I'd heard great things about this place (hello, cashmere blankets!) and was just waiting for a movie that I wanted to watch before jumping on the bandwagon. They seem to get new releases at around the same time that a normal theatre would, but have fewer screenings. We came for American Sniper and there were only 3 days available, as the theatre seems to churn through movies quickly given that it doesn't have many screens.
As for the venue, we were at the Shoreditch location, which is located just under Barbour & Parlour. There's only one room and we arrived pretty late so walked straight in. We missed the commercials, but I'd say they were roughly 20 minutes long. And I was really confused because when I booked online earlier that week, it had showed most of the seats as full, but when we arrived, much of the middle of the row was empty - not sure if people are no show-ing? We didn't know better so we stayed in our seats on the side of the theatre, which still had a good view.
There wasn't any option to order food or drinks during the show, but a number of fellow cinema-goers had drinks from the 20 minutes before it had started. As for the seats... they were ok but not as amazing as I had imagined. I thought there would be a foot rest or something so that it is really like sitting on your sofa. Instead it is more of an armchair. You have a blanket and there is a small table in between the seats, which is for the drinks / food.
I wouldn't say the experience was particularly luxurious, but tickets were £18, which isn't that much more expensive than some normal tickets you get in London (ahem, Leicester Square). I've also been told that the Portobello location is the one that you should go to, especially given that it's the original. I think this is a cool concept that could be worth taking visitors to, or simply as a treat. I don't see myself becoming a member anytime soon though. read more
