This cart settled on its rightful corner near the beginning of the school year, and ever since I tried my first dish from here, I've been hooked and determined to try all the menu items. It's about time Chicken Kitchen got a Yelp page :) Chicken Kitchen specializes in Asian-style rice platters. Don't be fooled by its name - the food cart has plenty of offerings that range from chicken, to beef, to pork, to tofu, and even eel! Meat-eaters and vegetarians alike can find their niche here. And for a price of $7, the value and quality can't be beaten. The dishes typically come with a side salad and, depending on the dish, onions and mushrooms, and the dishes are easily customizable, with the option to add sriracha for a spicy kick. My personal favorite that I've tried so far is the chicken katsu curry, but I also love the peanut sauce dishes and the chicken with Thai sweet chili sauce! Each dish is made-to-order, ensuring a hot and fresh-off-the-grill experience for the consumer, a one-man-show for the cook. With how long the lunch lines have grown over the past few months, he completes each order relatively quickly. Even with about 5 people in front of me, the longest I've ever waited for my food is probably around 15-20 minutes. I still try to avoid peak times though because of the long lines that can form (for good reason!). The owner is very generous with the portions of rice and meat that he gives, and I always finish my food feeling sufficiently full and satisfied :) There are also your standard drinks (water, soda) for sale, and worthy of noting is the array of aloe drinks which can help to cool down the spiciness of the food if you opt for it. The cart conveniently accepts both cash payment and Venmo. The owner is a really nice guy and recognizes his regulars. I've been eyeing this cart for a while, and it's been exciting seeing Chicken Kitchen grow over the past few months to the point where there's a small crowd huddled around the cart at lunchtime. That evening their menu was completely vegetarian which always makes choosing hard for me. I went with the Sweet Potato Empanada since I thought eating any sort of salad while walking around was more than my coordination could handle. The empanada was nicely cooked, not greasey, and held together great. I added a little hot sauce to mine and it worked well with the delcious sweet potato puree inside. At $3 the price was very fair. I look forward to trying their other 3 Sisters salad (corn, quinoa and beans) soon.

Zea Mays is the exception to the rule. I'm finishing up a meal that on first impression may sound a bit too order-happy: Sweet Potato empanada, Wild Rice salad and cranberry, apple corn muffin. $9.75 later, I feel satisfied, full and airy - and just good. The empanada, which is pretty small for $3, is delightful, the sweet potato mixture that includes maple syrup and nutmeg in a lightly fried crust is delicious, nearly dessert-like and a perfect start to a meal (who doesn't want to start with dessert, anyway?). A wild rice salad for $5 (with summer squash, sesame seed, white bean, corn and brown wild rice atop mixed greens) is perfectly dressed with an amazing mouth-feel and is absolutely delish. The accompanying corn muffin with cranberry and apple (at $1.75) is the perfect complement, also light, savory with the hint of fruit tartness. All in all, a very complete meal, that left me feeling, good, not hefty and with the truck's focus on foods made from Native American ingredients, it isn't surprising. This truck will be here on Monday and Wednesdays for all of September, so make sure to include it in your rotation.
