for her newborn is financially putting her family at risk.

I felt that was the case here, the prices were not really great and one of the prices seemed like they were on sale at full MSRP prices. The value was only if you bought a few pares to get one half off. But I think we could have done just as well at Amazon or Walmart. Staff was nice and a little perk is they give you nice reusable shopping bags that are not the typical cheap plastic. They are worth keeping as travel laundry bags, pool bags or I know it's crazy but to keep your shoes in!

I had shopped with Fleet Feet about 10 years ago but they have since upgraded and updated their location and technology. It sounds like it's best to make an appointment, which I did not do, but happily Lucas was available to work with me right away. First we discussed what I was looking for in a shoe and brands/styles that had worked for me in the past. Then I removed my socks and shoes and stood on something resembling a scale but which actually made a 3-D scan of my feet. I then walked across a black mat on the floor several times, which analyzed my gait and whether I had any "hot spots." After these scans Lucas showed me an analysis of the shape of my foot and gait on a tablet. He then used this information and my sock preference (thin, thick or mid) to select try-on socks and a pair of shoes to try on. He used my feedback from the shoes to select other pairs of shoes. He also selected a pair of inserts to address my feet's needs and I tried on the shoes one with the insert and one without, so I could feel the difference. I tried on four pairs of shoes. The first three all felt good but in comparison the last pair just did not feel right and was quickly eliminated. I knew which pair I liked best so I put that on one foot then tried on each of the remaining two to narrow down to my top two, which I decided to purchase. Lucas brought out all colors of both styles so I could select my favorites. I really appreciated his knowledge and patience and am confident I have purchased the best styles of shoes for the health of my feet and body. Recommend!
