Be very wary of booking a tee time here as it is heavily oversold. Yesterday, 8/19, my partner and I, who I was treating to a special occasion, had to walk off after 4 hours and we were only through 12. It is a great course made totally unenjoyable by a management that only views pace of play as a players responsibility. If you see only a few tee times look elsewhere you'll regret taking one. read more

Today my 13 year old son and I played Twisted dune golf course. The course was super challenging and a lot of fun. The staff was extremely helpful and welcoming. Top notch customer service. We thought it was awesome when we pulled up and they stopped us to get our clubs out of the car. We will be back. read more

Fun place. A little over priced but it's very unique and worth a visit. The conditions can vary but the fairways tend to be wide and forgiving. The staff was friendly. The carts were fine. The driving range balls were pretty nasty. Didn't get any food there but the snack/bev cart was around. The design is something of a "woodsy links" and it works for the most party. I don't think it was completely worth the price but it wasn't a ripoff. It's a great option for Golfers visiting the area to check out. And it's VERY good for a public course. read more

Worst place ever. Miserable people, horrible condition, dirt and rocks for bunkers. Pace of play is slower than a turtle crossing a one way street. Starter was mad that we were there early, then proceeded to become more angry that our two guys weren't on the tee box yet 10 minutes prior to our actually tee time, while the group in front of us were still on the tee box in front of us. Grumpy guy needs to relax that he can't get out of there a little early on a Tuesday. Friend who played there a week ago said he had the exact same problem. Beautiful course. Solid range too, had a good time. Halfway house glizzy was solid too, could've been hotter but had decent flavor and bun was nice. Two stars taken off for the extremely subpar (pun intended) customer service. Cart boys need to step up their game and their character. What a fun course! Very creative layout and the front nine is forgiving. The greens were in pretty good shape and you have wide open fairways. Would've like the drink cart to come around a little more often. But the snack bar made a really really good cheesesteak. And staff was friendly. One star knocked off for slow play. Played twisted dune yesterday...participated in a cancer fundraiser. I cannot say enough about the staff and the course. Mid April after a difficult winter I was not sure what to expect. ...the conditions were outstanding. Greens were true fairways were perfect. Amenities include a clubhouse with a small snack bar....no beer/liquor....byob Nice pro shop with shirts, hats, usual fare Picked up a Greg Norman twisted dune logo golf shirt for $35 Several interesting holes 2 long par 3 ' s A few blind tee shots. Be prepared for the cart paths.....not paved....Sandy...made you feel like you are in the desert. The fescue wasn't very high but I can see folks losing a dozen balls mid summer. Course is challenging but fair. I paid $100 for the outing but that included cart and food. I have seen good rates on golf now....figure on $75 for a round with cart and I would be willing to pay that. Next time you are in Atlantic City make a date with twisted dune. read more

SEE UPDATED BELOW FOR 2 star rating. Prior rating: Pretty course. Many of the waste areas are for aesthetics. The fairways are wide then narrow near greens. Wayward shots of any kind are gone. Don't spend time looking. I am always amazed how few higher fee courses don't put out a few range balls for warm up. It cost them nothing. I thought it was interesting that a "staff" member who was not working the day we played felt compelled to tell me the range is mats only, grass reserved for weekends only. Huh? What is the difference? It's mid season, turf is growing. Must have been a guy that feels it's his own course and I am intruding. Also, do not hit from deep fairway waste areas, they are all stones. It will ruin your club. UPDATED FOR 8/2020: What a disappointment, just over 5 hours to play. When we returned cart, staff asked if was "really bad?" We replied, yes, 5 hours is not fun. He went to tell another staff and that person seemed disinterested in the whole thing. PLUS, the greens are full of sand and cups have not been cut in, I would guess, weeks. There are huge divots all over. If golfers do not have the decency to replace divots, then guess what, the course has to. We are paying weekend rates on a Friday and we are sharing fairways with maintenance staff. Blowers and carts and lawn engines of all kinds all around. I am so very tired of higher rate courses that are a take your greens fee and then pack the course with golfers. No ranger, no pace of play. I am absolutely zero rush to return to this place. read more

Okay, so, this review is actually for Matt Callahan Golf Academy which is on site at Twisted Dune Golf Club. I haven't actually played this course yet but wanted to call out Matt Callahan for two things. 1st - teaching me a few key things that I need to change to improve my swing and my game and 2nd - for saving my life - literally! I signed up for a 6 hour golf school with Matt and about 3 hours into the school on an extremely hot and humid day the heat got the best of me. Matt made sure I got back to the club house and knew when I got there that I was not coherent. Others were there as well and I really am not sure who they were or what happened from there. I became more aware as I was in the ambulance and on my way to the hospital. Long story short - an overnight in the hospital and lots of fluids put me back on my feet. I highly encourage anyone to give Matt a shout if you need help with your game and know you are in good hands under all circumstances! Thanks again Matt. read more

Five hour round of golf because tee times are overbooked. Course drainage is horrible. Didn't feel like I was playing the course because of cart path only rules. It was more like a drive in the woods with some golf shots in between. So many better options in the area. read more

complaint isn't about the course, it remains one of my favorites in the AC area. What I am upset about is the NEW method they are sending off golfers; at the 1st and 10th tees simultaneously. Needless to say, this was never mentioned when I booked a foursome for a 7:03am tee time on July 2nd. We learned of it when we checked in and they stated that any delays at the turn have not been an issue and we can expect a 4:15 round. Needless to say, we played the front 9 in 2:03 and had to wait approx 25 min to tee off at #10 and 3 hours later we were done. When I expressed my displeasure at the front desk, I basically got the sorry but oh well attitude. My feeling is that when you pay $105.00 for a round at an early tee time, this should never happen. And, management should have handle the situation differently. But, that is their choice. Now, they have 4 golfers who may never return as long as they continue to use this method. And will serve notice to others to be aware and ask before they book a time if they are continuing this method. Because if they do STAY AWAY! read more

Horrible. I got a discount because I am a veteran so I only paid $50 and thank god. If I had paid the full fair I would have asked for my money back. I think E M hit the nail on the head. I spent most of the day looking for my balls in high grass and after a few holes of that I just gave up. Had it not poured on us making me bored and looking for golf balls I would have lost about 15 of them. If you hit off the fairway you lost the ball or you had to hit it out of the Jersey dirt - the famous hard sand with golf ball sized rocks. The whole day just sucked from start to finish. If this course was right by my house and only $10 to play, I would drive right past it on the way to a real course. read more

1) I lost 12 golf balls. Spent have my day climbing mounds and looking through grass. I thought I was a decent golfer, but this course was almost unplayable from the blue tees. I am a 10 handicap. Not really the way I wanted to spend a Sunday afternoon. It wasn't very fun. 2) The course was extremely busy and backed up on a number of holes. It took about 5.5 hours to play. 3) Too expensive for the region. Price was $99. Didn't think it should be worth a dime over $50 4) Tons of divots and chips throughout the course. Not exactly in great condition. 5) No cart girl and NO BEER! They dont have their liqor license. What kind of a golf course doesn't serve booze. read more

5* "as good as it gets" (for public courses). I've played at plenty of both public and private courses. This course can hold its own and has a lot of great/interesting/*unique* features. Very cool to be driving on the cart bath through HUGE dunes that you cant see passed on either side. Green speeds were great, not too fast (think august drought) but not too slow. Course was overall in great shape. Get there early, hit some range balls (they say about 40-45 balls) for $5. BYOB. Be prepared to lose some balls if you aren't accurate. Went off at 9am on a Saturday for $99. No one was in front of us, didn't wait on one hole. Only wish is that they get rid of the rocks in the traps. Not a deal breaker by any means... read more

I played here for the first time this weekend. I am really surprised after all the the years of playing golf down the shore I have never ventured to this spot. I'm disappointed I haven't gotten here early. Great course. We just had about 5 days of rain so the course was a little water logged in spots but nothing that you could not play out of. The course was in great shape from tee to green. There are no trees on the course which is nice considering 95% of the courses down the shore have trees lining every fairway. Because of the no tree aspect I found the course to be pretty forgiving. It also helps to put the ball in the fairway off the tee box....which I did all day long (virtual pat on the back). It reminds me a off a desert course in a way. Big brown dunes with fescue intertwined with the green of the fairways and greens. Visually a very beautiful course. It was $89 for the round which is reasonable for the shore. Their rates go to $105 once the summer hits and I'm not sure the course is worth that price. Don't get me wrong its a very nice course but you better be one hell of a course to break the $100 mark and I'm not sure this is it. This matches most of the courses in the area as far as price goes for the summer time and that is one of the reasons I tend not to play the shore courses past the spring. read more

For the price, I do far better playing the public courses in Brooklyn. We did encounter a wild fox on two holes that was beautiful, and very curious. She laid out on the fringe of the green as we were putting. Not sure that's an experience I want to seek out again, but cool the first time. read more

This golf course sets the standard for links courses, Friendly staff , well equipped pro shop , Practice range , putting green , chipping green .. The course was in excellent condition, it was like a post card .. ( fairways excellent shape and greens were quick and in excellent shape ) This course is a must on your Golfing list for courses in New Jersey.. By far one of the worse experiences i've encontered in a golf course in 20+ years of golfing. The initial interactions with club personnel were great until the first hole. Then it all began... Approaching the first tee, met and spoke with the starter. He explained the course's poicy and rules like every other starter should, what he didnt mention was holes 1,4, and 5 were cart path only. Due to hurricane Irene, I believe those holes were excessed waterlogged. Anyway, we procede to tee off and on we go. We drove into the fairway for our approach shot, then we heard a cart approaching us with a screaming and yelling ranger. Excuse me? Came straight up screaming and yelling (with emphasis)! Insisted the starter told us about the cart path rule. Insisted we were wrong, orderd us to "GET OFF THE FAIRWAY NOW!!!" Keep in mind, we are all adults here(40s), I can't recall the last time we were yelled at in this fashion... maybe 11 yrs old? Let alone at a golf course? As a customer? I am a borderline single handicap golfer and shot 8 over for the first 4 holes. Figure i'd throw this in for effect. The course closed down holes 13 and 14 due to the hurricane and wanted the golfer to enjoy the rest of the day with an all you can play for one tee time. So we took it and proceeded to play 3 more holes before a different Ranger approached us screamin and yelling like he had a personal vendetta. We couldn't believe it, dumbfounded, disgusted! Words can't explain how we felt at that moment. The Ranger indicated we played our 18 and threw us off the course. Mind you, three pro shop personnel indicated all you can play for the day. These people need to get it together. Is this type of attitude condoned at this facility? Or are we personally attacked for our minority status? What happened to etticate on a golf course? All in all, by far the worse experience as a golfer. Doubt we'll be returning ever. Too many options out there. Good luck and stay on the short stuff~ read more

I've been golfing at this course for the past 15 years and love it. I agree the people that complain about the rough and sand shouldn't be playing this course. It's way to hard for them. I would normally give them a 5 star rating but had to right this review. We were there on Monday 5/5/14 for our annual golf outing and we were really turned off by a person on the 8th hole try to sell us a golf magazine. We said no, but he was persistent. He said you get coupons, a cheap ass sand wedge and a chance at a golf getaway. It was really annoying. He was like a used car salesman. Speaking of that. We saw him later that day driving away in his $60,000 Mercedes. Very disappointed. We will not be returning next year. read more

My favorite course is Tobacco Road in North Caroline. This course is very similar to that. Beautifully manicured fairways cut through large hilly heathered mounds. The contrast in color between them is something to see. Wide fairways and large greens. The course is somewhat longer than most but not more difficult. The course in general is in amazing shape. Fairways are like carpet. Greens were immaculate. The back nine is even more visually appealing than the front. Nice practice facilities. My only complaint is for a course this nice they should have a nicer "restaurant". They don't even have a bar.That would have made the experience perfect. It's a shame the other reviewers had a poor experience because of the marshals but the overall course makes up for that. Cannot wait to go back. read more

I don't usually comment on golf courses, because being a novice golfer, I can't give to much input. However, the experience we had here today 5 stars to say the least! 8am tee time / rain & 40 mph winds = only 6 guys on the course = awesome! Staff was extremely accommodating. As for the golf, great layout. Challenging yet fun. Here's the high point of the day: The Food! Being in the restaurant business I can really appreciate great hospitality. Guy at the cafe (seemed like he ran the show) was great. For breakfast we had egg sandwiches - ones with Taylor ham & ones with bacon. Delicious! & it only got better....for lunch, 6 chilis with cheese, raw onion & buttered rolls - one of the bet chilis I've ever tasted. & to top it off? Homemade cherry cobbler - hands down best cobbler & one of the best desserts I've ever tasted. Wish we had time to stay for lunch afterwards, because the cheesesteaks & burgers sounded great. Best food at a public golf course I've ever seen. Keep up the good work guys. Will definitely be back next time we are in AC. read more

I played Twisted Dune on Sunday 8/4/2014 which was right after two days of significant rainfall. The course was still in great condition and we finished the round in 4:15 which is a good pace for being cart path only due to the rain (I'm just happy we were not behind the foursome that was behind us, they were on hole 15 when we were on the 18th green). There were a number of bunkers through out the course that were filled with rain water which was understandable due to how much it rained, however, I saw numerous workers on the course working to drain the bunkers throughout my round. Some of the holes like the par 5 4th and 9th holes or the par 3 16th are visually intimidating holes, however, a vast majority of the dunes are not really in play. Over two rounds that I have played on this course, I think I ended up in the dunes twice. Twisted Dune is not a great course for a beginner that has just taken up the game but is a great challenging course that is well worth the greens fee. Overall, Twisted Dune is one of my favorite courses in the mid-atlantic and I really enjoy how a course with little to no trees can make you feel like your foursome is the only foursome on the course all alone. read more

I agree with Peter H. that this is quite a challenging, Scottish style links course. There are absolutely no trees, but a ton of fescue and sand traps. Some sand traps appear smack in the middle of the fairway, although most simply line the fairways and border the greens. The course could use some additional upkeep, some holes do not look healthy. Though it's a little pricey for the region, the friendly staff and unique style warrant a few rounds! read more

The course was in great condition and was fun to play. The negative was that the staff allowed a group of 8 to play together thinking that no one was close enough to catch them. Well, they were wrong. It took me 45 minutes to play the last 2 holes because the monster group in front of me didn't let me play through. That incident put a real sour taste in my mouth about this course. I drove 1hr 20 mins from Fort Dix to play and that happened. Its frustrating. At least the course was nice I guess..... read more

I recently played at Twisted Dune with a bunch of my friends and we had a blast. A very challenging course if you don't keep it in the fairways. But it was in excellent condition! ! Fast greens and lush fairways The staff was very friendly and Nick on the bag drop was great! We also played the golf magazine par 3 on hole 8, and not only got my magazine for the year. But also ordered the wedge for shipping and handling charge. Got my club with in 4 days from the date I ordered. And was shocked at what a great value!! Came down from Long Island yesterday with my dad and brother and it was definitely worth the trip. Staff was incredibly friendly and accommodating. Driving range had the grass tees open. The course itself was in very good condition, well kept greens and beautiful fairways. The layout of the course was my favorite part: nice changes in elevation, vast bunkers, lots of twists and turns. My only gripe is that some bunkers were in horrendous condition, filled with rocks and pebbles. However, the good bunkers definitely outnumbered the bad and overall this is a must play course. read more

Played several of the Atlantic Area's best golf course this past weekend and with out a doubt Twisted Dune was one of the group favorites if not the favorite. I do see some low rated reviews and those are just ridiculous and way off base. This is a very good course that throws its personality at you of being raw and different,,and it delivers. Played this course six years running now, and I would not consider this layout tight. You really have to hit an errant shot to lose a ball here, in my opinion. It's challenging, but very fair. Losing 12 balls at this course? Must have had a really bad day, although a 10 handicap from the blues might explain a bit. This unique course is well worth the visit. Great course ! Do it ! Very playable links style course. Not much shade here so stay away on those hot and humid days because it is brutal hot. They could use a golf cart upgrade at some point... The carts look to be from the 80's but work just fine. Just funny to see these old carts at such a fine establishment that charges top dollar. Save your money, what a horrible golf course. 5 hours and a complete mess of a course. Water everywhere and looks like they do no maintenance. Cart paths are 1 cart wide and it's probably the ugliest course I've ever seen. Bunkers were mud not sand, I didn't hit out of one since there was no sand. Cut throughs to the fairways made it hard to get to your ball and caused the long round. The ranger hovers watching you play and is clueless as to what is going on. Told us to speed up but no one was waiting on us and you had to stay on he cart path so we walked miles to our ball. Not worth any amount of money. read more
