Don't bother if you aren't willing to push yourself at least a little. All the teachers are friendly and professional, and obviously super skilled. I hope I can stick with it. I'm pretty sure I will. I'm a little older but not that old to get back in shape and stay that way. Right now it's Covid-19 time so we haven't moved on to BJJ and hard core Muay Thai, but as soon as this virus dies I'm looking forward to learning all of it. We do practice the kicks and punches though. I love how I feel after coming out of the place. But you have to push yourself or you will get nothing from what they have to offer. I want to be healthy in my old age, with the ability to fight for me and my family, if I need to defend myself.

I was…read morestruggling to get my kids adjusted to a routine since covid 19 hit and everyone was laid back by working at their own pace. Since I wasn't brought up in an environment where family members engaged in after school activities. I always thought that all of these activities such as boxing, dancing, yoga, martial arts, swimming, gymnastics are for those folks who just don't know where to throw their money. Upon discussing options with my partner. We finally made the call to sign them up to marital arts, so that they'd have some structure and discipline. I was quite surprised to see my kids transformed within a few weeks. They started following instructions around the house. Additionally, I would have to admit that my kids no longer sit at the couch for 20 mins in front of the TV set, when we tell them it's dinner time, shower time, etc... They take action instantly. As far as sensei goes. He may not be for everyone. However, he'd definitely someone down my alley. I like the fact that he's tough with his students and walks around the room to do adjustments in postures or moves that he's teaching during the lesson. He explains why your technique would fail you during a fight. He's one of those that will tell you how it is. Which I love! If someone doesn't pay attention or becomes disruptive, he has different variations of discipline techniques that he applies throughout the session to keep the flow going, which doesn't impede with the class. I believe this is a huge investment in your kids! They're more confident, determined, focused and most of all, I believe they will use their knowledge from this sensei down the line during the course of their life.

Every class is different. No two are really the same. Even when I would attend two on the same day, what would be worked on would vary. I got to meet some really great people during my time there. You bond over your time on the mats together and there is a connection that is felt between all (at least that is my take on it). Even though it went unstated; it was there. Even between those whom I hadn't really interacted much with. . . The common thread of Sitan gym had woven us all together. Aziz has to have some of the best energy I've encountered. He is always quick to smile and slow to frown. He would bring his daughters in often (and his wife trains in the classes as well). This really made for a beautiful feeling of family that spread outwards. I learned so much when I was there. Got to train with those who had never thrown a punch before - all the way up to true fighters. All the while watching my own abilities increase exponentially. . . When I started there I was in the former group, with little martial arts experience before. By the time I was about to move from the area I had quite a few others ask me if I was thinking of fighting myself.

But we’re more than just a gym. We’re a community of passionate individuals committed to growth, discipline, and supporting each other both on and off the mats. In Thai, “Sanuk” is a deeply rooted cultural concept that means "fun" or "enjoyment." But it goes beyond just having a good time , it reflects a way of life. To Thai people, doing something sanuk means doing it in a way that is joyful, engaging, and worthwhile. It implies that life should be lived with a sense of pleasure, laughter, and positive energy, even when doing everyday tasks or hard work. A job, a conversation, or even a challenge should ideally be sanuk , fun, lively, and infused with a good spirit. It’s not just about personal enjoyment either - sanuk often involves others, encouraging social connection, good humor, and shared experiences. It’s a value that helps shape Thailand’s famously warm and welcoming culture. Sanuk Martial Arts is place where people don’t just train hard, they do it with joy, camaraderie, and a love for the art.
