This phase of the shopping center is anchored by a Harris Teeter, YMCA, Wells Fargo bank and a number of restaurants plus an animal hospital. There is a lot of real estate here making for an open plan parking area that is very well maintained and the landscaping is properly trimmed. Lots of parking. Easy access to Waxhaw-Indian Trail Road if you want to go south and Weddington Road from the west. There is a traffic light at the intersection for u-turns. They have a small number of ground-level spaces and a decent sized parking deck, but it's difficult to navigate and even if the traffic is light, it is difficult to get through here and find a parking spot. All it takes is one person to get into their car and suddenly, ten of us are all waiting for that one guy who stopped to wait for that space. Annoying as heck. I have given up on trying to find spaces on the ground floor and just go right to the parking deck. It's not worth it. Lots of great restaurants here and that's why I keep coming back.

As developers are more geared towards the "outside mall" theme for convenience, these modern day amalgamations of mall and strip mall have seemed to be the flavor of the day. Moreover, the ease of getting in and out of the area is easy considering the two main streets it resides on within a stones throw from the highway. Obviously the anchor store or interest point is Stone Theatres Sun Valley Cinema. This facility is clean and most of the auditoriums have very up to date audio and video equipment. The movie theatre is immediately flanked by restaurants on the right and left, catering to those families that may want to grab a bite to eat after the flix. As for the kids, there's a frozen yogurt shop and moving further out, a "lego" type of store and a pet groomer. There are more restaurants of a few different cuisines as well as a tabacco shop, hotworx, bridal ware, nails, you name it. Further out, a CVS is there, more nails and restaurants including live music at a few places, fast food, spa, salon and so on. SunValley has a lot of what most families need in a very small area. So if you're with the kids or a couple looking for some fun on a Friday night, chances are this area has you covered. Drop by and stay for a while!

The 14 screen movie theater is at the apex of the shopping center, surrounded by casual and fast dining restaurants. Two coffee shops, beauty shop, pharmacy and two separate auto repair outlets are here. Urgent care, wedding wear and even a funeral home. Yep, everything. Easy access from both sides with a very large parking lot that is designed to keep folks from going way too fast. And there's still room for more development. This highly trending area is certainly led by this shopping center of epic proportions. Without delivering you readers into list hell there's no way this review will be all inclusive of what there is to offer. I'll start by saying that even the typically low-quality stores you find here are several steps above and beyond any other location you've been to for the same chain. Fast food: McDonald's, Chick-fil-A, Bojangles, Starbucks, Quick Trip (QT). Fast casual: CAVA, Taziki's, Viva Chicken, Chipotle, Firehouse, Panera. Plenty of sit down restaurants including Chuy's, CO, Carolina Ale House and others. Haagen Daz and Menchie's for that after dinner fix. Or hit up the gelato spot in Whole Foods. Speaking of which, now you know where to get your groceries. This still doesn't mention the slew of stores, gyms, hotels, apartments and condos here. Even electric car chargers are available in front of Whole Foods. And while this is one massive shopping center, there's still another across the road and countless more within a short drive as this area explodes with growth. The layout is beautiful and incredibly walker friendly. You can people watch to no end. Or catch a sunset on the Whole Foods balcony. Lots of teenagers and kids are usually running around here so take that into consideration. Parking can be tight in some areas and at certain times. But you can see lots of expensive cars rolling through and enjoy the outside air on a nice day.

This cozy shopping center is tucked into the corner of Ballantyne Commons and Community House. Poke Bar, Ghengis Grill and Be's Noodles and Banh Mi make good lunch options for the slave-to-the-grind. Or round out the evening with sports on a patio at Gibson or Grape & Agave, a wine and tequila place. (Porque no los dos?) There are also some services including dry cleaners, shoe repair (don't see that often), nails and hair-dos. Not to mention a few schools of art and music which I think are aimed at kids. At the far end is a AAA for the ride. Getting in and out of here can be a bit stressful. Because of the location it's best if you're headed west on Ballantyne Commons when you leave out of here. Alternatively, north on Community House will lend itself to an easy out. I'm unfortunately not usually doing either of those, so I will suffer through U-turns and fast jumps out into traffic.
