Young eagles has a program allows the kids to go up at their first time for free, give us them a membership into hundreds of museums across the nation and a free membership at Sportys. Sportys is a online student pilot license course and pilot resource center. Great basin honored the discovery flight certificate at face value, some of the other places want to charge extra money, so this is a bonus. My son arrived early. I had to sign the required waiver and permission for a minor blah blah. Kevin was his instructor and my son said he was really good. Finally it's in Atlantic aviation building which is quite a nice terminal.

Finding an instructor during COVID and for a tailwheel aircraft proved to be difficult. After a chain of intros next thing you know Taylor and I are flying together getting things started! He was flexible with scheduling to help meet my aggressive timeline of trying to finish all my training in less than two months. I had bought a plane for my training and already completed ground school before it all. Taylor is super nice guy and is a very patient and thorough instructor. He always made sure to cover our bases and stay in close contact with schedules, planning to make sure we were thoroughly covering all required Part 61 knowledge requirements, and most of all having a fun time while training. I did all the instruction in a plane I owned, and Taylor flew up to me a handful of times until I was solo'd (just North of Reno) to accommodate plane location and timing. It was also nice having someone more near my age as well with a lot of tailwheel experience and now I can say I've got a great aviation contact and friend. I called over 10 times within my three month Groupon, and no response. I tried leaving a message, but their voicemail was full. So, because the phone number didn't work, I went on their website and contacted them through their email. Again, no response. Finally, I went on their yelp and tried messaging the business. No response again. Super frustrating, do not spend your money, this is a scam.

It is a part 61 school which allows me great flexibility especially with scheduling and pace. There is a good selection of well-maintained aircraft and even an advanced simulator available. Rental and instruction rates are very reasonable. Checking availability and scheduling is easily done online. I am impressed on how organized everything is. Emma is my CFI. She is friendly, knowledgeable, and a great mentor and educator, helping to instill confidence while making concepts easy to understand. I now have the time to dedicate to this; Alpine was my closest school to home. It's a shame as I am sure they have a good instructor based on the reviews, but I will not be following up with them. As a 1,400 hr. private pilot, I went to him in April 2017 to complete my biannual flight review as well as to gain some experience with a modern EFIS-equipped cockpit and to understand the Sport Pilot rating requirements on behalf of my neighbor who wants to re-start his work towards an eventual aviation career after having stopped his training elsewhere after four lessons. Paul's knowledge extends far beyond the Sport Pilot certificate -- he has in-depth knowledge of all categories of airplane ratings and operations. But, most-importantly, he impressed me as one of the 5% or so of flight instructors who had developed a solid method of teaching and who adheres to that proven method and style. 95% of flight instructors have no problem aviating, but they seem to struggle with teaching techniques. Paul is excellent at teaching in my estimation. Flying the Light Sport Aircraft (LSA) is a very economical way of building hours, or, like I needed, getting familiar with the modern electronic flight deck. His aircraft are Garmin-equipped, so the interface will be familiar to those who have older, non-EFIS-equipped panels and who are thinking of upgrading. Some time in the not too distant future, I can foresee the support infrastructure for analog instruments falling apart, so those of use who own aircraft need to get ready for the day. Congratulations, Paul for a great day flying. My two-hour BFR lasted 3.5 hours because I was so comfortable with Paul.
