The best bank in town, with regards to friendliness, efficiency, and customer service. We have an account SFCU and one at another bank. I much prefer going into this credit union. They are always friendly while being conscious of the security of my account. When I had questions about a loan that did not even originate from their bank, the woman I spoke with was extremely helpful in explaining what my options were based on her knowledge of those types of loans. read more

Like many things, once a great place, but over the past couple years, going downhill fast. Customer service contact is awful, long waits in the Q. You can talk to 3 different people and get 3 different answers on the same thing, and none may be right. Too many changes not in the best interests of the customer. Your Reward points for the MC, you are CHARGED A FEE to redeem them, you will not find this said anywhere, but try and redeem, you'll be calling customer service and they will tell you, surprise! Afterward, I checked their rates and they are much higher than what we pay elsewhere with our current credit union. She even threatened to end our conversation if I took more than 30 seconds to respond, while she herself took well over a minute, and at times it felt even longer. Below one star. SFCU stole my car and I live in a rural area and I am a senior with critical conditions. This happened during trade-ins where I lost my Honda Fit with no lien and later SFCU wanted me to pay fully for the Nissan with a lousy loan bargain and refused to negotiate. I refused to pay the full amount since it should have been a near even trade-in,, then SFCU repossessed that car without negotiation. They also bothered me with thugs and now crediot demons from Tully, NY that manipulate the evidence and use a shakedown Supreme Court judge in Cooperstown, NY. All of the stress helped to cause blindness in my right eye due to a retinol detachment. So far, lawyers are not helping me, Legal Aid does nothing. It is worse than what I write. read more

I've been a member for years but I'm getting irritated with the hours changing. most people don't get off work until 4:30 -5 pm. if you work in a small town and they don't have your bank by the time you get off work your bank is closed. so I have to resort to night drops which suck because they don't give you envelopes or deposit slips and if they do . sometimes they don't check the night drops so you have to call them. if they could stay open until 5:30 like they used to I would have time to get home from work and still go to the bank. read more

And yet another problem with SFCU. I made my payment for my loan and credit card using the payment option in their app. I paid TWO days before the beginning of the month. I see my accounts are showing payment due for this month! I call and was told that doesn't count as my monthly payment because it was MADE BEFORE THIS MONTH!!! Are you kidding me??? TWO WHOLE DAYS EARLY??? They couldn't just fix it to apply my payments for this month and tell me not to do that again?? Why did Edge merge? Edge was the best CU in town . Now this place could be by far the worst credit union in history. They have mixed up account numbers , money going in the wrong accts . High fees. You pay your bills and they still send late notices when you're on time . No one has any idea what they are doing . They are beyond rude. I have my auto loan through them and after being not even 30 days late on a payment. They called every day threatening repossession. I made the payment plus extra and they now even 4 months later are saying I am 84 days late on a payment. I give this institution ZERO stars . My family banked here when it was Edge for over 30 years . This place is more like a big bank . It's corporate. Try calling and waiting forever just to get a rude representative. And rude doesn't even cut it with the managers . These woman will never hold a candle to the old CEO from Edge . There's nothing worse than fake people. Nothing transferred over correctly and each time I went in they screwed it up even more . This is the worst bank I have ever done business with. Long wait times on the phone, never call back when was told they would, want to charge customers 10 dollars to make a loan payment over the phone. Tried to set up an online account because I Do not live with in a hour of any branch and it was nearly impossible to do, reached out for assistance in setting up account and recieved none. I was 5 days late on a truck loan payment, when I called to make a payment was told I could no longer make the payment for that month it would have to go towards next month, managers couldn't explain to me why except this is how their system is set up, could also not explain to me why the extra money I was paying toward the principle was also going to lower next months payment when I wanted any extra money to go directly to the principle. Was told I would have to make two monthly payments, my normal payment and then speak with an agent of the bank to make a principle only payment. Terrible experience, do not use this bank!!! read more

I set up my account so it could NOT be over drawn but the bank is still trying to make money by making BS charges to my account causing my account to be negative. I called and discussed this and they refused to fix the charges that they had no right to charge to my account. Highly DO NOT recommend this bank! I was a member of Edge Federal credit union when they merged, really taken over by SFCU. It was so unprofessionally done and an absolute shit show. My college son wasn't able to use his credit card for 7 days, no ATM access for 3 days and all of our auto pay accounts couldn't be done for several days at the end of the month prior to the official merger. The 1st correspondence I got from SFCU was that my son's account no longer qualified for overdraft protection and called out all the fees. They later said that letter was a mistake. Monday 10/2 the 1st official day of the merger I showed up at the Edge branch because the ATM card they issued to my son wouldn't activate, turns out someone had entered the wrong phone # for my son, even though my wife and my cards activated and were under the correct phone #. The branch had a sign on the door saying they were closed for the day. Turns out about 50 other people had issues and all started arriving at the Edge location. They finally realized they had to open and try and help all the people that had issues. I find it absolutely amazing that another credit union would be merging with someone else and not have everything lined up and ready to go. It should have been a seamless transition; this isn't the 1st merger in the banking industry. It shows the complete ineptness of SFCU leadership. Prior to the merger I went in to pay the balance for my son's credit card before it would be closed out. The first thing I was told was, "you do know that SFCU will honor the credit card interest rate through Dec and then it becomes a variable rate." Well no I wasn't notified but that just reinforced my decision to leave such a terrible business, it was clear their 1 and only priority was to take over a smaller credit union and start raising fees and making as much money as possible. I went in to close all my accounts yesterday and the woman at the teller station had to have a manager stand over her shoulder as she had zero clue what she was doing. The manager asked me why I was closing all of my accounts, to which I asked her if she really needed to ask me that question. If you are a member of SFCU because you were at Edge I'd suggest you leave as fast as you can. If you're considering opening an account with SFCU, do yourself a favor and check others out first. We went to Empower and the process coudn't have been any more professional, friendly and easy. SFCU is an absolute mess, and I would never do business with them. read more

I had an account with The Sidney Federal Credit Union since 1997. My issue with them took place in 2007. I used a cash advance check from a credit card. What I did not know was that the letter that came with it said it was good for $200. but did not mention there was a $15. fee on it. So when I used it, they bounced it. The Sidney Federal Credit Union charged me a fee for that and then redeposited even after I told them/asked them please do not do that. They did it anyway regardless, "that is the way we do it" was what I was told. Even though they knew it would be returned again. Then they could charge me another fee and so would the credit card company. My husband got the credit card company to return their first fee due to what their letter said that came with the cash advance check. But the credit union told me they always redeposit them twice. So they did and then they did it AGAIN! More fees from both places!!! Needless to say, we took our money out of that place. I do not recommend it at all. read more

I got a loan through SFCU for a minivan I purchased. I was not a member upon application for the loan and got a phone call about signing up once I got my car home. The employee who called only wanted to know something about my address... After that ZERO communications until I started getting notifications of non-payment on the loan. I thought, "huh, I wonder how I missed the statement," made the monthly payment and then went on with life. Next month, same thing. So I called to ask what was going on. Turns out SFCU doesn't send out payment slips on car loans. So it's all on you to schedule yourself a reminder, write the check, and put it in the mail. I'd have been OK with that if I'd known ahead of time! BUT NOBODY FROM SFCU TOLD ME THEY DON'T SEND STATEMENTS! SFCU will never again touch any money I have control over. Oh yeah, and to top it all off they had the vehicle incorrectly listed in their files (it is a van, not a truck). So they can't even do basic paperwork correctly. read more

SFCU used to be amazing. Personalized, professional service. I'm not sure what has happened over the years, besides a huge downward slide. Currently working with them to obtain a refinance mortgage. No one is ever in the office! Doors closed, and lights off! Considering they don't answer their phones either and every call goes to the Mortgage Originators voicemail, the fact they don't answer the phone, aren't in the office, and now I have tried to send information via email, they do not give out emails, only a fax number. Its 2018, most people do not have a fax machine these days. I can't call them, I can't see them in person, I can't email them. The one time I was able to speak with someone in person, she wasn't able to answer any of my questions, making me wait days and days for answers to simple questions other banks answer on the spot. Mortgages aren't usually an easy process, but it should not be this difficult. I don't want to start this process over, but word of advice... DO NOT BOTHER WITH SFCU FOR A MORTGAGE! RUN!!! read more

Quite possibly the WORST credit union in the history of credit unions. (1) The tellers are all local people and don't have a problem discussing your finances or other business with each other and the general public. This information comes directly from a SFCU employee who still works at the Sidney branch. (2) If you have a bank card associated with your checking and travel outside of a 40 mile radius of the bank, don't count on being able to use it. For anything. I was stranded at a train station near NYC because it would not work in the ticketing machine and I had no cash on me. When I frantically called them, they said there had been some fraudulent banking activity (nothing associated with my account) in that geographical location, so they were not allowing the charges to go through. Perfect!! By the time they released the card for use, I had missed the train and ended up waiting on a deserted train platform for another hour. (3) Whenever I deposit bonded checks into our (former) business account, some tellers would put a three day hold on them - despite the SFCU policy of having funds from bonded checks immediately available. Apparently not all employees are familiar with that policy - and any effort to educate them on their own policy is met with sarcasm and nastiness. (4) A friend of ours just closed all four of her business accounts because whenever customers and employees brought in one of her checks to cash, the tellers would all show it to each other and give the bearer of the check a hard time. It bears mentioning that she had been banking there since 1983 and had never bounced a check or had any negative marks on any of her accounts. Community Bank is light years better to deal with, have pleasant and discrete employees and are more than happy to welcome anyone who is fed up with SFCU. read more
