One of the more demanding, but fun and tough courses to play at. The course is always in great shape and the greens are great to play on.

This is a phenomenal golf course. It is now my favorite course in the shore area and I always look forward to playing here. It is visually stunning on almost every hole and there are so many great holes. There is sand and water everywhere and you need to play smart. The clubhouse is very basic and no bar or restaurant so it is just a golf course. The course is usually in great condition. I used to play Sand Barrons and now that it is private I am glad that Shore Gate is available and an even better course then Sand Barrons was! 1/10 would recommend to anyone. I played this morning (3/21/23) and let me say it was one annoyingly loud round of golf. From holes 1-9 they had maintenance members almost on every single green we were playing not stopping what they were doing to let us hit. To the point we were just hitting if they were there or not and it was a mental struggle hitting the ball towards someone from 80-120 yards out. The second frustrating thing was a maintenance man on a tractor with a large leaf blower attached (not even any leaves on the fairway or green) followed 20-30 yards behind us from hole 3-9 making a very loud noise as we hit. We then went in side to tell the pro shop passing through hole 9 to only be ignored by them completely and them have nothing to say at all. For a 68$ round it was 0% worth it. And the hotdogs were not worth it being that frustrated read more

SHORE GATE IS PLAYING WELL! I read a lot of bad reviews from last year but we booked anyway. 2020 was a bad year for everyone and I guess the course too. But 2021 this course is looking and playing great. Tees, fairways are in very good condition. The greens were recently aerated so they were slow and a little bumpy but will come in nicely as the weather improves. You gotta do maintainance! Did the twilight for $65 and was well worth it. read more

What a beauitful Golf Course. Beautifully manicured fairways and greens. Challenging bunkers and Ponds, but plenty of areas for layup of your shots. Pro Shop and facilities throughout the course all top notch. Frequent cart service around the course and the ability to order food to pick up when you make the turn for 10th tee. Carts guys do a great job, with all carts being very clean. Course starter takes the time to explain the course and answer any questionoos you may have. Any course that has 8 out of 18 holes as "Cart Path Only" has a significant problem. The course did not appear to have any water issues that would warrant this either. Hadn't played this course for a number of years for the very same reason. Won't we back unless they change this ridiculous policy. Not worth it. read more

Very poor management. NOT CUSTOMER ORIENTED AT ALL.. Course is nothing special. Some nice holes, but ruined by sandy greens. WHO PUTTS ON SAND? They should let you know the greens are sanded (not aerated, sanded) when you book your tee time or at the very least BEFORE you tee off. I paid $105.00 to hit tee to green. Putting was not part of my game because of the sand. Very disappointing. Driving range is a joke. I have seen much better matts at a third rate, run down mini-golf/driving range. This is supposed to be "resort golf" My foursome and I had to share one rubber tee at the range. WHY??????? Witnessed the course manager START an argument with one of the guys in my foursome. My buddy, very calmly, not nasty and very "a matter of factly", made a comment to the starter about the course conditions at the turn and asked the starter to pass his comments along to "management." When we finished our round, the course manager was WAITING FOR US outside the "clubhouse" he immediately started laying into my buddy telling him he "can golf somewhere else and that he does not want his business." This guy just lost it!!!!!! We were not looking for a confrontation or trouble and we just left. Rather than address our concerns with the course, this guy wanted to argue. Since when can't you critique the course????? Overall a POOR EXPERIECE. I can spend my money at any course, why spend it where they do not want you? GO TO SAND BARRENS or any other course where you will be treated nice and they appreciate your patronage. read more

The current conditions are poor. It's a tough course under normal circumstances and fairways and rough with many areas of scant to no grass aggravate the difficulty. Traps not maintained. No gps with tons of fairway bunkers and waste areas also problem. read more

Club in good shape although rain caused the course to be wet. We played a threesome with nobody in front of us. It was cart path only. One of us also handicapped. All we heard was we're 4 minutes behind, we're 6 minutes behind. Nobody was behind us. How stupid can a course be. Cart path only will be slower although these brainiacs don't think so. One of the best golf courses in our area. The setting was beautiful, service and pro shop were excellent. Sitting on the patio area after the round made it feel like our group was on vacation. Challenging layout, fantastic shape and great service provided a top notch golfing experience. It was a joy to play. read more

Staff is incredibly rude. Course layout is very nice however the course was not in very good shape. On pace for a four hour round on a Saturday and the ranger was on us all day to pick up the pace constantly. We waited on groups in front of us all day and no one behind. This course has the most ignorant workers. I have never played a public course that acts like they are on the same level as Galloway. The greens are full of divots and poorly maintained. A thunderstorm started while my group was on the 10th fairway. We called to get a refund and they said no because we started the 10th hole!!! We only hit tee shots and were told no refund. WHAT A JOKE!!! The only positive thing was the girl at the snack shack. Course is HIGHLY overpriced and will never play again. read more

Played today, brought 6 guys to play. Staff was almost on the side of arrogant. Ranger was up our a$$ 3 holes in telling us we'd have to skip a hole, (we were 40-45 min into round on a course we've never played). Conditions were not good at all. Tee boxes were a disaster, fairways were in need of a cut, greens were decent but a little slow. Course layout is very nice just have a bad taste paying $100 to get treated like that when you can play many other courses in the area for less and get treated like they appreciate you being there read more

I go to Shoregate to practice on their range and played nine holes there last week and I am amazed with the attitude of the staff. The guy with the beard in the pro shop acts like he is doing you a favor by playing there. I came up a few weeks ago to hit some balls and putt and as I was going to the practice green I was told from the bearded one that this is not a public golf course and I could not just come up there and putt. I was going to putt first and then hit balls but after he rudely told me that I left. I came up at 5:45 PM on Friday to get in 9 holes in. The bearded wonder told me in no uncertain terms to be back by 8:00PM, which playing by myself would not be a problem. I played 9 holes in and hour and fifteen minutes and it was 7:15, I decided that I would play a few more holes. As I was walking on to the green on the 10th hole, the cart person came out and told me to "get off of the course, his boss sent him out to confront me because I had paid for only 9 holes"! He did this is a very confrontational matter which having played gold for over 35 years and being a member at a few private course I have never been spoken to like I have at Shoregate! I would never go back there because of the way they treat there customers. I am treated better at Avalon, the staff is much friendlier and they welcome you as a guest, unlike these pompous jerks! read more

Gold tees and red tees are on the same tee box today. Ridiculous. White tees are two tee boxes back from there, then blues and no blacks. One green wasn't mown due to it almost being lost, then punched and reseeded. No casual water marked although there were many areas that should be marked. Usually impossible to find a rake for bunkers. No ranger out to address page of play. For $105 in NJ, I expect a much better overall experience. This place seems to have gone down hill. I played Shore Gate on 9/13/14 with an 8:00 am tee time. My twosome was paired up with another two some who was also visiting the course for the first time. The starter was more than happy to give us a few pointers on trying to navigate the course successfully. This course is quite a difficult set-up with undulating fairways, lots of sand, and lots of water. The greens had been aerated about a week before and the fairways the weak that we played but the course was still in greatly condition. I was shocked at how quickly the greens had recovered, how true they rolled, and how fast they were. A decent amount of the par 4's force you to consider hitting something other than a driver off of the tee which is the type of course I really like but there always seems to be bunkers or water lurking off to the side of the fairway. The par 5 13th hole is a beast. I really enjoyed this course and would rate it slightly higher than Sand Barrens as Shore Gate is a more difficult course. I would be more than happy to play either course again and can't wait till I get the chance. The only negative about this course is that they had a gentleman selling magazines on one of the front 9 par 3's. I hate when courses do this and always rubs me the wrong way. read more

Overpriced and they want you to think your playing in the US Open. Great layout. 4 inch rough with fairways that slope. Hit three drives right down middle to find ball in rough. No intermediate cut. I am nit complaining because I played bad. I played well. Just fit the price there are many courses you can enjoy. With the comment from the bag kid. It's set to be tough. That explains the attitude. Challenging course...tight with a challenging blend of sand traps and water hazards...you need to play the course a couple of times to see to improve ball placement strategy....I would make sure that you have water in your cart, not many stations around...club house is sub-par for you 19th hole lovers read more

Had an alumni outing at Shore Gate on Friday August 12th. Very hot day, so the staff made sure we had plenty of ice, water, towels on our carts. The staff was well organized and assisted us with all our questions. Harry Bittner and his staff are a first class operation! read more

Played course and conditions okay, but greens horrible as loaded with sand all over them. And not consistent as some spots a ton of sand and others none. Ate chicken salad sandwich at turn and had the runs within 45 mins and ruined my back nine ... It smelled funny when I opened it and should not have eaten, but who would think a nice course would sell bad, unfresh chicken salad? I play a lot of nice, daily fee courses throughout mid atlantic and new england, and do not mind paying for quality, but this place just not well run all around. Be warned. read more

Can you say weeds and lots of them!!! I've played Shore Gate over the course of many years and have always found this course to be challenging and in great shape. I played today and while the fairways and greens were in good shape the rest of the course was borderline "dog-track". They are getting overwhelmed by crabgrass - it's everywhere. The waste area bunkers look like they haven't been cared for in years. The fringes around the traps were in horrible shape. The condition that this course is in is terrible - terrible -terrible. Certainly not worth the $105 greens fees and probably not worth 1/2 that. I will not play this course again until I hear that it's condition has turned around. i.m a 9 hcp and played on a 95 degree with 11 men this was the WORST EXPERIENCE in my 40 years of playing golf our 4some fell behind a 3some and we were harassed the entire day we played the front nine in 2 hrs and 25 minutes they wanted 2 15 and threatened to throw us off. when some one complained about the $115 we paid and the treatment we recieved the GM said he didn't care how much we paid.. all around rude. they don't appear to like vacationers read more
