We enjoyed this restaurant in Chinatown in London! The food was very delicious! But they won't let you pay with credit card but cash only!

the flavours of our entrees were better than the appetisers, and portions are BIG double big!! we will probably share an entree next time. freshness and quality is a gamble with a large menu. for us its just ok when we are in the area :p

Great place for a quick bite but don't expect any customer service. This place is ruthless for quick and rude service. The food is pretty standard, nothing to really rave about but if you're craving won ton noodles, it certainly does the trick. We ordered won ton noodles and it came in a huge bowl, probably enough to share between 2 ppl. Next we order the crispy duck, with spring onions, cucumber, sweet hoisin sauce and of course pancake to wrap all the ingredients to eat - it was delicious and great for sharing. Prawns on toast was freshly fried, as it came piping hot. This is my favorite dish and it can be a little greasy but it was still good! Beware, for takeouts and containers for leftovers, you get charged 50p each. Might be better to bring your own containers if possible.

If you are looking for a place that's going to be extremely friendly this isn't your place . If you want decent Chinese food this is your place . I would have given this place 4 stars but my prawns still had poop in it which is unacceptable. The noodles were delicious needed some more seasoning though . They only take cash . It's a cool place for a quick meal . (The bathrooms were gross )

Man, look at all these people rating this place on it's service. Clearly, you ain't never been to a real Chinese restaurant lol. Let's get one thing straight, you don't go to a Chinese restaurant like this for service, or any of them for that matter. You don't go a nice atmosphere where you'll spend a lot of time, you don't go because it's nice. You go for the damn FOOD. So everyone giving this place less than 3 stars, they don't care! lol Anywho, onto the food, rant over. Of course you know my main dish and one of my favorite Canto dishes is Chow Fun... I had to get that as well as the won ton soup, because it's good for clearing the system, because alcohol. It was actually VERY VERY VERY good and tasted the same as it does in the states! same with the won ton soup. Although I'd have to say the won ton soup broth wasn't as clear, I'm guessing they didn't separate it from the water. Def a place if you want cantonese chinese food and you're from the states, it'll remind you of home. 5 star. fa sho.

Wong Kei's in an institution in London's Chinatown. Going back at least 25 years from when I'd first heard of it, I really went out of curiosity for the service. A lady mentioned how the staff were quite brisk and would throw the food at you. I just had to see this and when I visited, discovered two things: 1) Wong Kei's staff reminded me of San Francisco's Chinatown and just were very fast and efficient; and 2) the food is absolutely amazing! That was it and I have continue to go back since to get my "fix." Whether walking over from my office on Conduit Street, cycling into London from Surrey, or now more sporadically coming in from Winchester, Wong Kei's settles a craving. The restaurant is always packed, which says a lot in itself, and the team now know me, so are on a friendly basis. The Singapore fried noodles and wonton noodle soup are my favourites, though in the words of another customer long ago, "Order anything, it'll be delicious no matter what it is." When in London's West End near Piccadilly, SoHo or Leicester Square and craving Chinese food, Wong Kei's is definitely worth a stop.

Great freshly cooked rice noodles went with a friend I hadn't see in a longtime so with the good food we had a good time and was happy with the service

Very rude Chinese man, don't eat here

This restaurant is rude. Don't bother to eat there. This Chinese guy is so quacky and loud. When we brought up a menu and pricing problem to him, he just yelled. We had to tell him to shut up(sorry because we had no choice, but he deserved that) We also had to tell him to get some education. Unless he is fired or there's a change of management, this restaurant should be out of business.

October 2018: Ordered Sichuan Prawns and Singapore Rice Noodles. Both were amazing. Cash Only establishment. March 2019: We had shrimp fried rice, fried oysters, fried prawns in chili & salt and fried shredded beef in chili. All were delicious and fresh. Quick & friendly service. Main dining room was full on a Friday night so we got seated in downstairs dining room. Great Chinese food.

Inside, first floor. We were seated on the second floor though. REALLY hot as well. Not comfortable.

Wow! This is a crazy experience. Not a good one. I'm pretty tolerant of differences, I lived in Asia but if I'm going to put up with being seated at a table with a bunch of strangers, rushed into my order and shouted at, then the food better be freaking good. It was not. I got the Curry Chicken and my wife the Chili Beef. Her's was fried to burned and mine was okay but nothing special. We also got hot and sour soup. Worst I've ever had. Bland - neither hot nor sour. I would say, skip this place. I had two Chinese's guys at my table that barely speak English and they felt the same way... yikes!

I first went to Wong Kei when I was an undergraduate in the UK in the early 2000s. The food then was cheap, super delicious and the service, truly appalling. It wasn't uncommon to be greeted by scowls from waitstaff after they unceremoniously plonked down a heaping plate of food on your table and then be promptly asked to leave once we finished our meal. But the food was always tip-top and the prices cheap, which kept us going back. I returned to Wong Kei 20-years-and-several-Michelin-starred-dining-experiences later, not knowing what to expect, and slightly fearful that my old haunt would be nothing like the memory in my youth. I sat down slightly nervous and ordered a plate of beef brisket with rice. The waiter whipped out a second-long half-smile, which caught me totally off-guard, and because of my confusion, reciprocated his smile with a bewilderingly contorted expression. To hide my embarrassment I looked down and retreated into my food. My first mouthful was simply marvelous. The beef was tender and flavourful. The rice was fluffy and the vegetables crisp. If I was blindfolded, I would truly not have been able to distinguish my meal from those I've had on the streets of Hong Kong. I finished every last morsel on my plate and sat down to slowly sip my tea (which was free), and to my amazement, was neither asked to leave nor given disapproving stares. After 10 minutes, a waiter came by and hastily grabbed my tea pot. I thought, at last, a signal that I had outstayed my welcome. A minute later she came back with a fresh pot of jasmine tea. I paid £6.50 ($8 usd) for a scrumptious meal, delighted that so many years on, the food was just as amazing. I walked out a satisfied customer and thrilled to have had witnessed a rare smile from a Wong Kei waiter - my first sighting in 20 years.

Pretty garbage food. Not even cheap and service was bad not sure why there are so many people who go here to try. Everything tasted so bad. Very not recommended and would never step back again. Service bad, place was not clean and everything was just really bad. Not even recommended to try not worth your time.

Duck & Rice, Soho, London, England -- April 5…read more Our family of four with two kids ages 9 and 10 made our way to Duck & Rice after walking through the Chinatown area, which was absolutely packed and fun to explore, and we were looking for something lively with shareable dishes, and the overall experience felt energetic with some real highs and a few misses. Arrival and First Impressions The space has a strong personality with a mix of pub and restaurant energy and it felt busy from the moment we walked in, matching the chaos outside in Soho, but still relatively well controlled with a steady flow of service and a constant buzz that made it feel like a place always in motion. The Highlights Food came out quickly and leaned into that comfort style Chinese menu with a mix of dumplings and larger plates, and the soup dumplings were the clear favorite for the table with both kids fully on board which is always a win. The crispy duck with pancakes was also solid and more in line with what we expected, and overall the variety kept everyone engaged even if the kids stayed mostly in their comfort zone. The Challenges Portion sizes were a bit tricky for a family of four with several dishes coming in sets of three which meant ordering extra just to share evenly, and a few items missed the mark including shu mai that felt a bit dry. The duck and rice being served closer to room temperature was intentional to keep it tender but still felt a little off from expectation, and surprisingly there were no chili oil or similar condiments for the dumplings which would have helped quite a bit. The overall noise and energy level can also be a lot after a full day out. Final Thoughts This is a lively spot that fits right into the Soho and Chinatown energy and works well if you are looking for a fun fast paced meal with shareable dishes, but it is not without a few quirks and inconsistencies. We are glad we tried it and there are definitely things worth ordering, but with so many strong options nearby we would probably explore elsewhere next time, making it worth it for the experience but not a must return.

Individual dishes are ordered via iPad. We got a large selection of meats, veggies, noodles, and some more unusual delicacies like beef cheek and colon(?). There are self serve stations for sauce making, and some small sides and desserts/fruits. I LOVED the seaweed salad there and got three helpings... not sure what goes into this but it was so yummy. Tissue boxes at the table are a nice touch for runny noses with the spicy broth! There's a bit of a show that comes with ordered hand pulled noodles! A staffer comes out and pulls and spins and dances with the noodles table side. I think they also sing for birthdays (seemed to be a couple of those around us).
