We were not disappointed- Mike, Mark and the team ran a detailed diagnostic of the problem, talked us through the necessary repairs - new spark plugs and coils- and got to work on it immediately. They were accommodating to our large family, let us get things out of the RV, so we could spend time at the zoo while we waited, and had us back on the road 4-5 hours later. They personally called us a couple of hours later to make sure all was well. Brought my vehicle here for secondary opinion on my BMW. The primary issue was a burning smell which was caused by a bad valve/gasket that was leaking. I also noticed that my RPMs were off. They did their diagnosis. I was really happy they fixed the issue with the smell but even though they replaced the spark plugs, my RPMs are still off. Their cost was actually more than what I would have paid at the dealer but I do prefer to support local mechanics. Last year my car was taken there to have the engine replaced under warranty. First when it was done I went to get it that day with my service dog I am 69 yo it was August and around 100 degrees that day. I got half way there and realized my service dog was getting over heated and so was I so called and asked if I could be picked up and I explained the situation I was rudely told no they did not have the time and it was right about noon lunch time. So after stopping and buying water for my dog I finally get there and was told my service dog could not come in because their dog was in there as I'm looking in and see their dog is in a crate. So I finally get the car home and check it out and there tear tail lights don't work . I take the lens off and the whole bulb housing is melted form a dead short in the wiring. I called the dealer and told them to come get the car I did not want it. I suggest avoiding these clowns at all costs . read more

Mark is great! I was in Topeka this past Memorial Day weekend to attend a wedding when disaster struck. The bride was having wedding day jitters on Friday, and she accidentally backed her SUV into the groom's pickup. She broke her passenger-side tail light; and it had to be replaced immediately that day, or there would be no wedding bliss. After looking him up on Yelp, I called up Mark. The staff at this place is below unprofessional. I dont have experience with their work as ill never bring them any of my vehicles after my experience with their employees. It started at spangled where I was eating breakfast when their employee came in and sat in the booth next to me. We were the only two customers in the whole store. I told the man that its supposed to be every other table per the sign on th e table for social distancing. He told me he didn't give a f#&k. It escalates to us both going outside and he. Ontinued to threaten mr. I told him I was going to call the storeys and report him and he again said he didn't give a f$*k. Eventually we went inside and the staff asked him to move and he did. I called Shoreys and Justin answered and told me they didn't care about any of it and if I wanted to get my ass kicked I could come on down. My son and I broke down 25 miles west of Topeka on route to Colorado from Michigan. We had our '96 Lexus LX450 towed to Shorey after finding good reviews online. We are very happy with all aspects of the service. They found a way to fit us in so we could quickly get back on our road trip. They were able to identify the issue fairly quickly (small, hard to reach coolant system hose had failed) and then find a suitable replacement (despite the lack of availability of exact parts due to the car's age). My van door wouldn't unlock so we couldn't open it. We're new to Topeka so I looked on Yelp and found Shorey's. They found the lock was jammed on the door and were able to loosen it up and get it working. They could have replaced the whole mechanism but stopped when it started working. I was looking for a used car and called the guys at Shorey's on short notice to get a pre-sale inspection for $100. They are all great! Very professional. They got me right in, gave me a great inspection and were very helpful. Didn't buy that car but they gave me an inspection on two other vehicles free of charge which was so awesome because I ended up not buying them because of what was found and didn't have to drop $300 on inspections that day. Also if they find a problem, the $100 goes towards repairs so definitely money well spent to avoid buying the wrong vehicle! Well they did replace my fuel pump and did a fine job, but they broke my hood latch at some point working on my car and never told me about it. Plus the guy who served us in the lobby was acting extremely strange, just staring off into space while we were talking to him. I found Shorey's on Google and decided to try them out after my regular auto service business went under. I found the team of Mark and Mike to be very knowledgeable and easy to work with. While having my Mercury Mountaineer in for service, I mentioned that I had an ongoing problem since I've owned the vehicle (3+ years) in which the Ford Dealership and another reputable auto service shop had previously investigated and couldn't find any problem. In fact, I suspect that they really didn't believe my complaint when I told them that my front end groans when I maneuver around a round-a-bout. I had resigned myself to just live with the little quirk. Shorey's mechanic found the problem right away, blaming it on bad wheel bearings. That did the trick and now I'm not embarrassed to run a round-a-bout with someone else in the passenger seat. read more

Shoreys Automotive 5 stars for not fixing my vehicle... I called Shorey automotive about receiving my Honda Pilot. They were courteous and inviting from the start. I had my vehicle towed there, Shorey's told me they would be on the lookout for it, and the tow company handed over the keys to them without me having to be there. Mike called me with not so good news. With concern and care in his voice he told me my vehicles' situation and the options I had. When I asked him what he thought I should do, he said he didn't feel comfortable guiding my decision. The next step: My engine needed to be tested, a $500+ service to which he explained could result in nothing more than telling me my engine was no good. In that moment, If I had been at the wrong place in Topeka, and unfortunately there are too many wrong places, my vulnerability would have, cost me $500. I didn't know what to say. Even though I knew my vehicle was in bad shape I was still shell shocked at the realization that the cost for me to diagnose and repair my vehicle outweighed it's value. So he continued by reassuring me that he wanted to work on my vehicle, that work, especially that kind of work brings in the $$ for his shop. But more than money, he valued his reputation for providing quality service with integrity and concern for his customers. And moving forward could have very well ended up putting me in a worse situation. They told me my vehicle was safe with them and to take my time on making a decision. I had to go to the shop to get the tag the next day as I was going to look at a vehicle my mom had found to replace my Honda with. I then told them I had decided to not move forward with servicing the vehicle, I asked them for advice on what to do with the vehicle as I had no idea. They proceeded to enlighten me on a service that would end up saving me another tow cost/the burden of having my lifeless vehicle's body sit on my property, AND profit me 460 dollars from my vehicle. And there's more...they told me to not worry about the vehicle being there. To take the next week to call around and figure out what to do with it. It is only now, that I finally am relieved of, my several month long car issue, that I realize how significant Shorey Automotive's role was at fixing my problem, by not fixing my vehicle. The reality of my current financial situation is this. Had I lost even 500 dollars to testing my engine, I'd not have been able to afford the replacement vehicle. My situation easily would have likely spiraled out of control, poor work attendance, job loss, failure to pay rent, eviction. Mike and his team at Shorey's have earned my trust, respect, and admiration. Was driving from SW Colorado to St. Louis, and my Volvo started missing. I called my sis in St. Louis to find me a good repair shop that could look at my car. I pulled off the highway and barely made it to the shop. They were able to squeeze me in, and sure enough found some bad spark plugs, among other things. They gave me a loaner car to go eat lunch, and a few hours later I was back on the road. I am sometimes skeptical of places with so many 5 star reviews, but I promise these guys deserve it. From the mechanic taking the time to talk to me in detail about the car issues, to the guys at the front desk trying to save me some money, but give me the best quality service. Prior to going to Shorey I went to another automotive repair shop to have my suspension checked out. There was a creaking noise that would sound off when I'd go over small bumps at a low speed. The place I had gone to tried to tell me that it was my brakes and I needed to change them immediately. They can make strange noises they said. I wasn't having it and letting them touch anything. I was referred to Shorey by a manager that works for me who has been in Topeka for 25+ years. After seeing yelp reviews I had a little more confidence coming in here than the previous place. Upon arriving I met Mark Quintana. Immediately I noticed how friendly and helpful Mark was. It became apparent that the customer was the #1 priority for Shoreys. It took less than an hour to inspect my car and come up with the verdict. Apparently the strut had a dry spot that was rubbing causing the noise. The mechanic had added some lubricant and also let me know that my brake pads had 20% life left, which was a far cry from what they told me at the other place. What happened next was unprecedented from any experience I've had at a repair shop; they didn't charge me a dime for the time that they spent inspecting or fixing my issue. I at least expected to pay labor costs. I went in understanding I may be spending over $1,000 on new struts (at least a spring?) and brake pads and walked out without paying any fees. That's what I call customer service! This was the best experience I've had at any automotive place. Coming from a business that also has customer service as a #1 priority leaves me very grateful and appreciative. I'll never go anywhere else for any auto repair issues or oil changes! I trust them to inspect my car during an oil change and inform me when there is truly an issue. Mike is the Owner of Shorey's and I, so thankful to have met him last week when I was stranded in Topeka because of car repair work done in Colorado that almost destroyed my Jeep Wrangler. Mike along side of his hard working office admin Megan, went in to high gear making numerous phone calls trying to find the parts I needed and finding them fast. The work was not cheap, but was completely fair. The parts themselves were expensive. His mechanic Tim did the work and they had me back on the highway in less than 5 hours. I took my Lincoln SUV here when I was having suspension problems and had it diagnosed. They were helpful in explaining all the possibilities and I decided to go ahead and replace the vehicle rather than fix it (I had been planning to replace it soon anyhow). I then purchased a new used vehicle and brought it there for an inspection and all they found was a nail in the tire (yay!). To which I was referred to a really awesome tire guy in town that pulled it out and told me it was good to go and didn't go through the sidewall. They gave me a discount on the services since it ended up being a pretty easy job and I brought both cars there within a couple of days. I rarely write reviews, but in this case I am compelled too. On a recent trip through Kansas, my thirteen year old car began to overheat and the thermostat light came on. I pulled over immediately to prevent further damage to the engine. Not being familiar with the area, I used the Yelp app to find a mechanic. Being a Sunday morning, I was sure that I would have little luck. The second number I called was Shorey Automotive. Mike Luellen, the owner, picked up and from his home was able to get the ball in motion to get me a tow. Since it was going to be a while before I truck could get to me, Mike drove out to meet me on the highway to insure everything was alright until the tow truck arrived. Mike treated me like a long time customer even though I was just passing through. This level of service and honesty is extremely rare. They checked it out and sure enough there was no problem just a brand shop misdiagnosing or trying to make some cash... The staff of Shorey Auto was informative, personable, and most importantly kept me from wasting hundreds of dollars on a problem that didn't exist. For those that may want to consider hiring a mechanic that charges $106.11 per HOUR! I would not recommend this shop, they would not even consider negotiating the cost of the labor for installing a water pump and radiator hose. And as a small business, they are exempt from Kansas State income taxes. But I was charged $44.42 in taxes. I do not mind paying taxes on the parts, $176.11 x 0.09% = $15.92. So, for the taxes on labor I was charged 8.9% amounting to $28.50. Where does this tax go, to pay for the owner's federal income taxes? So, this individual is making his customers pay for his federal taxes. I was charged $318.33 for about 3 hours of labor. After speaking with multiple auto shops, they informed me I was taken to the bank. read more

Very Dishonest!!. Mechanics talked about other customers in front of me for over an hour. They also badmouthed other shops. Took in my car to have one issue looked at and came out (literally that day) with 2 new problems that had never shown up in 9 months of owning the car. NOT a coincidence!
