They did a really nice job on my privacy fence 3 years ago and it still looks good. There was one board that developed crazy sap and they moved it to behind a 4x4 so not visible, and replaced it with the board that was there. Smart idea so it was weathered and didn't stand out like a sore thumb. read more

Our initial engagement with Sierra Structures was positive, especially as they assisted in our engagement with the City to get our fence permit approved; however, within our first year of having the fence put up, we noticed numerous issues in its construction. Some of the boards and caps were never attached. Some boards are barely attached, as a result of nails being placed way too close to the ends. With this, there are places where nails are actively sticking out of boards. Consequently, numerous posts have detached from the pickets. When we presented these deficiencies to Sierra, they attributed all the issues to warping of the wood and not labor, so if we wanted to fix our less than year-old fence, we would have to pay nearly $1,000 for them to fix it as warping is not covered by our warranty. Note, a couple boards are warping as a result of their not being secured; however, Sierra insisted that warping was the cause of the detachments and not the other way around despite the fact that some boards are simply not attached or barely attached. Additionally, multiple other areas of the fence where boards and posts are not properly secured have not experienced warping. So, to attribute all the fence's issues to warping is disappointing and inaccurate. After presenting numerous photos and justifications for how faulty labor resulted in our fence having issues within our first year, they pushed back and reiterated that none of these issues were covered by our warranty. We are disappointed that Sierra Structures did not take accountability for their workmanship as we really should not be experiencing these issues within the first year of construction. I unfortunately cannot recommend them to other customers as they will simply justify their shoddy workmanship. read more

Dear Ken M, Please elaborate on where my comment is inaccurate? Yes, your company did make a mistake. Yes, after multiple calls and repeated issues, you did TRY to clean up more appropriately, twice (as my original comment states). That means that you had three chances to do the cleanup correctly, once on the day of install, once when you had the gentleman come back to pick up his tools that were left on the lawn, and once when the other two employees came to clean up a few days later. Clean-up is the easy part, and you still didn't get it right after three attempts. Also, when you say that you gave back a little money, I think what you really mean to say is that, your angry customer insisted that you reimburse them for the emergency vet visit that was a result of the debris left in the yard. There was no good faith gesture or offer to reduce the price based on the negligence of your team. I was refunded the exact amount of the vet visit, and only for the charges directly related to the work your team did. Please don't try and spin that into an example of compassion for your customers. Writing a review here was never about getting a response from you or your company. That ship sailed months ago. And, I can assure you, the point of my review was not to get a "thank you" from you. It was to warn other potential customers of what they might be faced with when choosing your company for similar services. read more

Finished fence looks great! Price was a bit more than the other company I got a quote from, but they were going to fix my gate latches and a warped gate post that another company had installed last year before we purchased the house. I did have to pester them to get some tree debris picked up (there was too much for my husband and I to break down and put out for the garbage man) and also to revise the quote since there was less clearing required than we all originally thought there would be, but everything was resolved to my satisfaction! I do recommend Sierra Structures, everyone was very nice and professional and the fence looks great. They also took care of the permit I needed. read more

My first experience with a privacy fence project was awesome. This was for years ago. Fast forward 2020... Waited 4 months for an estimate. Estimator TRAVIS is a joke. Extremely unresponsive and never follows through on his promises to call you back. I had a deck built and they did a great job but I feel I was overpriced as my project changed 3 times due to failed permits. The communication is poor and no one is on the same page with this company. I'll be getting my screen porch extended but will NOT Use this company ever again. read more

We had a fence installed recently--we had a very bad experience and are not happy with the finished project. The quote and initial scheduling process was promising. The price was much higher than we expected, but we had heard such good things about Sierra Structures that we were willing to pay the premium. Then during the building, things went downhill. The workers were reluctant to answer our questions, and refused to make changes we requested despite them only conflicting with cosmetic standards (e.g. having fence pickets flush with the ground to prevent our dogs from digging under, instead of even on top). In the end, we're not even happy with the way it looks. We (two women) felt patronized and dismissed during these interactions with the workers (two men). Upon completion of the fence, we noticed issuses with the gate latches. It took multiple calls and emails to schedule a repair. read more

Sierra Structures built a beautiful trex deck for me. My previous deck had some sagging areas, and when SS took off the top layer even I could see that there was rot, and that the joists were uneven. When the workers rebuilt the joists I could see a big difference in how precisely they were put in. The deck is much nicer than my previous one. I liked that the workers came and worked all day and every day until it was done. They worked until 6 every day, and some workers stayed longer. On some previous projects with other companies workers come and work part of the day, or don't come on some days. The Sierra System workers were always courteous, and did a good job of cleaning up after they were done. I'm very happy with the result and would definitely use them again. read more

My experience with Sierra Structures started out well and then quickly declined. Jody came out to measure and give me a quote which he did quickly and I agreed, paid the deposit and then waited. The delay was because my neighborhood's ARC committee took it's sweet time getting me approval. Krista the scheduling person worked with me and we got it scheduled quickly after I had approval. However, come the actual install, that is when the problems started. I needed to have a half-inch gap between pickets, when I noticed the gaps were uneven I asked the crew head about it and he gave me a response of that's the way it is and couldn't do much. They cut my fiber internet line and blocked in an outdoor electrical plug. With the plug, it looks like they tried to correct the issue and didn't actually check to see if it would open. They could have moved the fence back a few inches or forward about a foot and that would have solved the problem too. Also, one gate didn't open all the way. That could have been fixed if they just made the gate open inward or checked it and adjusted the bottom to account for ground clearance. There is a serious lack of quality control. I received an email from the project manager asking if Sierra Structures exceeded my expectations and I could only reply "no, you did not even meet my expectations." I would expect that the "project manager" would be out to the site to see it and assess my spacing complaint herself, but to my knowledge, she just talked to the installer and didn't actually check anything herself and gave me the same whelp we can't fix it. Also, she doesn't pick up the phone ever. Every time I've called I get a voicemail that is not remotely returned quickly. As of this review, they haven't fixed anything, or let me know if it's scheduled to be fixed. read more

Sierra redid our deck (posts, stairs, railings, gate, putting down Trex floors). We had a mixed experienced. The work turned out well, but communication was really bad. The first day the crew showed up they asked me what parts of the deck they were supposed to demo because no one had told them. They forgot they were supposed to put up a gate until we told them. I only heard from the Project Manager when I called him. The person who quoted the work never told the project manager to replace the posts, so we had to intervene to make sure it happened. All in all, even though the work looks good, the process was frustrating, and I wouldn't work with them again. read more

Average cost, average work on a split rail with wire; site left a bit messy, although they offered to return to clean up after I had already done so. Also, and more important to a homeowner, the installer's choice and positioning of pieces from the supplied wood components (and orientation of a third gate) lacked any consideration for sight lines/prominence, and they admittedly stated they don't really use that as a factor in installation. That communicates to me commercial might be their better game, or maybe their different installers keep up their standards differently. Huh. Maybe it's just a roll of the dice? Job took 4.5 days instead of three, and communications with rep seemed slow. These things came as no surprise however, so they really don't influence the commentary/rating--the lack of attention to detail does. **In the end** I'll go to three, rather than two stars...one of the owners came out to address things and did so in a very respectful, understanding manner. I'm going to think the issues I encountered are a rarity, and I just got the wrong installer on the wrong day...might be worth considering this company, as they did eventually resolve things pretty well. read more

Awful! We were planning on building a deck extension with Sierra. After quite a few attempts at getting estimates and many emails and texts to ask where our quote was we finally got one. I should have trusted my instincts and went with another company but against my better judgement we chose to use Sierra. Travis has poor communication skills. It would take my husband and I multiple attempts to get any sort of response. After Travis told us he had submitted our permit, my husband and I gave the county a call to check up. Come to find our they NEVER submitted it. We would have NEVER known unless we decided to call. They were quick to take our $4400 but couldn't follow through with simple tasks. The only response they could give us was sorry. Now we are back to square one, after 3 months of investment with Sierra. If I were you I would most certainly look else where unless you want to wait MONTHS for a project or are willing to have to do most of the ground work yourself. read more

My screened porch project started 4 months ago. Not finished yet. My yard has been a mess, no clean up. We cleaned some of it ourselves. I have no idea when this project will be completed. I wanted to shout out to Sierra Structures at 917 Ellis Rd. Durham, NC. Recently a large limb fell from a tree in my back yard and crushed one side of a double gate. I contacted Sierra Structures and was referred to Dan an associate there. I explained to Dan what had happened to my gate. He asked that I get dimensions for the gate. I sent photos and Dan responded that he could get me a gate. The next day I drove to Sierra Structures where I was assisted by the receptionist regarding the gate. She advised that Dan was called away suddenly due to a family emergency. A phone call was made to Dan and he was able to relay the information about the gate. My wife and I picked up the gate. We attempted to install the gate properly and were unsuccessful in doing so. I contacted Dan and he was able to refer me to a man to help me. A gentleman contacted me and said he could help us. Upon him arriving to my I found out his name was Tommy. Tommy was able to install the gate, no issues. I appreciate all the help we received from Sierra Structures and their friendly and very able associate. read more

I specifically requested a 6 foot privacy wood fence, and the fence ended up being 3 inches short. This is a substantial difference to me, but the contract was worded to the company's advantage. They did not tell me before I signed the contract the fence would be three inches short, even though I kept reiterating the height needed to be 6 feet. I expressed my disappointment, but any changes would come at an additional cost. Let the buyer beware!! read more

the project was very messy. Project manager (PM) lacked an overall plan and attention to customer needs, just sent a bunch of worker to work without notifying customer. There might be weeks or month gap between work. It seemed to me that they cannot retain quality workers, who can easily get from referral from their work. Workers reported to PM, did not share their plan. Internal or friendly inspection only, no quality control at all. You can hire individual contractor or carpenter with the help of google or from lumber department at Lowe's to get better satisfaction. read more
