Place is AWESOME!!! I totally forgot about this location for events too! Shoots!…read more They can hold over 300 people sitting side by side for a screening, move or even music or dancing. But they can also rearrange a sitting arrangement so there is open areas for people to stand and mingle. Then they have the lounge area. That's our favorite! The couches are enormous and the set up is immaculate! They had floor walkers and escorts who helped everyone find seats or direct them where to go. That's as a good thing. Usually m, people have to figure out what to do or where to go at these events, no?! Lol. But this was a once in a lifetime experience for us and it was AWESOME! Of course my son didn't want to watch himself on screen, but, we all loved it! He did well. In fact, they ALL DID! Every single film was done excellent! I wish we could've stayed for the whole thing, but unfortunately we had to leave early because the kids had school the next day. So we left around 9pm. Maybe next time we'll have a better chance in watching our son on screen again. Soon! For sure... Ok that's about it! OH! And the restroom! Oh my... it's an experience to have. Lol! It's amazing! One door for ALL to enter. Then as you pass the main door, your in the lobby of the restroom. Like they have in fancy theaters or auditoriums or hotels. Yup! Only difference is, there's no seats or chairs to lounge on. There's a long marble counter top with about 5 individual sinks. Each side accessible for anyone to wash up. Mirrors along the wall. And then the MENS DOOR for their restroom is on the left and the WOMENS on the right. Ever the bathroom stalls were cozy. Toilet seats were nice and comfy, not those public restroom toilets. But the hotel kine. Just without the extra fancy buttons. It's definitely somewhere anyone should go and see. Especially when they host an event there. OK NOW IM DONE! Thanks for reading! Have a good one! A hui hou MALAMA PONO and

This Courtyard is like a chameleon!…read more It becomes an outdoor ice Skating Rink in the Hawaiian "winter"; changes into a open-air movie theater on the second Thursday of the month when the weather is warmer; and converts to a concert venue on the third Wednesday of the month during the spring, summer, and autumn. At other times, people enjoy this space as a Yoga studio/art gallery. Ward Village makes really good use of this area. Chairs are set up for the movies and concerts. A gigantic tent is erected when the weather is suggesting rain. Otherwise, the audience enjoys gentle trade winds, silhouettes of palm trees, and views of fluffy clouds, gorgeous sunsets, and sometimes... the silvery moon. There's a water feature on the far side of the courtyard, so if the sound bothers you, sit nearer to the entrance and away from the wall. Most events are free - just look for the community events online and print out your tickets! If the event you're interested in is a Brunch, the fee will be posted an you'll get a chance to try specialties of local restaurants, using a ticket system. There's ample free parking nearby and a beautiful, clean restroom on the ground floor of the "IBM Building". The co-ed sinks are a great idea for efficient use of this facility! Check it out!!!

The seats come with tables, so you can enjoy food while watching your movie, which I thought was a great touch. I came here to watch Devil Wears Prada with one other person, and I was honestly a little surprised by the ticket prices. For just the two of us, it came out to about $40, with each ticket being around $19.50, which felt a bit pricey. Other than that, my experience was decent overall. I didn't get the chance to try their food this visit, which was something I was looking forward to, so I'd definitely like to give this place another chance and experience the full dine-in option next time.

When I went to speak to someone about it, I was told that that's how the movie was made in that format because it's a murder mystery. It's still a mystery to me who is getting killed. But when I watch the trailer it showed everything people's heads included and you could tell that it was zoomed in because the the screen was not clear. The movie has a good plot and I probably would have enjoyed it had they fixed the way we were watching it but nobody would budge to fix it. Staff at the theater could only tell me. I was told to let people know that's just how the directors filmed it. Unfortunately I walked out of the movie before it was even done. Maybe halfway through. I've attached the trailer link so you can see what it should look like, but we couldn't even see people's heads. Even though it was a top secret movie and we only paid $5 a person to watch it, it would have been great if somebody actually went to fix the screen format. "Crazy Rich Asians"…read more I saw this fantastic movie four times prior to this! I went with different friends in Kaneohe, Honolulu, and in California! Each time was enjoyable and thought provoking! So...when my friend, Amy M., suggested that we see this movie AGAIN, I said "yes" right away! I had been to this venue several times before this. I knew the drill... go early and park for free across the street at South Shore Market in Ward Village, then stand in line outside the gate to the IBM Courtyard. The gate is supposed to open at 6pm. That's why we aimed to be there at 5pm because the seating is first come, first served, except for the HIFF (Hawaii International Film Festival) members. They get a special line and enter first. The walk-in people get in last. There are monitors who decide when to start the next row of people when the line gets too long. The monitors also check tickets and distribute wristbands. This Valentine's Day evening was rainy, so a tent was in place. There was also a table filled with bags of complimentary popcorn for each guest! The comfy sofas in the front were reserved for people who won VIP Seats via an Instagram contest! We were early enough to sit on the slightly padded wooden folding chairs in the first row on the right side. The middle section's front row had reserved seating for the HIFF Members. The movie started around 7pm when it was dark enough. Overall, this is a unique venue because of the cool Hawaiian trade winds. In the summer, when it's not raining, there's no tent - which allows a beautiful view of the sunset colors in the sky! The fancy restroom is convenient. Food trucks and restaurants are nearby so you can bring your food in and enjoy a totally wonderful experience!

Some people even brought umbrellas (worth it during the rainy months). Bring your own snacks and beverages! Check-in starts at 6pm. The actual showing begins at 7pm. When you get your bracelet upon checking in, get yourself a seat then you can go in and out (grab a poke bowl from Paina!) Seats start filling EARLY, at least for Free Solo (maybe it was particularly popular?). If you have a big group, get there around 6pm.

From the moment you pass through the doors, you're surrounded by a blend of old-world elegance and Hawaiian warmth. Built in 1922, the theatre has hosted everything from silent films and Broadway plays to concerts and Hula performances. Today it seats about 1,400 guests, offering an intimate experience where every seat feels close to the stage. The acoustics are excellent, the seats are comfortable, and the staff and volunteers are friendly, welcoming, and genuinely helpful. There's also a small bar and lounge with high-tops, perfect for enjoying a drink and conversation before the show. Inside the theater, you see tall, fluted Corinthian-style columns that are richly detailed. The curved arch overhead is decorated with mosaic-style tiles in warm tones, and I absolutely LOVE the lush deep red velvet curtains that frame the stage. They add so much warmth and elegance. Having attended many shows throughout the years, I've always been mesmerized by the mural above the stage and decided to do some Googling while waiting for the show to begin. I learned it's Lionel Walden's Glorification of the Drama. The painting depicts a grand procession of mythic figures -- a golden-robed muse in her chariot, attendants, musicians, a lion handler -- all celebrating the power of theater. The central figure, often interpreted as the Personification of Drama, leads the way. Knowing that part of the mural was once lost to water damage and later painstakingly restored makes it even more meaningful. Parking is easy at the municipal garage on Bethel Street, just a block away. The short walk is now well-lit, a welcome improvement from years past when it was dark and sketchy. Entertaining audiences for over 100 years, the Hawaii Theater is a recognized as a National Historic Landmark. Attending a show here, you're not just watching a performance, you're also living and breathing a beautiful piece of Hawaii's historic culture.

Security did a nice job checking bags, and held my dinner leftovers on an entrance table, as food isn't allowed in the historic theater. It was easily retrieved after the show on the way out;) Restrooms were bright and lines moved quickly. Hot tip: fellow guests said that their $20 drinking glass in a safety cup is refillable at a discount on your next visit (they were enjoying wine, another had pineapple juice). If non alcoholic, that refill is free. Hmmm, we might have to try that next visit!
