And a great one!…read more After hours became days of searching for a good NY tour bus experience, my husband was smart and lucky enough to book us a tour with OnBoard New York. We chose the 5.5 hour See it all tour and it was worth every penny. Our tourguide Randy really knows his stuff. He even has that nice New York accent-- i thought he was italian! The bus was about half an hour late due to a street closure from a festival, but we didn't mind since Randy started talking about the history of New York and was showing us the various NY pictures before and after. The tour officially started! Our bus was nice and clean, not like the huge double decker buses that just drops people off everywhere. Randy came with us with every stop and was very knowledgeable about the history and the current New York. And you can't beat the free bottled water! The boat ride along the Hudson river to the Liberty Island was included in the tour price, and that went great as well. Our boat was fairly new and looked great. Seats inside were comfortable. Braving the cold, we stepped out to have our pictures taken with good ol' Liberty while the boat stopped for the photo op. The bus stayed close to the hop off locations. One elderly lady had a bad knee and opted to stay in the bus. We felt comfortable enough to leave our purses in the bus and nothing was lost. Randy was very patient despite the presence of a big family of Indian tourists in our group who was obviously not paying any attention and was making a lot of noise while he was talking. Some of them probably didnt understand what the tourguide was talking about. We didn't mind, but when they were getting downright disrespectful especially when it came to the World Trade Center, I was ready to shhhhh them. One of them actually tried to ask some questions about things that the tourguide just mentioned, but Randy was nice enough to repeat it despite knowing they were not listening at all. This family jaywalked and was dangerously trapped in the middle of a busy street, went missing in the Rockefeller center, and was just plain disruptive but Randy kept his cool. Way to go Randy! Part of our 4 day Christmas trip was a 51/2 hour sightseeing trip on NYC ONBoard bus tour on Christmas Day. On November 26, 2009, our credit card was charged $374.94 to take 3 small children and 3 adults on this bus tour which was to include a ferry trip around Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty on Christmas Day. We arrived at the bus location 20 minutes before its scheduled departure only to be told that the bus was booked and there were no seats available for our family! This was a Christmas present to our grandchildren and there we stood with our prepaid tickets in our hands...empty seats on the bus (which were being saved by others already on the bus for late arriving family and friends. Three of us had already boarded the bus when we were told to disembark. We had read the warning that any seats not filled 5 minutes before departure would be sold to standbys. We, however, were 20 minutes early!...What honest enterprise overbooks a tour bus? Even if only 10 people showed up....all the empty seats had all been prepaid and the tour bus company would not have lost a cent. But, by reselling seats that had been paid for a month in advance...and right in front of the ticket holders, this company practiced illegal activities...along with greed; corruption and dishonesty. Never, ever, book a tour with this company which has several different names because of their need for annonymity....NEW YORK PARTY SHUTTLE, with a Texas phone # 877 886 8769; ON BOARD TOURS 212 852 4821; and ONBOARD NEW YORK TOURS 649 919 8680. At first, I was unimpressed by the list of landmarks to shoot, but from the first one to the last one, I rediscovered them though cinema-like views them and photograph them with custom settings and amazing results. You come armed with your camera and take pictures of sights. But not just any other picture of yet another NYC landmark. Our small tour group of 5 had a wonderful time taking photos of NYC scenes and landmarks in a different way. If you are new to the wonderful world of digital photography, this tour is for you. It really is like a classroom on foot. Truth is, even if you are a pro, this tour is good just to hang out and take photos. Before the tour started, handouts were given with regards to location. Sam Levy explained aperture, speed, ISO and other things that any novice can understand. The "lectures" are in no way boring, condescending or elitist. At each stop, he whips out his ipad, and shows you the photo assignment of each spot. You will be forced to bend, look up and consider everything about the photo you have to take. YES, THIS TOUR ALSO TEACHES PHOTO COMPOSITION. He checks everyone's photos at every stop and explains how you can improve it. Of course it is a short 2.5 hour jaunt, but I can honestly say, it really is money well spent. You will never look at taking tourist photos the same way again. So you dont have a DSLR but thinking about getting one? Rent one from Sam! One of the people from our group was using a loaner camera from Sam. The other one had a point and shoot and another one was shooting with a micro 4/3 system. Renting one for one of these tours is a good way to gauge if you really want to invest in it. It allows you to live owning one, if only for an afternoon. I highly recommend this tour!

Located on 86 acres the mansion has many architectural details that are rare. For instance in one of the great rooms, the wood is the last wood taken from Sherwood Forest in England. The fireplaces are brought over from Europe and are from the 16th and 17th century. One is so large it is not even attached to the rest of the house. This is a beautiful place to tour to see the attention to detail that was put into the mansions from the Great Gatsby era.
