Very hipster but so busy it does take away from the cinema experience we were paying for. For example, there's signage pointing to a dull concrete staircase that indicates the cinemas physical location, in the basement, but I still felt a little lost trying to collect tickets and buy snacks. One positive is that you can purchase food from the restaurant upstairs to bring down. Unfortunately, service is somewhat chaotic, as was the cinema's waiting room arrange bets for guests not eating in the actual restaurant. We ended up standing in a hallway downstairs waiting for theatre's only screen to be cleaned and re-opened. In our case, this was 15 minutes later than the actual scheduled start time of our movie. The theatre itself is luxuriously spacious. Cashmere blankets were available and each plush armchair is separated by a little table. So snacks are accommodated but no holding hands during scary movies I'm afraid. Things were fine once the movie got started but for £18 a ticket, I'm not a fan of the chaos we had to get through to get into the theatre.

Since it's not a deep layout you don't get the best cinematic experience. I must say that the seats on the wide angles are much cheaper but I would pay the extra and get a seat from a more central view.

Thankfully I don't live far away and Genesis is on my way home from work so when there's something good playing I literally swing by after work to catch a film before dinner. It's easy to grab tickets for most screenings just before the film begins but for big blockbusters (Black Panther, etc) it's best to book in advance even if just by 15 minutes. You can do this online, £1 booking fee applies for non-members. Saves you queueing up in the packed lobby as you can go straight to the pick up machine. Tickets are £5 Monday to Wednesday and £9-10 Thursday to Sunday. Concessions are available. Here's also a luxury cinema experience in Studio 5 which is a small screening room fitted out with comfy love seats and a couple of armchairs. Here's a bar inside the studio. Cafe in the lobby, bar upstairs (named after the Music Hall that used to be on the site) and a snack stand. Food prices are the typical cinema price. Membership programme is worth it if you plan on seeing more than 2-3 films a month. For students the Silver membership is only £15. This means if you plan on seeing just 2 movies Thursday-Sunday in a month, you'll get your money's worth with a membership. For everyone else it's £20. This entitled members to unlimited viewings in screens 1-3 and discounted entry for luxury screenings. Members also get into special screenings for free. Special screenings happen multiple times a week and range from Q&A with directors and cast to panel discussions & singalongs to slam poetry nights It's brilliant to see Genesis lit up every time I pass by. Such a special place for film enthusiasts! I encourage everyone to go if they get a chance.

I've never before encountered a video store with so much space dedicated to artists' biographies and retrospectives, nor such a vast collection of short compilations. They also have a cherry picked collection of documentaries - I have trouble not taking the entire shelf home with me when I pay a visit since they've got so many that sound intriguing and got top-marks at film festivals (Sundance, Cannes, Toronto), but for whatever reason, never made it into the popular distribution a la Michael Moore (though they have him too). Oh, and of course, it goes without saying that their classics section is also phenomenal - complete with companion book volumes upstairs on sale to go along with certain particularly notable films - for the true cinephiles. The staff is uber knowledgeable about what's in the store's collection - it's clear to see that these are the types that breathe, sleep, and dream film. And the prices are pretty reasonable - especially if you go for the unlimited rental option, which only costs £20 (otherwise, it's £3 per rental). *Only* complaint is that the films are organized by directors... which I'm sure is totally intuitive for die-hard film lovers... but not always so much for those of us who are a little less erudite - I mean, I appreciate the education I've received on this matter and all as a result... but it's not always the most convenient!

I used to have a membership here for the cinema when I was local, which is really good value if you come often as you always get a discount and also free tickets when you join. For non members, they do cheap tickets all day on Mondays - £6 for one ticket, or 2 for £10. This place really is more than a cinema though, it's definitely worth signing up to their mailing list to see all of the different events that they do. It was really sad recently when there was a threat to Richmix and they were campaigning for it not to be closed down. Thankfully they won that one, this really is a heart of the community kind of place and even though I no longer live in Shoreditch I hope I'll be able to come here in many years to come.
