Good roadside diner breakfast. Lots of choices. The entire menu has lots of local flavors. Service was excellent. Quaint diner atmosphere. Touristy items for sale, including local artist's works. We enjoyed our early morning meal very much. Highly recommend this place.

    Side of sopaipillas, really yummy!

Looks like someplace to pass right by, but the food is really good! It was a bit warm (no AC I think), and definitely nothing fancy, but conveniently located if you're passing through. Hubs had a green chili burger, which was solid, fries were the coated kind, not my fave, but not terrible either. Kid had a grilled cheese and fries, no complaints. I had the stuffed sopaipilla and it was delicious. Also got a side order of sopaipillas for us all to share, they were really good. Light and pillowy, with some honey on the side. Delish! Would definitely stop in again if I ever find myself hungry in these parts.

Good home cooked food. Best option for 80 mile radius. The service is excellent. I had the Huevos Rancheros with hash browns

What a find on the road back home. One of the few restaurants that actually has indoor seating. The food was awesome and the portions ample. We split the Ranch Hand breakfast with an extra side of biscuits and gravy. The biscuits were fluffy, soft, and incredible. Definitely a must stop when traveling to and from Trinidad.

We stopped here on a road trip to Colorado in August 2023. There is no sign outside to let you know this is the Sierra Grande. We passed it, got to town, and turned around. The food was OK but not polished. I had the Carne Asada (steak) which came with rice, pinto beans, guaramole, and a tortilla. The steak was very tough in spite of having been pounded very flat. It was less than 1/4" thick overall. The seasoning was minimal and not highly flavored. The beans and rice were acceptable. The tortilla was OK. The guacamole was good and made correctly. My companion had the 2 beef patties covered with cheese and green chile sauce and that was probably the better pick. We had the pecan pie for desert. It was acceptable, but only had pecans on the top and not all the way through. Given the high price of pecans, I was not surprised. The prices here were reasonable, considering this place is out in the middle of nowhere. The service was OK.

I stopped in this restaurant while traveling across New Mexico. It's a combination gas station/diner/gift store. I bought some gas and then sat for a second breakfast and a short driving break. But my waitress left abruptly after she got a phone call, and the cook came out to substitute. At first she asked me to wait for the waitress to return to get my check! When I indicated I was in a hurry, she reluctantly prepared the bill. The place was clean, the food (one egg and two sausage patties and a small orange juice made from concentrate was a bit over $6) was average. Restrooms are only for paying customers.

This is definitely a dive but a diamond in the rough. We ordered Sierra burgers with onion rings. The green chilli on the burger was not spicy, which was good. The staff is very attentive and friendly.

My son said the pancakes were amazing!

I've been coming here for 6 years, on the Texas to Colorado drive. The food has been amazing every single time! I've taken it to go before but I find it's best to dine in. Anna was our server and Rosie, the cook was kind enough to make us breakfast from scratch after the breakfast cutoff time (11 am) had passed. We'll go here every trip!!

I tried this roadside cafe on a suggestion from someone who had eaten here on numerous occasions. I ordered the double decker club and it an ample sandwich stacked with all the goodies. The prices are fair and the service was good. The flies in this place really are ridiculous, 6 or 7 just hanging out on my booth. The meal might be good but some on that many flies just at my booth ? I will not return to this place although I pass by here on occasion.

Waitress was friendly and the prices were reasonable. My child's tacos were ok but my burrito was a bit bland and less than warm.

The building itself is great -- adobe-style, colorful, and exactly what you hope a Mexican restaurant looks like. When you walk in, the atmosphere is lively and welcoming. We were greeted right away and seated immediately. Chips and salsa came out quickly. The salsa tasted fresh and traditional, but it had a little more kick than I personally can handle. (If you like spicy, you'll probably love it.) We also ordered guacamole, because we order guacamole everywhere we go -- it's kind of our thing. This one surprised us a bit. Instead of the usual chunky guac with onions and tomatoes, it was more like mashed avocado with a generous amount of red pepper flakes. Unfortunately that pushed it into "too spicy for me" territory. For drinks we shared a piña colada, which was fantastic -- topped with whipped cream and a cherry and exactly what you want after a long day of driving. I ordered the combo fajitas (chicken and steak) and they came out sizzling hot on the classic cast-iron platter with peppers, onions, and tomatoes. Always a good sign when you can hear your dinner coming from across the room. It came with rice, beans, sour cream, and guacamole on the side. The rice had a nice smoky flavor and the beans were topped with melted cheese -- both really good. They don't automatically include shredded cheese with the fajitas, but they happily brought some when I asked. My husband ordered the chicken and cheese quesadilla appetizer, but when it arrived we both laughed because it was enormous -- definitely entrée-sized. He said it was really good and had no trouble finishing it. Service was a little slow, but the place was busy and had a great vibe. It felt like one of those local spots people in town love. It's also right near the highway, which probably makes it a popular stop for travelers like us. Prices were about what you'd expect for a sit-down Mexican restaurant. No military discount, but overall still a solid experience. If we find ourselves driving through Trinidad again, we'd absolutely stop back in.
