We loved this tour except for the fact we purchased the 1115am tour and they oversold it so we had to wait for the 1145 this threw off our whole day as we were trying to get to the Cubs game which stated around 12. Circumstances aside this tour is not to be missed. Tony our guide was knowledgeable and enthusiastic. We couldn't stop snapping pics and taking it all it. Got a groupon while in Chicago so we went for a tour. A one hour ride with Sara as a funny and well informed tour guide. We saw a lot of the city with Sara filling us in an both architecture and the history of Chicago. Overall well worth but not sure i would have payed full price. read more

We only had a couple hours and have always wanted to take an architectural tour of downtown on boat. The tour was just an hour long and reasonably priced. This was a terrific tour! Boy were we surprised! Our guide Heather was pleasant and very knowledgable. She "made" the tour! She knew more interesting tidbits, from the history to current events and architecture styles, than I thought a person could possibly communicate in 60 minutes! Well worth it! read more

We went on the 11:30 river tour 8/21/13 & it was wonderful! Sarah the tour guide was great ~ intelligent, funny & very friendly ~ the whole staff was very nice. The boat is very clean also. My father was really interested in taking an architectural cruise and I have gone on many with various companies, but Shoreline is by far the best!!! The tours are always full of information combined with humor. However, of all the architectural cruises I have been on our tour guide, Victor, was AWESOME! Extremely knowledgeable and passionate about architecture in Chicago. I appreciated seeing the model photos of upcoming projects. He also shared a unique perspective as he is an architecture student himself. Interesting to get the perspective from an architecture perspective vs. just general citizen. we won tickets a while back and finally decided to take the tour. I am very glad we did! the tour starts near navy pier and then takes you up the chicago river, goes north up the river and then south down the river. i have to admit i am a neophyte when it comes to chicago architecture - i know the sears tower, john hancock, and trump - but i learned a great deal about all the other amazing buildings. our guide victor was AWESOME. he was very knowledgeable, clearly loved architecture, funny and very engaging. his knowledge seemed encyclopedic. not only does he know about existing buildings, he knows about buildings that are just getting started and in the planning phase. he even had excellent quality renderings of what the new buildings will look like! i felt like a real chicagoan who is 'in the know' and can explain about the new buildings going up and how they will transform the chicago skyline! here is a little hint - wolfe point !!! my only suggestion is to make sure you dress assuming it is 10-15 degrees cooler than the actual temperatures. the best viewing is on the top deck right in front of the guide (so you can see his cool renderings). it is open air and can get quite windy on the river! enjoy and you can thank me later! =) read more

This was one of the highlights on a recent trip to Chicago. We did the 75 minute architecture tour. Our guide Javier was charming, funny, and very informative. Some tours tend to give so much information so quickly that it can be overwhelming, but not this tour. We learned a lot about the history of the city and the buildings but Javier always kept it fun and light, yet never cheesy. I would recommend this to anyone visiting the city. The only negative was the price of the photograph they take before you board and then try to sell you when you depart. It was $20 for the three photos and then an additional $29.99 for the digital copy online. That seems excessive. read more

Took the architecture tour last Sunday night and could not have been more impressed. I'm from Chicago, live here currently, but was interested in learning something new about the city. This turned out to be the perfect way to do it! David was a fantastic tour guide. So knowledgeable and funny! I learned so much ranging from Chicago historical facts, to the prevalent architectural styles, to who the architects actually were. Eric was an excellent and hospitable bar tender and Kenya was a very cool captain! Definitely going to try another one of the many tours they offer!! read more

We went on the architectural tour and it definitely exceeded our expectations. Not only was it one of the less expensive boat tours, but it was one of the longest. In 75 minutes, we were able to see all of the historic buildings from the Chicago River. Our tour guide, David, was amazing and was involved with the crowd the whole time. He was witty and hilarious. We even happened to pass by another tour he was doing later that evening & he waved back to us and told his current group of sightseers that we were on his tour earlier. He was seriously the best (5 stars on yelp for you, David!) There was a bar on the bottom part of the boat, and the drinks were insanely cheap by Chicago standards. All in all, it was worth every penny spent. Recommended for anyone visiting downtown Chicago. read more

Wonderful way to see Chicago! Although there were only 5 of us on the tour, due to a rain storm, the crew put on the full show and treated extremely well. Took the architecture tour first day & then the lake tour on the second day. I liked the architecture tour much more than the lake tour. First, I appreciated that it had an actual tour guide. He was really funny & I moved away from a family that was constantly talking so I could listen to him. He was very knowledgeable about all of the buildings i.e when they were built, what style they were, if older what they were originally used for, etc. The lakes tour just had a pre recorded bit, which I found impersonal. read more

They tell you to board 15 minutes early but then you're sitting around waiting for late shows and stragglers and 5 minutes and 10 minutes past departure time it doesn't look like they are in any hurry to leave. I'm sitting in the sun waiting to leave while they are busy selling shitty overpriced liquor and hoping if they wait long enough the boat will fill up. Maybe you should just put on your schedule that departure times are subject to a whim. If you are using the schedule to plan the sights and attractions you want to see, don't count on it. read more

Paul did a phenominal job navigating the Chicago River sharing about the architecture of the area with great humor and class. I have two boys and a wife and they were family friendly as well as cool guys. I was glad we used this service rather than a larger service since the trip seemed more personable with a smaller group. The Architecture Tour has always been one of my favorites! It's a great tour through the Chicago River learning about the different buildings & history of Chicago. Anytime we have family or friends in from out of town & they want to go downtown or to Navy Pier, we always recommend they experience the Architecture Tour because it is that great! Everyone we have taken on this tour has always enjoyed themselves very much. There is also a bar on the boat, which is an added bonus! I did the architecture boat tour 3 times. I loved the explanations and anecdotes everytime. The first time was a gorgeous day, wonderful weather. The second time, we took the fireworks option. The weather was really bad but we still enjoyed it. And the last time, I was with my French parents and they don't speak English at all. On the brochure, they say they have an app for foreign people, that's why I choose Shoreline sightseeing. But when we arrived, the guy told us that it doesn't work anymore and didn't offer us another option, like a French brochure... I was really disappointed, because I had to translate everything and I didn't enjoy the tour myself. We had no apologies for the non working app, they just didn't care... read more
