Its been raining a LOT in ny lately and I wanted to find some rain boots. I got there and unfortunately, their shipment had not come in. I was a little disgruntled, but searched the store for something else. A couple minutes later, a staff member approached me and said that the manager had made a couple suggestions for me because of the lack of rain boots. This place is huge. I went in and was able to find a pair of Sperry's right off the bat that was 30% off. Took a look on Zappos, Amazon and even froogled it and I couldn't beat the price so I bought it and was pretty happy with the sale. Why did I drop a star? There were 2 workers that I ran into. One young and one slightly older. I assumed the older one was the owner. He was literally walking around like a Korean Ahjushi and when I asked for help on boots he pointed with his chin - over there. When I asked for a pair of socks he said you can find them over there (chin point yet again). He seemed helpful once we started picking up pairs of shoes, but I didn't appreciate that from him. The other person working the counter and helping customers spoke very good English and seemed helpful but I didn't get to interact with him as much. I made my first trip to Shoe Village today looking for a pair of sneakers. The store is so much bigger than it looks from the outside and has a large selection, both full price and clearance. I was approached by the most helpful and knowledgeable sales person, I think the owner, who took a scan of my feet, identified my pressure points and sold me the right shoes for optimal comfort and effectiveness. I think the last time I received such good service in a shoe store was 35 years ago. The selection of shoes varies from very affordable to pricey. Something for everyone, of all ages. At checkout, I signed-up to receive email notices with coupons and other discounts. Am definitely going back next time I need to buy any kind of footwear. Called them to see if they had a specific boot and not only did they tell me if it was in stock, the person on the line took the time to give me colors and options! look, i'm a guy. My bf and I were already in Queens and I was desperately looking for Hunter rain boots and I didn't feel like shopping or looking for them in the city... Good selection. I actually enjoyed shopping here very much. It was the first time I have ever heard of this place and it was recommended to my by a colleague for rain boots. Too bad they don't have size 13 in anything I wanted so I actually had to just order what I saw there on Amazon and get the size I needed. Other than them not having my alien feet size boots, they were very helpful and the store was very clean and the free parking blew me away. Amazon and Zappos are great, but what's greater is walking into a shoe store, trying a size above and below, wider, all in 5 minutes and walk out with the shoes you want in 10. If you want to order 4 shoes on Amazon and return all 4 (maybe), be my guest. But if you're local, and want shoes or apparel, this is the place to look. Rarely will you have this selection with as many sizes along with customer service. They have entire warehouses along this side of Queens, which is rare; basically, this will beat any small shop that is limited by space to their basement along a queens street. Lastly, as with any retail experience, try on the shoes at home on a carpet. Literally, just sit on your couch and watch some TV. See how they feel. Measured me up and sold me two pairs of New Balances, buy one get one free. I remember telling the kid who helped me that they felt slightly tight but he insisted that my toes were where they should be and the shoes would stretch out after I break them in and be perfect. Well, they are a half size too small and killing my feet. I called the store to ask if I could exchange the unworn pair for a half size up and they won't do it. Now I'm stuck with two pairs of shoes I can't wear. I thought the whole point of a mom and pop brick and mortar store was top customer service? My first time at this place was today and it was an awesome experience. I came in to buy a pair of Tim's for my brother for Christmas and the employees were very helpful and all greeted me with a smile. I'm assuming the owner is an oriental man who was the most enthusiastic... He was a joy to meet and he even gave me a ten dollar gift certificate to use on my next purchase because of the holidays!
