I hired this attorney about two years ago, i hire him to process my green card...my case got denied back then because uscis dictated that I abandoned my case which was ludicrous... when contacted then Bernard Sidman to see what was going on he didn't had a clue were my case was at or what was going on... his only suggestion was to pay him more $$$ to do it again: I didn't want to review him until I would get my green card... but throughout another attorney... This guy never had a clue on how my case was going or how it stood on uscis.... I hired a different attorney whom processed my case and always was on top of it... since the get go until the end... I received my status adjustment approved and got my green card... not thanks to Bernard Sidman but someone else very profesional... Would NOT recommend this attorney ever... Get second and third opinions when it comes to hiring an attorney... but this guy definitely won't be my first choice nor last... To the response of this attorney to my review... Allow me to clarify that I didn't have multiple aliases as he stated... I had a ticket violation under my alias name which I had forgotten to take care... Nothing major... I paid an criminal attorney to bring it up to dock and clear my name as I was directed by my current immigration attorney... again something that could have been taken care if I was perhaps referred to do a DOJ background check since the get go as I did with current attorney... which in my case with Bernard Sidman was never done.... He gets the job done. I was referred to Bernard Sidman through some fellow Brits living in Los Angeles. I had to remove the conditions on my Green Card. My situation was unique as I was going through a divorce BEFORE the two years was up. Upon my understanding that I needed to consult with a lawyer, I met with Bernard at his Encino office (first consultation free), and explained my situation and what happened. He was very sympathetic to my situation and could tellI was upset and stressed. He straight away told me he could help me, and told me exactly what I had to do. My application was submitted in June, and I can proudly say that I was accepted for my 10 year "unconditional" Green Card on 12/10/14. I am absolutely delighted with the outcome. All in all Bernard done a good job. He knows his stuff, and has good staff on hand to answer any questions and act as another point of contact. However, if you want someone to hold your hand through the process then Bernard is not your man. He comes across as extremely busy, but at the same time very assured. The moment he told me that he could get me my green card, I never doubted it. I felt relieved to have a lawyer that actually cared about the success and not just the money. His value was good, and he let me set up a payment plan with him. His response was not always immediate, but then again I think the same goes for the rest of Los Angeles. Worst lawyer ever! The facts are here: Sidman failed to gain a Green Card for me on two occasions. Sidman also failed to mail me J1 application documents for my London trip to the US Embassy - to this day, he has never sent them to me. Intentionally withholding documents from a client is illegal. Without these, a US Embassy interview would be void & a waste of travel time & money ($1000 & 5000miles). He also charged me $5000 for the J1 visa application where I later found out the average rate is $1200. My father had to mail these documents to me from the UK yet I was immediately rejected by the Embassy regardless. I was overqualified & Sidman should have known this. I retained a new, competent lawyer (Eugene Wong) who, with just one education document requested, submitted this through Sua Sponte Motion and my green card was successful within 3 weeks. This was a single, one page critical qualification document that Sidman failed to request from me to submit. He ignored my repeat suggestions to include this information. He had submitted similar evidence about the same qualifications prior, to the INS, so knew full well of the qualification's merits. Eugene contacted Sidman so I could recoup legal fees - Sidman never responded. Eugene stated in writing Sidman had shown 'intention or reckless violation above and beyond negligence.' Eugene also said Sidman could be 'subject to a 212(e) bar for 2 years, bordering on fraud. Any reasonable immigration attorney would advise the client of such a monumental change in their original immigration plan.' Four well established lawyers also agreed that Sidman was repeatedly negligent. From this, I filed Arbitration against Sidman with the Los Angeles County Bar Association and I won. The Arbitrator confirmed that Sidman failed to provide a full retainer agreement on THREE jobs hired to do (2 Green Cards & J1 visa). Sidman admitted, in Arbitration under oath, he had never heard of a Sua Sponte Motion. Sidman had to reimburse me substantial legal fees as a result of Arbitration yet has failed to obey the law and not paid up by the deadline demanded, even though I've notified him and his office twice. I have filed with State Bar of California for an 'Enforcement of An Arbitration Award' where the State Bar can now seize his bank (bank levy/lien) and suspend his license. The Enforcement can also be made public. After writing this review, Sidman did pay me what was owed so the State Bar has been notified and the case is now closed. All the above shows a true factual picture of a lawyer who is repeatedly negligent, refuses to pay up and has a tarnished & insignificantly below-par reputation. Avoid him. read more
