He said to call him to confirm timing details a few days before the date of the trip. -Text and email: 4-8-2018 7:07AM Hi Russell. We are trying to reach you to confirm 3 sit in kayaks, Turner River put in shuttle. You asked us to call today to confirm. Reservation under name "XXXX". I'll try your email too. Thanks. We got no response to text or email. Voice mail box was "full". -Called Russell: 4-9-2108 8:13AM His immediate text reply: "I'll call you right back". -He never called back or responded to a long chain of increasingly desperate texts and email, and his voice mail in box was "full" so we could not leave a message. We watched our 3000 mile flights and plan to go kayaking become toast. We asked around about Russell the next day, and folks said he was not out of Everglades City but Naples, which is a long drive. They thought his business was a "one-man show", which we took to mean he was trying to do it all. My guess is that he got a more lucrative job and decided ours was not worth it. The real issue? There may have been valid reasons Russell could not keep his word, but he never called us back and cut us loose to try to find alternate plans while we still had time. We waited until too late because we were sure he would "call us right back". We give Everglades Kayak Company and Russell zero stars for not having good business practices or being honest with a customer. If you are flying in from far away and banking on this company, beware. Note: We found an alternate kayak supplier the next day, but had to go on a group tour, not our small, meandering, self-guided plan at all. What should have been pleasant was too stressful!

We discussed my original plan, and unfortunately I had not planned well enough. Dylan helped me adjust my plan, and guide me to a better, more attainable set of camping sites. With his knowledge and advice, I ended up leaving one day later, BUT it was definitely for the best. Dylan's knowledge is key! Always take his advice! By taking Dylan's tips and advice, I had an amazing kayak camping experience - I paddled out to Tiger key, during the calm part of my trip, and then hunkered down on Tiger for a few days - which Dylan had warned there would be a storm. With his advice, I took a book and thoroughly enjoyed myself. I paddled around some of the other Keys and headed back on a safer day. My Eco tour was with Alec, and he was an excellent tour guide - he took us through the mangroves and we saw some alligators, water fowl, and ospreys- super dope! He gave us some really interesting history about Big Cypress and the Everglades, and was all around just awesome. Finally, shoutout to Matt, who was super helpful setting up my kayak rental and getting me paddles. I have done numerous boat trips in my lifetime, so I had something to compare this to. We took the…read more3.5 hour morning trip, which went around the islands and stopped at one for a brief walk. The boat was comfortable, and the ride was smooth. We were at low tide, so our captain had to be very cautious where he went. The mangroves are pretty, but once you saw 10 islands, it was probably enough. We got to see a few dolphins, and he got two of them to surf the boat waves which was fun. Our little stroll on the one island turned up a few interesting shells. Overall, I think the trip is too long as you just keep seeing the same things, island after island. There weren't really as many birds as I anticipated.

He was very accommodating in finding a day and time that worked for us, very hospitable, and had a great personality! Charlie texts you several times before the boat day, to make sure directions on everything are clear- I really appreciated receiving the EXACT directions with pictures and precise details. His "Tiki Tiki" boat was brand new and beautiful, and I enjoyed bringing our own drinks and snacks on the boat (he parks next to a food boat, if you'd rather buy food). The sandbar was a lot of fun, and Charlie brought many toys for us to play with on the water (kayak, rafts, beer pong table, noodles, etc). Definitely enough equipment to keep you busy for the day! The sandbar was a bit busy (even on a weekday), but he tried to find us an area where no one was blaring their music, so we could play our own. Charlie took several pictures and videos for us that he emailed us later in the week. I really enjoyed having all those, in addition to mine. Only constructive criticism I have, would be that I booked a half day "tour", and had mentioned going snorkeling and doing the catch/release of baby sharks. I was under the impression that was all set up as the plan for the day. However, we went straight to the sandbar and spent the day there; little bit of a letdown as we wanted to do other activities as well- other than that it was a great day! The water was clear, we saw some fish (and lots of dogs), and the weather was perfect- we had a great day with Captain Charlie!
