What I like best about the Shoppers Drug Mart is that one can find over-the-counter meds, a pharmacy for prescription meds, grocery, magazines, novelty items, "as seen on TV" items, and consumer electronics, all under one roof. Add a Canada Post to the convenience mix. Open until midnight. read more

This is one of the Shoppers that I go to the most. It isn't the closest but I find it more convenient than others in my vicinity. The closest to me would be the one on Whyte Ave and 109 Street. I avoid this one because I dislike getting in and out of that one's parkade. It can be quite difficult especially when traffic is busy or the bus stop right by its entrance is busy. It is also split into two floors. Back to this location though! I like that the parking is far more convenient. Although you have to be careful where you park. Part of the lot is paid parking so make sure you read the signage. There is some free street parking but that can be full when the area is busy since it is so close to Whyte Ave. I like the size and selection in this store. It is probably a small to mid-size version of a Shoppers store. It is open until midnight every night as well. They have a good selection for this size of store. With the merger with Loblaws they also are starting to have more and more PC products that you find at Superstores. I also like that they kept the funky retro neon sign from the old IGA that was at this location. It has always been a favourite sign of mine in Old Strathcona so kudos for keeping it. read more

This is one of the best Shoppers in the city. Why you ask? Because of the huge selection, for starters. They have more than I've seen in most Shoppers around the city. They also manage to keep the store clean! I didn't think it was possible but it turns out that it is! They also have very helpful staff. They are willing to help you with smiles too! That's a rare quality these days. I needed to buy a replacement compact because mine shattered (and got all over me, I might add) and they only sell the organic compacts I use at Shoppers. I went to one and they didn't have what I was looking for. The next one only had three measly little colours. When I finally got to this location, I was angry and frustrated. Thankfully all of it melted away when I saw the huge selection they had of everything - including my brand of compact. This is a great Shoppers and I'm so glad it's in the neighbourhood. I went here to get my passport photos taken because it's the closest place to my house. I was asked to wait for a few minutes, because there is only one staff member who does this service. She took four photos and decided that my face was too shiny. She sent me to the cosmetics counter and told me to get the beautician to powder me. This lady was very serious about prepping me just right. It was kind of funny. I felt like I was going on a high end magazine shoot. My photo was taken again and was perfect. When my passport arrived, I was thrilled to see that I did not look like an escaped criminal as I have in my past passport photos. Ironically, my previous photos were taken at a professional photo studio. Thank you lady at Shoppers Drug Mart. The reason for only 3 stars is that they shelves are not always stocked well and I have purchased expired items. This area needs a little more attention. They also need to have all registers open because it is insanely busy all the time. I also find the pharmacist unfriendly. read more

I'm really glad that this location is here as it's really convenient. There was a lot of sale product on the shelves so it looks like you can get some great deals here. I like being able to buy bus tickets etc. here. It does seem like this location gets rather busy on occasion. It's rather transit and vehicle accessible. I used to love coming to this location, especially when Bobbi-Jo was working the cosmetics department; she was so enthusiastic, helpful, and yes, even funny. She seems to be gone, and at least one of the managers has gone grumpy. I started coming here when I had a negative experience with the manager at the 104 st store. I was not feeling well, and while waiting in a long line at the post office I saw the manager who I had spoken to before on several occasions. He had always been friendly but this day he was brutal. I was embarrassed to admit I wasn't well and really needed the bathroom. He absolutely refused to allow it completely unaplogetically. He said it was against their rules. Funny, since he himself and several other staff members had allowed me to use the facilities a few times over the years. Yes, I have been going there for years. That all ended this day. Now I go to the other store on 109 st, where I am treated like a human. read more

Phoned to confirm the post office was still open, given the hours posted online during this COVID period are not reliable. Drove all the way here. Package was labeled and ready to send. Arrived 3 mins before closing and the woman working the post office refused to serve me. I appreciate wanting to be done work on time, but refusing a customer a quick transaction when you are still actually open is poor service in my view. If you plan to close early, then 8:55pm would be more accurate. I'll plan to use the more helpful location at 109th in the future. read more

It's no surprise I'm the Duchess of Shoppers. If there's one thing I like almost as much as grocery store shopping, it's drugstore shopping. I am a total product junkie. I try to do a cull every few months, but when I'm in a Shoppers (or a London Drugs or anything like that), I go in all, "OK. I need nail polish remover. That's it. That's all." And then I buy a few new shades of nail polish to go with my new brand new bottle of nail polish remover (there's logic to it in my head), plus free samples from the cosmetician, and a body scrub, and I think it will end there. I think to myself, I'm just getting beauty products. They all go together, at least. The cotton balls are necessary for that new toner I just put into my basket. Then I add snacks, an ice scraper for the car, and a water filter. Also cough medicine because it's on sale, even though I don't have a cough. And a disposable camera. As someone who lives in the relative area of this Shoppers and doesn't own a car, I'm very thankful it's here. It's not a perfect store, but I'm usually here once per week. Why? 1) Shoppers Drug Mart usually has the cheapest prices of butter anywhere. When on sale, you can buy a pound of Salted or Unsalted butter for $1.99. As a baker, I use tons of butter. And this Shoppers is conveniently located right next to Bulk Barn. 2) The staffers never seem to mind whenever I need cash back. The Whyte Ave area is strangely devoid of credit union ATMs and I often find myself needing cash before I go to the Old Strathcona Farmer's Market. I don't like paying $5 in fees in order to take cash out. 3) They will accept Life Brand items for returns without receipts. I bought a humidifier which didn't work as well as I had hoped, but this Shoppers accepted the humidifier's return without any hassle. They gave me store credit. 4) Some decent brand of toilet paper is almost always on sale. And as someone without a car, I prefer not to buy those gigantic 36 roll packages if I want a good deal. But there are some things I don't like about this store: 1) They do not sell bus tickets, the way a number of other Shoppers Drug Marts do. 2) It is only open from 8-midnight. As somebody who would potentially go here before 8AM, this is annoying. read more

I'm glad that my neighborhood Shoppers now has a post office inside it. I have a fondness for Shoppers Drug Mart and definitely go here once every six weeks or so. This particular branch is nice and spacious with a decent sampling of everything from the beauty section to the food section. Downside, NOT 24 HOURS! I wish this one was 24 hours. It's not like the Shoppers on 109th and Whyte is very far from me (that one is 24 hours), but it would have been great if this one was. read more

I came in to pick up a parcel from the Post Office. If I was reviewing only that, I would give more stars. The person working at the Post Office was fantastic. What wasn't fantastic was the cashier that served me when I had to make an additional purchase. Barely a greeting, and walked away from me in the middle of a transaction. Away, to the point he wasn't even in sight! I had to wait until he came back so I could get my receipt and get out of there. The store itself seems pretty well stocked, and clean. The female supervisor named Jesse was very rude. I was inquiring about a student bus pass and Jesse was not eager to help me over the phone. Thankfully I called a different location and spoke to a very kind woman who was able to inform me about the changes that ETS made for students due to Covid. When I came to this location, Jesse approached me to attempt explaining herself when she realized it was me who she spoke to over the phone. I told her that she had already made herself very clear and she told me not to come back. As somebody with experience working in customer service and retail, I found Jesse's actions as a supervisor very unprofessional. read more

This morning I asked about Grecian Formula for Men. I am a first time beard grower and my chin is white/grey :). Mara (Cosmetics) quickly replied, "Why don't you just let it come in naturally? I tried to reply but was cut off when told, "Everybody can tell any way? ". Again, wondering why I was being answered like this, mask on with face covered, I said I'd like to try it. She then pointed out a few grey hairs on her head, and I was told to to get used to it like she has.... Across 3 aisles I was told I was in a bad mood'. She introduced me to the manager as a person here to...'complain. '. This bothered me. I asked to speak with the manager. Allyson(manager) listened. I have been going to this place almost daily for 3 years due to pills required for cancer treatment and the effects of chemo. The store has many excellent people I know on a first name basis. Great location right off Whyte Ave. Love stopping by this Shoppers for any quick needs when I am in the area. They have a post office and pharmacy which can be quite handy when you are in the neighbourhood. I have picked up some toiletries as well, which sometimes are on sale! Parking is limited and you need to be heading to Shoppers to park in the lot. I usually am biking or walking which makes it quite accessible. Great customer service, as I keep coming back. read more

I was in this shopper's store on the evening of Oct. 24 to make a purchase. I spoke with a young lady and told her that she could save me a lot of walking if she could direct me to the item I had come to the store to purchase. Her response: " One moment please, I will find it for you". A minute or two latter she returned with four containers of the same product in different size and strength. I made my choice, paid for the product and was about to leave the store when this delightful, helpful, courteous, pleasant young lady said to me, "just a moment I will let you out the entrance door, that will save you some walking. This young lady , I believe, looks after the perfume section. I also believe this young lady should receive an increase in pay as this quality of staff is rare and hard to retain.
