The conveyor belt concept is kinda neat, but Shuang Shuang is ridiculously overpriced IMO. The quality of the food is nothing special either. There are definitely better hotpot options in Chinatown. Stick to AYCE to get the best bang for your buck.

This photo show the empty seat for us , but the server gave it away when 2 girls walk in after he told us we will be sitting there.

To be clear this review is for their customer service. We didn't end up eating here. We walked in on a Sunday evening around 830pm. The place was pretty full but there were 2 empty seats that someone was cleaning. We were greeted by a male server and he told us as soon as his colleague clean up the 2 seats we will be be seated right away. He instructed us to sit on the side and wait. After a minute the table was ready and we thought we will be seated but 2 new female customers came in and he just instruct them to take our seats without telling us anything. He just gave away the seats he told us they we were suppose to sit at. Right after he seated them he saw me with a puzzled look and he came to tell me they had reservations so he gave they got our seats. I didn't say anything but it didn't make sense at all, by then the place was full we would have to wait until someone leave to be seated so we just got up and leave. I feel this is a sample of very poor customer service by the sever. He didn't tell me they had to reserve table for reservation in the first place and even if they did they should give us the seats that was already available when we were there. I will never come back to this place again worst experience ever!!!

Moo krata in the upstairs section

Went there for the Moo Krata, which wasn't clear that you had to go upstairs for it. So after being moved there a couple of times, my friend and I were finally sat at a table with the BBQ/hot pot combo. Chose the blackbird broth and the pork menu. The broth was kinda bland. One of the porks had a very tasty marinade (the others just seemed to be plain). Pretty decent price and pretty good meal.

I applaud Shuang Shuang for attempting to be innovative - individual hotpot where each diner gets their own pot of broth and they can select ingredients off a conveyor belt to cook It's fun for sure but I couldn't help missing the communal fun of hotpot with friends. I suppose it would suit introverts or germophobes to a tee! I enjoyed my starter of crispy pig ears - like pink crackling The black chicken broth was more subtle than I had expected but was fine To be honest, boiled food will never be the tastiest, hence the sauces. I didn't need the advertised sauce sommelier. House blends were fine I think their main problem may be on price. Just a stone's throw away are hotpot places which offer all you eat deals for £20 a head. Even with the 30% soft opening discount, my bill came to close to £25

A super fun hot-pot dining experience! After reading some mixed reviews my husband and I decided to give this place a try for ourselves. We came on a Saturday night at around 7:30 and luckily for us it was surprisingly quiet, on other evenings we have walked by and there has been a 30-40 minute wait. We were seated, ordered some drinks and asked what broth we would like- as we couldn't decide the waitress kindly brought us all of them to sample! I enjoyed the black bird and my husband opted for the lamb tonic. We enjoyed a Taiwanese beer whilst waiting for our food to arrive. We decided to get the 'create your own' dipping sauce, where they bring out a selection of ingredients, including spring onions, sesame butter and chillies. Our broths came and were soon boiling. Then it was time to decide which dishes to grab off of the conveyer belt! Our favourites were the beef, fish cubes and the udon noodles. The fish paste in a little piping bag was an interesting idea (that you squeeze into the broth). I'd skip this next time as it didn't have much flavour! Overall I really enjoyed the dining experience. The service was quick and friendly ,whilst the restaurant is clean and modern. It was at the pricier end of the spectrum for Chinese eats in the area, but I would definitely come back again.

We both knew what was to be feared most as we walked towards this new restaurant, Shuang Shuang. It was not just merely new. This restaurant has brought a new concept to town with their hotpot, Chinese style. It is the individual hotpot with choices of ingredients for broth served on a conveyor belt that sounds attractive. Plus, the weather had been extremely windy and it was raining. A bowl of steaming hot broth was quite enticing. Queueing was really not what we were looking forward to. Fingers crossed, praying silently we walked towards Shuang Shuang, we were grinning when found we could be seated in just ten minutes. In Shuang Shuang, the finish was modern, clean and minimal. That was good, but if you were seated along the outer part of the conveyor belt, you could constantly feel the draft and even with the hot broth, we felt cold. It would be much better being inside the circle. Both Naomi and I had done this hotpot style many many times but still found ourselves listening quite intently to the waiter's explanation on how to do it. And, in case you miss it, the menu has a pictorial instructions back up. The pot sits on an induction cooker, the ingredients come along on the conveyor belt and you pick your own ingredients and cook them. DIY. Shuang Shuang is great for a meet up if there is just the both of you. Jasmine tea egg and nest £3.50 - the colour of the egg yolk was beautiful but the jasmine floral scent tea egg was slightly strange. scallop with prawn fritter in mala oil £5.50 - has the bouncy texture of a squishy fishball. It was nice and the mala oil had a good chilli spice to that. pig's ears with xinjiang spice £4.50 - deliciously crunchy and the cumin spice was quite fragrant. Overall, I find the snack items more appealing and tempting than their hotpot ingredients. These are not on the conveyor belt and you have to order them. Portion sizes were small and we were both astonished when the dessert was served. £4.50??? Really? A golf ball size of soy milk ice-cream with sprinkles of candied ginger. It was nice with a very mild "tau fu fah" taste. But, £4.50!? I did feel the space was similar to being in an aeroplane with the plastic bib, a wet wipe towel, hotpot tableware and digital controls on the table. Shuang Shuang was fun, and I would just keep it to that. Soft launch 30% off is only until this Sunday, 27th December 2015.

I love the concept and its fun with friends. The broth was ok but not amazing and the items are good but not revolutionary. I did like the thin slices of pork belly. Overall its just fun but not dying to go back there you can get better hot pot somewhere else but Its worth going at least once for the novelty of it

Cool experience. Nice clean modern atmosphere. Would recommend the Tom Yum broth for flavour... Black bird broth lacked flavour. Foods very fresh and variety of vegetables too! Some dishes were bland so pick a side dip. Also the teas are served in a large glass and refilled. In summary go here if you want to try something new.

    Moving belt hotpot
    Dennis W.

Service with a big smile. Moving belt style hotpot. Good options on broth and dip sauces. Limited choices on the belt but all the important food groups are included. If you want something else that is not on the belt just ask the friendly staff and you will get it very promptly. Their ICE CREAM is the best! Soy ice cream with sweet ginger, would go back just for the dessert.

Everything was so delicious, and there were several other dishes I would have loved to have tried. I wish I had taken pictures of more dishes, but they all looked so good that we all just dug right in! Our server highly recommended the shrimp bean curd dish, and I am so glad she did. That's not something I would've ordered on my own, but my husband & I agreed it was our favorite dish of the night. My daughter's favorite (and my 2nd favorite) was the wagyu beef puff. I also loved everything in the steamed dim sum platter. The only thing that was mildly disappointing was the softshell crab. Softshell crab is usually one of my favorites, but it was just sort of bland. But overall the food was amazing. I just wanted to keep trying more & more things, even though I was stuffed! And the service was incredible -- really could not have been better. As a wine nerd, I have to say I don't love their wine service. You can't order a full bottle, only 500 ml or less, which means you're never presented with the bottle, so (in theory) you're never really sure you're actually getting what you ordered or getting a bottle that wasn't opened days ago. That being said, I have no doubt that the wines we were served were correct and relatively freshly opened, but I still would've appreciated proper bottle service. (On the other hand, being forced to buy only 500 ml at a time meant we could try two wines instead of sticking with just one bottle.) The ambiance was lovely -- spacious, sleek, classy, modern, with gigantic aquariums. This restaurant will be at the top of my list to revisit next time I'm in London!

I looked on reddit and a few people gave some positive reviews on this restaurant. I guided my brother here and we were immediately impressed with the service and how comfortable the environment was when we entered. We have some local favorite items from home that we tried out here, and this restaurant does each of these pieces exceptionally well. Highly recommend to anyone who is in the area looking for a restaurant in Chinatown. The cuisine is southeast Asian and each of these items on the menu tell you where the item is from. There are also pictures on the menu, but they do not do the food justice as the food came out so well prepared and complimented our day in London. I will be sharing with anyone who comes!

Duck & Rice, Soho, London, England -- April 5…read more Our family of four with two kids ages 9 and 10 made our way to Duck & Rice after walking through the Chinatown area, which was absolutely packed and fun to explore, and we were looking for something lively with shareable dishes, and the overall experience felt energetic with some real highs and a few misses. Arrival and First Impressions The space has a strong personality with a mix of pub and restaurant energy and it felt busy from the moment we walked in, matching the chaos outside in Soho, but still relatively well controlled with a steady flow of service and a constant buzz that made it feel like a place always in motion. The Highlights Food came out quickly and leaned into that comfort style Chinese menu with a mix of dumplings and larger plates, and the soup dumplings were the clear favorite for the table with both kids fully on board which is always a win. The crispy duck with pancakes was also solid and more in line with what we expected, and overall the variety kept everyone engaged even if the kids stayed mostly in their comfort zone. The Challenges Portion sizes were a bit tricky for a family of four with several dishes coming in sets of three which meant ordering extra just to share evenly, and a few items missed the mark including shu mai that felt a bit dry. The duck and rice being served closer to room temperature was intentional to keep it tender but still felt a little off from expectation, and surprisingly there were no chili oil or similar condiments for the dumplings which would have helped quite a bit. The overall noise and energy level can also be a lot after a full day out. Final Thoughts This is a lively spot that fits right into the Soho and Chinatown energy and works well if you are looking for a fun fast paced meal with shareable dishes, but it is not without a few quirks and inconsistencies. We are glad we tried it and there are definitely things worth ordering, but with so many strong options nearby we would probably explore elsewhere next time, making it worth it for the experience but not a must return.
