We spent $60 on a Valentine's Day takeout order, and I've never felt more ripped off. For that price, you expect quality and flavor, but we got neither. * Portion Sizes: Extremely small. We felt like we were eating a child's portion despite the "premium" holiday pricing. * The Food: The mushroom soup literally tasted like warm water. The "fried rice" wasn't even fried--it was almost pure white and completely tasteless. To top it off, the chicken was incredibly dry and lacked any seasoning whatsoever. * Communication: Total silence. We never got a notification or update that our food was ready; I eventually had to call the restaurant myself to check on the status. It's clear they were overwhelmed by the holiday, but that's no excuse for serving subpar food at a $60 price point. Save your money and go somewhere else like Kobe's. read more

This is my favorite hibachi place to come to in Bismarck! The service is always great and they have so many options for hibachi as well as sushi, etc. It is a great place to bring the kids or also for a date night. I'm usually not one for hibachi, but I was pleasantly surprised with this place. The chef had impressive flare to his cooking (although no one seemed to be able to catch a piece of zucchini in our mouths). I went with two coworkers and we each got a roll before the cooking performance. The sushi was fresh and tasty, with some beautiful plating using cucumber. Dinner was at a full table, and even still, the chef kept pace, making sure there were not long periods of time where we were waiting for food. The steak actually came out medium rare (as ordered) and the scallops were evenly cooked and not rubbery. If you go here for your birthday, be prepared for a drumming daruma head to celebrate. read more

Best Japanese restaurant in Bismarck/Mandan area! They have Udon noodles, Sapporo beer, and great sushi (all great staples of an actual, pretty authentic Japanese restaurant). I'd suggest getting the spiced edamame as an appetizer for your table (it can get pretty spicy and overall "cleansing" if ya know what I mean -your sinuses- haha, but it's so delicious). This place is so spacious and clean. There is plenty of seating that coming here on a Friday or Saturday night I've never had to wait for a table because there's so many! The menu is excellent, there is so many options to choose from (even for non-sushi eating people). The bar is stacked; they make really great tasting drinks (although I always stick with Sapporo beer). The service is usually great! The best part of this place... the deals. They have different day deals, different happy hour deals, drinks deals, etc. The one thing I'd want from this place is... kimchi. I know kimchi is more of a Korean staple, but it'd be so great to add that to this overall amazing and huge menu! read more

It's a Japanese restaurant in a semi-abandoned mall, it is half Benihana half sushi bar. It is huge. It also serves Thai food. It's drink menu offered a Hawaiian mule (pineapple vodka, ginger beer, apple cider); it was good so I had more than one. It had a huge menu, I had an entree of steak and scallops that was cooked on the hibachi side; it was pretty tasty. It came with a side of grilled veggies and pretty decent yakisoba. It started with soup and salad which was meh. It allowed you to order nigiri sushi after your entree which I did cause I was famished; it was like a thimble of rice under the fish but it was good fish. It was good enough to order a second round. It got busy around 7:00 but it still had lots of tables cause this place is huge. It's staff was actually Asian which is probably why the food was better than a Benihana, although it didn't look like there were too many Japanese staff. It looked like some staff were Thai which is probably why it had Thai food. It was nice that the staff all wore masks. It was a great last meal in North Dakota! read more

Went here for a birthday dinner and had an amazing time. The hibachi is always fun for groups. The chef did a great job. Food was delicious. We had the lovers for 2 dinner and it was a lot of food (chicken, shrimp, lobster, and filet mignon). Also tried two sushi rolls which were amazing! Stopped here for my first visit while on a work trip. I was really surprised at how nice and how large Shogun was inside. They have a huge, full bar with ample seating. There was hibachi areas in the back and they also had a sushi bar. The booths were spacious and could easily sit 6. The entire place was really clean. I had the sushi dinner and the seafood soup. The soup came out first and it was delicious. It had a thicker broth with a nice touch of cracked pepper. It was really good. The sushi dinner was out fast and featured several types of sushi all of which was great. I would recommend stopping here for dinner, sushi or hibachi all seemed really good. Appearance as we walked through the door was inviting and nice atmosphere. We had 7 in our party but did not sit at the grills as we opted for a table this day. The waitress was very nice, fast, and efficient. We ordered some sushi for appetizer and it was awesome. The main dishes we ordered were all very good and nice portions on everything. So the hot Gekkeikan house sake here literally tastes the same as hot white wine -- which as you may imagine, is really not that appealing. I've probably had greater than 20 different house sakes -- I've never had one before that tasted like white grape wine. In my mind I was trying to figure out if they were possibly serving this instead of actual sake. I ended up trying the Gekkeikan Silver after that, which was only marginally better. But anyway... I also ordered the Red Dragon roll (eel, spicy tuna) and the salmon roll. These were both pretty tasty and fresh. The service was fast and friendly. Prices were pretty standard for sushi. Came in for a snack. Impressive layout from the door to the long bar then the Habachi area. I sat at the bar had a summit ipa and the 3 sashimi sampler . Service was good and the sashimi was presented nicely. Would like to come in next time for a full meal next time - but impressed just to come in for a snack. The best sushi place in Bismarck. They have a lot of special deals. I would highly recommend the lunch specials from 11-3 on Mon-Fri. The staff are very nice and polite. They check up on you regularly and are very good about refilling your drinks. Besides the fried rice being too oily and too much sauce on the chow mein, everything else was perfect. The sushi has a good ratio of fish to rice, their miso soup is pretty decent and the bento box was delicious. The restaurant has a very relaxing atmosphere and they have some really cool decorations. The bathrooms are really clean too. Also if you register on their website, you get a 20-dollar gift card on your birthday. I definitely plan to come back here in the future. If you are looking for a good Asian restaurant in North Dakota, then this is the perfect place for you. read more

We get sushi takeout here all the time and it's always very good. We went here for the Hibachi dinner one night. There were 6 of us and we had a great time. The Teppanyaki Chef did a great job and was lots of fun. We had scallops and they were perfect. I would have preferred more veggies instead of all those noodles. They played a loud birthday song and made the birthday person wear a mask over their head. We had so much fun and laughed for hours. read more
