More Than Karate, This Place Changed My Son's Life…read more I cannot say enough wonderful things about Jeff Hunt Traditional Shotokan Karate. What started as karate became something so much more meaningful for my son and our family. My son went through an incredibly difficult year, and during a time when he could have easily lost his sense of direction, karate gave him structure, discipline, confidence, purpose, and something positive to hold onto. It truly changed his life. As a single Black woman raising my son, I understood how important it was for him to have positive male role models in his life. Jeff stepped into that role in a way I will never forget. He took my son under his wing and became much more than his karate instructor. He became a mentor, a role model, and, in many ways, the father figure my son needed. There were times when Jeff was more present for my son than his own father was, and that means more to me than I could ever put into words. Jeff showed up. He encouraged him. He challenged him. He held him accountable. He believed in him. He taught him that discipline and perseverance could carry him through even the hardest seasons of life. And today, I get to watch that young man who once needed direction celebrate an incredible accomplishment. My son has just graduated as a Doctor of Physical Therapy. I know that his success is the result of many years of hard work, sacrifice, education, and determination, but I will always remember the people who helped shape him along the way. It's been 6 months although I still get nervous like I did for exams in school but I'm glad I stuck to this. The dojo teaches a style of jujutsu that dates back to 1650, an Okinawan style of Karate where the dojo has very close ties to very senior international organizations and recently we have added a traditional style of Okinawan weapons. Everything being taught is very realistic and practical. The training is rigorous but the dojo has a strong sense of community and helping others grow. Under Sensei Williams' leadership, the Seibukan Dojo has become one of the strongest dojos with an incredible reputation. Our outings are usually smooth, positive, and well-coordinated, so for something this important to be handled with such carelessness is extremely upsetting. There was absolutely no accountability, no apology that matched the situation, and not even an offer to make up the class they failed to provide. I am deeply disappointed in the lack of responsibility, communication, and basic courtesy shown to our group. I cannot in good conscience recommend this place to anyone. Their behavior falls far below what one should expect from any business--let alone a martial arts school that claims to teach discipline and respect.
