I would have given you 5 stars in 1992. Years ago at age 19 (29 years ago), I went to Sierra Tucson to get help for Anorexia and other issues. They helped me with early life trauma and really got my life back on track. They literally saved my life. It was a very loving and supportive environment and I am very proud to be an Alumni. If you are looking for something different than critical care, call them. They were the last treatment center I ever needed for Anorexia. I went into the field of psychotherapy myself and have had a rewarding life experience. I was about to refer a colleague to use the Sierra Tucson conference center for an upcoming nutritional symposium. I am so glad that I did some research before I did. I would have done so proudly. Apparently Sierra Tucson is not the beautiful, healing campus that it once was. There are some good reviews, but the ones that I read, keeping ST's ratings VERY LOW. By the way, the cost of my own treatment in 1992 as a college freshman, was over 43, 000.00 for my stay. The stay saved my life, but it was also a very luxurious opportunity that I took full advantage of and that meant a lot. What I want to know is what happened? Why doesn't Sierra Tucson take ownership of their understaffing and their own need for a critical care unit that is therapeutic? Copper Sky being the reported "prison block?!!", and anything as you may know that is copper, is going to rust. I think you need to bulldoze that idea and advertise that you are set up for handling less critical care than some of these folks need! I want to be a proud Alumni. And I want Sierra Tucson to take some of its profits to right some wrongs. I'm just so sorry that I cannot refer someone there without expecting something more traumatic to happen to them. Let me tell you, this place is awful. I am so terrified of this place that I made a fake yelp account because I'm scared they will come after me for posting this... I went there twice. First time was because I got thrown in a legit psych ward by the police when my ex lied to the cops and told them I was going to harm myself (PG version). I wasn't. But that psych ward was so awful and they wouldn't release me, so I transferred here instead. Lot of terrible stuff went on: people throwing food in their bedrooms, everyone was fucking, screaming people at all hours, people burning down chairs, people running away into the open desert, and a ton more. I was supposed to be there for 30 days but they kicked me out after 14 because I wasn't "depressed enough," which was true but who are they to decide that for you? Long story short, that ordeal also made me loose my job which made me loose my housing, had to move to a new state because I couldn't afford to go back, I was initially forced to take an ambulance to the first psych ward so had a $3000 debt, and a lot of other struggles. 7 months later I went back because I was struggling after all that BS that I had to go through. It was 100x worse. They now required you to wear a bracelet that tracked your location. First morning back another resident punched me in the face when I dropped something on the table where everyone ate. Found out 2 days later they let a N@zi in who was proudly showing off his swastika tattoo and that's when it really got bad. Tons of people found out and one day while I was in class with about 40 others, somewhere else on the campus people started throwing rocks at the N@zi. 30 min after I left class a group of the military people who were there for treatment came up to me and was physically threatening me because they heard I did it, when I had 40+ witnesses that I wasn't even nearby. This was only like the 5th day I was there. After that, I told them I was leaving and the employees told me if I tried to leave they would have me arrested claiming I was going to kill someone if I left... I was scared for my own safety because legit killers wanted to harm me... Long story short I called the cops myself, explained the situation, they advised me to sleep (since it was around 11pm) and they'd make the employees give me my car keys in the morning. I was a normal guy before all of this, now I'm am legit Fd up. especially with all the meds they forced me to take. At one point there I was on 2 anti psych meds, painkillers, Xanax, and sleeping pills all at the same time... I am terrified I'll never be the same. I don't even trust health professionals to help with my situation now. Sierra Tucson should be shut the fk down! read more

Fuck this place. Supposed to be a rehabilitation. I have ptsd from going there. You're supposed to be off drugs and alcohol but I was fed Valium and other drugs. Also- they have a literal open door policy where they can entered your room that you share with one other person and while your on "drugs" you're unaware of who it could be. This place is by far the best rehab I have ever been to. Hence why it was rated #1 rehab in Arizona in 2023. All their therapists do have their bachelors or masters in social work and the therapists here are experienced. The staff has all been respectful and are willing to help to the best of their ability. The food is delicious but I would suggest maybe lighter meals during lunch (maybe even sandwich bar for people who don't want a heavy lunch). My own primary therapist was amazing and extremely helpful and extremely smart. Also, the integrative services are amazing and the massages are better than any resort I have been to. My suggestion to anyone is to always advocate for yourself (just like in the real world). This place isn't perfect and it does have some flaws, but come in with an open mind and be flexible. Catering to 100+ residents and trying to meet every individual need would be impossible. If you need help for addiction, trauma, mood disorders, personality disorders, and eating disorders like me, then you'll get a lot more help than other rehab (I had multiple 1:1 therapists for my individual needs). Do NOT trust this place. Their website still talks about their chronic pain program but their pain director left months ago. They're still accepting pain patients despite not having the right people to care for them. There have been several times where the center has either lied or been wrong about information between what admissions has told us and what actually took place when my sister was accepted into their pain program, some of which has ended up costing our family hundreds and thousands of extra dollars that we were not planning on spending because they said that things were included that were not included. They don't have a pain program, they don't know how to deal with chronic pain patients, and they caused my sister more harm and trauma than they helped with. They did not do anything to help her pain, she was screaming in agony and got no help or sympathy from the staff. The staff is uncaring, cold, unhelpful, and have shitty bedside manner. I would not recommend this program for anyone, but especially for people who are attracted to it for their chronic pain treatment. If I could give them zero stars I would, we've had nothing but problems with them. read more

I've suffered with Depression Trauma for years. I was so hopeful this place could help. I was so very wrong, it in fact made me worse. The place is beautiful but it is poorly run. The doctors are hard to see & staff afraid to talk to doctors or management. 1st they took me off all meds & caused me to nearly have a stroke. The meds given were OFTEN not put in the computer but staff wouldn't ask, wouldn't let me ask to fix. I ended up being traumatized by this place. It wasn't just me, nearly all patients seemed to have the same problems. I was so triggered by med changes & lack of that my thyroid went hyper not uncommon in PTSD. It took nearly a week to get them to check my bloodwork which did show I was hyper thyroid. They didn't even know extreme stress caused this, I did. I've been inpatient before with success but not here. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. It deserves no stars or negative. It is run by fear of management & you never get any help. They refuse to ask docs esp after hours & weekends. I paid a ton to go here please don't go here at least not for mental health. Not sure about addictions as I don't have any luckily. Go elsewhere, don't let the nice looks fool you, this place did more harm than good. I nearly killed myself it was that bad. I left worse off for having gone here. read more

Awful place. We brought our son to Sierra Tucson for depression, anxiety and anger issues. He was there for a month and we got two calls asking for more money in addition to the $65,000 we had already paid they wanted more money so he could have a massage. Three days before he was set to come home after calling and leaving messages and emailing and not getting a response trying to figure out the day he was coming home so I could coordinate flights. I got a call saying that he should stay a few more weeks and that it would cost another $16,000. We ultimately let him stay three more days which cost us approximately $6000 not only are they only interested in getting your money they don't do anything to help your child. Our son has been home for three months now and I can honestly say they did nothing to help him and his struggles. We ended up finding an outpatient treatment in Seattle for him which has been helpful. No one has ever called to follow up and see how he's doing. No one has ever once emailed us about his care and how he is doing. It's amazing to me that you spend that much money and time at a mental health rehabilitation center and not one person has ever reached out to either myself, my husband or my child since he's left there. We then got a $900 check from our insurance company last week because they submitted everything to our insurance even though we paid everything in cash upfront we were not told that they were going to go through our insurance because we were told they wouldn't pay for any of it. They had the nerve to to send us a letter telling us we need to send them the $900 It's unbelievable to me how this place can still be in business. Please do your research, listen to the reviews and do not send your loved one to Sierra Tucson. I would actually give no stars if I could. I am beyond disappointed!!!!!! read more

Please read the other reviews as well. This place is not a luxury rehab like it is marketed as. What they don't tell you is before you go to the actual rehab they lock you in what's called "copper sky" or "copper jail" as everyone else calls it. You'll walk around like a Zombie there with inattentive staff members who you can tell are just there for a check. Once you get to the actual rehab campus it is nothing but boring groups with inexperienced counselors, high school drama between full grown adults, and an ankle bracelet they use to track you which makes it feel like you're an inmate. They also let the patients run amuck with out any sort of repercussion. This place solely cares about the money and it shows in every single employees work ethic. I am only giving this place 2 stars because it has a nice pool, decent cafeteria food and a nice gym. read more

Megan and Oscar were my safe space as my nurses and I was truly blessed to have such compassionate and understanding people in my corner. Lifelong adult struggle with treatment resistant depression, anxiety, complex ptsd. Sadly I've been in several treatment centres in my lifetime; however, this was by far the ABSOLUTE WORST EVER EXPERIENCE. The place is beautiful and offers many services often for additional costs, but it was not effective as a matter of fact I was worse off for going here. This company is a nightmare. They have staff so afraid to ask questions that patients are harmed. The constant mix up in drugs . The fact that the doctor forgets to put a drugs in the systems and staff will not believe you or verify even when the doctor is in the right there in a nearby room. I literally went from depressed to triggered with horrid anxiety because my meds were always messed up. 1st, you don't remove people from certain medications all at once and expect their body to not be in shock. I could have died in this place easily. I visited before going in to make sure it wasn't just dressed up with lipstick. But, fool me it was. If you need a structured expensive vacation it's the place, but if you really need help and support, it isnt worth it. This placed failed with an F. They stick you in a small old building until you pass their you won't harm yourself test. Then you move to the rather nice accommodations. I never used the pool or any of the fancy stuff because they failed for over 28 days to even help. My meds were messed up, It caused me to be more messed up and no one believes you. I literally suffered while in here. It took me longer to really recover from Sierra Tuson than 28 DAYS. Never go here if you need help. Go here to tell people you went to an expensive treatment centre. It literally was useless. It wasn't just me,nearly everyone was having medication problems. One person with a life threatening brain injury couldn't get her life saving meds on time or they weren't in the system. Also, don't get your doctor visit on Wednesday-Friday. Because it will get messed up and you are stuck all weekend because they won't fix it until Monday at the soonest. They never call the doctors on the weekend, NEVER! I have nothing good to stay about this place, or the others owned by this company. They start working you for their company owned stepdown programs. I will never forget my time spent at Sierra Tucson. I am 8 years sober this month, and my 28 days spent at Sierra Tucson 8 years ago among some of the most caring counselors truly changed my life and helped me gain the kick start I needed to get my life in order. Michael is an incredible counselor and sound healer- he saw and recognized something I could not even see within myself. His singing bowl classes helped facilitate my own love today for sound healing. I will never forget and constantly revisit The Four Agreements. The group counseling was powerful, my parents and I still to this day talk about how much we learned and moved through on family weekend. The therapists, the massage therapists, acupuncturists-- all made me feel like I deserved to heal. And that feeling stuck with me, and has become my own. We all deserve healing. Now I only pray that others have such an amazing opportunity as was given to me, I pray they see it as an opportunity and use every moment. read more

Sad to see such low ratings, but not uncommon for a rehab to be rated low, not everyone is gonna get it, not everyone is going to make it.. Sierra Tucson played a vital roll in my shift from a drug addicted and emotionally damaged person into a functional loviNg and caring individual. There were some humps in the road along the way but ST gave me the resources to recover. Namely doctor Moyer. She was an amazing influence on my life and provided me with the gift of compassIon. I cannot say enough good things about her, I'd fly to Tucson to meet with her again. Other highlights: amazing food, drinks, and coffee. Super nice nurses and behavioral therapists. A ton of different therapeutic modalities. Absolutely beautiful campus and natural environment. Lodging is great, each room has a private bathroom. I had my own room for 22 out of 30 days which was great, had to spend the last week with a super noisy snorer but I can deal with that. The family week program is another phenomenal resource for the patient and their family. My wife and father both enjoyed it and learned a lot. This was not my first rehab experience but it was certainly my best. Thank you Sierra Tucson! read more

Let me start by saying that Sierra Tucson should not be surprised by this post from me. I also have a number of witnesses to each account and each has been followed by a written report. Nothing was ever done to correct the situations. I have NEVER been treated with such disrespect, fervent discrimination, negligence and absolute audacity in my life. The blatant racism was beyond my wildest dreams. When I mean racism, I genuinely mean that I was given another patients medication because they could not tell two black women apart (though we genuinely do not look alike). My medical chart was used to help forge the treatment plan of another black person, racial slurs were hurled towards myself and others with no consequences nor accountability of the patient. I point blank asked if were to defend myself in any respect, what would happen. The answer was 'instant dismissal from the program. So then why is it that when a person yells "I WILL BUY YOUR LIFE" not enough grounds for dismissal? I had to report this man so many times that he became a stalker. A LITERAL STALKER. It was open, staff witnessed it, treatment team witnessed it, other clients complained on my behalf and absolutely nothing was done. OH! Did I mention the completed SUICIDE that happened days before my arrival that was NOT disclosed to me prior? The idea of having allergies to medications and food was beyond comprehension. I am allergic to gluten. My throat closes up in an anaphylaxis reaction. When I said "I am allergic to gluten to the point of needing an Epi Pen", nothing was done to course correct. In fact, they advertised MORE food to be gluten free when it was not. I nearly starved. It got to the point when the kitchen staff was so mean and rude at my having to report the matters that the HEAD CHEF literally threw my food at me. There were days where I starved because I was so scared of the staff and being given gluten. I had to fight to get an Epi-Pen on me as well as my inhaler. Having seizures is not fun. When you are in the middle of having one, it's NOT the time to have people rubbing all over your body. Nor is it the time to 'check someones glucose with a needle'. "ADVOCATE FOR YOURSELF!" Is the most used and useLESS phrase ever. That. Did. NOTHING. Because of the suicide, Joint Commission came to town to investigate. Its a pretty big sign when Sierra Tucson took active measures to prevent me from speaking to JC (for those who do not know, Joint Commission is almost a governing body that gives a residential facility and the rehabs their licenses). When I came across a member of JC on a golf cart, staff would speed up to ensure I couldn't make conversation. People were literally steered away from my direction or would ensure that I was not given the time of day, nor to even look at me. They knew that if I was given the chance, I could have had the place shut down. The ONLY reason why I did not get the chance to speak with someone was because I contracted COVID. On top of being allergic to gluten, I am allergic to antihistamines (yes, I'm allergic to allergy medication...trust me I know it's bizarre and yes spring time get ROUGH for ya homegirl) . After being DENIED FOOD from the kitchen staff, I was finally given food...with gluten in it. After administering an Epi-Pen, nurses were ordered to give me 50mg of Benadryl.....allergy medications. It is clear that not a soul read my chart because it clearly states that allergy medication will, like gluten, will LITERALLY.KILL.ME. Yet what happened? A nurse decided to still slip it into my medications as if I wouldn't be asking questions or see that my medications looked odd. We are given a wristband with our allergies and various information written on there. No one cared. OH! did I mention the other numerous failed suicide attempts around the campus? My bad. What about watching my roommate have a Grand Mal Seizure and nursing do nothing about it? I had to alert them that she was having a seizure and watched them watch HER fall to the ground ...head first. After she fell...head first, that 911 was called. Mind you, I was there for depression, panic attacks and disordered eating. I have no history of addictions, self harm, legal issues, nothing. I begged and pleaded for the help I went there for. That I paid for. That I was promised. This is just a small list in the table of contents of things I encountered. Do yourself and your loved ones a favor, stay away. If you want to keep your will to live and faith in humanity, I URGE you to go somewhere else. The PTSD, the frustration, the lies, the neglect is not worth it. Keep fighting. Keep going. This shitty world would be even shittier without you, not better. read more

I just spent the holiday season at Sierra Tucson (2021-22). I was there 10 years ago, and it has changed 360 degrees. Instead of being privately owned, it is owned by wealthy Acadia Healthcare, whose number one priority is their profit. Accommodations, food, treatment, staff, are all insufficient for the huge price tag. Errors in scheduling, lack of aftercare, general housekeeping issues are a few of the many reasons you should think long and hard before wasting your money on this place. read more

Never consider this place. I have been away for 6 months, doing fine and waited to review to make sure my perspective is correct. This, from top to bottom, is a for-profit enterprise where patient recovery matters not a bit. In fact, if you fail, they will make more money on your return if you are unfortunate enough to go back. As with all operations that are simply money making machines (it is now owned by a Tennessee company called Arcadia, a publicly listed company which needs income and profit growth above all). The facility is completely understaffed and those that remain are harried, overworked and mostly unpleasant. I paid $45,000 and still got the hard sell for "extra" treatments. Some of the professional treatment staff try but they are burdened by so many quitting and creating chaos. They have a motto: Don't try and fix Sierra Tucson, fix yourself. That is simply because Sierra Tucson is unfixable and you are. Finally, you are not a patient there. Your worth is only how much they can get for or from you. Beyond that, they could not give a rats ass about your health. Please consider every other treatment center before subjecting yourself to their abuse and rapacity. read more

I'm giving ST three stars only bc of the amazing psychiatrist, process group therapist, the naturopath, my particular EMDR therapist and a particular masseuse and acupuncturist. I agree with all the complaints, the business/insurance department is atrocious, the food is worse, the scheduling is ridiculous, and the pure lack of consideration to our individual needs is shocking. If they've been purchased by a conglomerate, it shows. It's way too expensive for all the gas lighting that happens before, during, and after attending. If you have money to burn, and are strong enough to advocate for yourself while in, then go and focus on the amazing therapists. Be sure to demand what you want and don't take no for an answer. Then you will get a lot out of the therapy. Otherwise, skip it and and find a more caring, mindful place that pays direct attention to your individual needs. read more

Before going to ST (my first residential experience) I did copious research. The reviews scared me, but I figured angry people wrote reviews. I want to take the time, now being 7 months post treatment, to warn anyone who is looking to seek refuge/treatment here. The RASCs (similar to RAs/security team) watched as I was verbally assaulted and when my things were stolen, I asked for help. The RASC literally shrugged his shoulders. Writing a "suggestion" form is a joke. Once I found my stolen items, I told the male patient advocate and his direct quote was "so all your complaints were lies?" I went here for help with suicidal ideation. I only left with an even worse mental state and worsened PTSD. My group "therapist" did nothing to help us. I told her I did not feel safe at ST and she wrote on my discharge papers that I was "caught up in drama". I witnessed multiple physical assaults, suicide attempts, and was stalked. The only saving grace was my psych. He saw the traumatic experiences that were happening around me and advocated for early discharge. NONE of the assaults, unsafe experiences, etc were reported in my ROI, which is what insurance saw. I paid $65k for more trauma. They would spontaneously lock fellow patients up due to "suspicion" of Covid. These patients received some zoom classes, if anyone showed up. Some of them did not receive food or drinks for more than 12 hours. The patients would test negative and still be stuck inside after multiple PCR tests were done. However, no one was tested upon entry to the facility? So twisted. I know this review is scattered and there's so much more I can say. I want to send love to the nurses, psychiatrists, and naturopaths who actually care. Otherwise, this place is a nightmare. Please take of yourself and your recovery and do not go here. read more

Sierra Tucson without a doubt saved my life. Last week I celebrated 6 months sober and ever since I stepped foot in ST my life has become bigger, and better than I have ever known. 6 months ago I was scared and broken, reading online reviews to figure out how to get help for my alcoholism. ST had some poor Yelp reviews but I had a feeling about it and an addiction therapist I saw had heard incredible testimonials from patients who went there. I called ST and it was a seamless, supportive, and easy process getting me in the doors within a few days. Being in rehab, I quickly saw that people were angry and looking to find fault with everything in what can only be one of the hardest phases of their life. A lot of people wanted to be mad and righteous. That is how I now interpret the reviews on here. I am sorry for they didn't find what I did in Sierra Tucson: the absolute best place to get sober, learn practical skills on how to cope with my anxiety/depression, find an inner peace I have never known, and ultimately, find myself again. Here's what happens: when you arrive at Sierra Tucson, you enter "Desert Oasis," which patients lovingly/begrudgingly call "the tank." It's where you detox from whatever substance you are on with close supervision or do an intake for mental health, eating disorders, etc. You stay here 1-3 days and pretty much sleep, eat, get massages (!) and read. It's not as scary as some people make it sound. I was grateful for the peace and knowing I was safe. Then you go to your lodge, which are assigned by gender and the reason for your stay. I stayed in Morning Sun which is an all female lodge for addiction (and some women on the mental health tracks that didn't want to stay in the co-ed lodge). It is beautiful, comfortable, and, although dependent on who is there at the time, a wonderful community. Every morning you wake up and attend an intention meeting, and every night, a gratitude meeting. These were some of my favorite parts of the experience. During the day you attend a series of classes that are aligned with the reasons for your stay. Unlike an all 12-step program, Sierra Tucson introduces those in the addiction track to modalities like SMART Recovery and Refuge Recovery. Other classes include CBD/DBT training and emotional regulation. You get to learn all about the science behind what you are experiencing and how to use that knowledge to change. You also go to group therapy where you work with 5-7 other people in a close knit group who suffer the same affliction as you. I will never forget these sessions and the people I met there. Outside of classes you practice spirituality with nighttime meditation workshops, walks in the desert, Tibetan bowls, or everyone's favorite Saturday night drum circle. I found that the best part of Sierra Tucson was their combination of science and spirituality. You get balance here and the opportunity to figure out which road to recovery is the best for you. No one is forcing god or medication on you. They simply show you the many resources at your disposal. One of the most unique and powerful aspects of Sierra Tucson is Family Week. On week 3, your loved ones can come to visit. The dialogue is mediated by top notch family therapists who ensure safe/healthy communication. My family is forever stronger because of it, and how we communicate is 1000x better. It's important to know that treatment is just the first step in the life-long process of recovery. I thought once I got to treatment, I would be set. But really treatment is your foundation. It's moment you say "this is real and happening now. I am committed to change." You learn so much about yourself and how to live without the habits/mindsets that have been dragging you down. For me, it would have been impossible to get sober without this foundation. It's something I've built upon each and every day since. Sierra Tucson reset me in a way that allowed me to become whole again, to have hope, and to break free of the cycle of addition. I was slowly killing myself (spiritually and physically) before I came in. But they took care of me in a place that felt like home and that I will always carry in my heart. I am forever grateful. Talk to the people at admissions if you are considering going here. They are more than willing to lower treatment costs to make it work for you. Luckily my insurance covered almost all of it, but when coverage cut off around day 23 (which often happens!), Sierra Tucson gave me a discount for the rest of my time there. Admissions warned me about insurance company's tendency to do this before I was admitted so my family was prepared. Don't be scared. Millions of people suffer every day from the exact same thing you do. You are not alone and your life is worth the fight. I hope you find solace in this incredible treatment center, or wherever else you decide to go. Your life will get bigger and bigger and nothing will stop your light. read more

Only a month ago they changed their policy to not allow Service Animals in violation of ADA access requirements. The call buttons aren't within reach of the beds and they think a scooter replaces a service animal when a scooter can't come help you off the ground if you fall when walking. Completely unreasonable accommodation. So they avoid doing the work of educating people to leave service animals alone in their policies and instead violate the sacred bond between service animals and their handlers increasing the emotional and financial burden on their patients to an unreasonable degree. Overall the staff is kind and caring and even supportive of service animals. The risk management department is trying use the cover up of saying that it's important to break the bond between handler and service animal for you own good because it's an external dependency, like they haven't read the expensive research on how healing animals are for trauma and anxiety. But they'll bring in horses and dogs for therapy time. Completely backwards and against most of the documentation that supports healing for PTSD, just cause it feels too challenging for them to do the work. One person there was rejected only hours before her arrival for her service animal and had to find last minute emergency accommodations with a stranger for her animal. Horrible. To top it off they lost my phone for 45 mins when I had a scheduled call for the sale of my house to pay their bill. They don't secure the items they won't let you keep with you in the 'holding tank' prior to moving you to 'residential'. There's a locker room with coded lockers that are never locked and the whole staff has access to, so your stuff is not safe. There are amazing people here that this isn't a job and they are willing to go the extra mile to help you when their systems and process dictates stupid decisions. I feel bad for the nurses because they see us the most and are given the least advocacy power. Maybe if they listened to their nurses they would have less problems figuring out what their patient's need. The body work people are phenomenal. They have a nurse with a doctorate who demands to be called Dr. Padilla, don't let them assign you to her, she's arrogant, condescending, and considers having a motorcycle a suicide attempt. I heard Dr. Pritchard doesn't even believe in the extreme dissociation and amnesia that can happen with severe PTSD. If you for some strange reason chose to come here make sure you know how to advocate for yourself. The Patient Advocates are 12 step sponsors with no accreditation. read more

No star rating from me. I went for complex PTSD, depression and anxiety. I was kept in the locked down area for an extra day. There were physical and verbal assaults happening to several of the females in the community. Most of the assaults while I was there were done by ONE male. At least 12 people had filed reports against this male but he was kept in the community rather than being sent back to the locked down area. Other people had been transferred back to lock down for less. I felt so unsafe that I slept with a chair against my door. The staff PA kept increasing my medication instead of moving this person. I FINALLY left the facility three weeks in on my six plus week treatment plan. And the facility is extremely short staffed to the point of NOT EVEN HAVING A DOCTOR on staff at all times! It costs $3200 a night for treatment and they are short staffed. The facility should have a better patient to staff ratio than they did. Accept less patients if you CANNOT KEEP SAFE!!! read more

I'm sad to leave a [mostly] bad review, but I'm hoping this feedback gets taken into consideration and is used towards creating a better facility. It is the only rehab facility I've been to, so I don't have anything to compare it to. I also was there is 2014 so it's likely changed since (not sure for better or worse though!). 1) I'm actually an RN -- when I checked in I brought a new $200 book that is used widely by good psychiatrists called "Stahl's Essential Psychopharmacology." I wanted to know what meds they were giving me and what they did. That's called "informed consent" in the medical field and it's the right of every patient. Anyway! They not only took it from me upon checking in, but they also didn't give it back when I checked out. Also, when I checked in, it was like 1am and I was EXHAUSTED from a long flight and emotional stress, yet they made me do the entire check-in interview right then. It was just unnecessary. I had no substance use history at all (rehab is more than for drugs turns out). 2) I had sleep paralysis when they changed my medications (if anyone has had the misfortune of experiencing this - my greatest condolences. It literally feels like a demon nightmare where you're paralyzed but AWAKE). I went to the nurses when I broke out of it and they did nothing. No calls made. Nothing. I just stayed up all night sitting in the foyer because I was terrified. You can't quit meds cold-turkey people. And I'm not talking illegal substances -- I actually went for depression/trauma. Again, no history of ANY substance use/abuse (grew up Mormon). 3) The root of all my problems came from a diagnosis they didn't check for OR catch on to. I'm female and autistic. There are degrees of autism and women mask symptoms. I figured it out myself years later and even tried calling Sierra Tucson to tell them it's something they need to be privy to, as the 2 people I was closest to at Sierra Tucson discovered long after ST that they are also autistic (and not checked/diagnosed there). The person on the phone told me they'd let someone know (hmmm, sure....). 4) Ugh, so much group therapy and so little individual therapy/services! It's such a bummer. It's VERY IMPORTANT that people who are highly sensitive (so all of us with trauma/PTSD) are not doing regular group therapy where you listen to horrible stories of what each other has suffered. It's EXTREMELY triggering. And you just have to sit there and sponge it in. There is very little one-on-one anything. I feel like to heal you need a lot of one-on-one. Or at least teach us stuff that we can do on our own? Other than deep breathing? Deep breathing doesn't work for everyone btw. 5) I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia prior and I was just consistently under-medicated there and masking my suffering as best I could. When I finally voiced my needs, they were ignored. I know it's a stereotyped addict thing to be dramatic and needy (honestly I can't say how true this is, literally no idea), but that is NOT ME. When I say I need help, it means I needed help A LONG TIME AGO. I remember I came in and showed the nurses my whole body was shaking in pain, involuntarily. That was ignored. Just really sad. I do want to give a shout out to my lovely psychiatrist there -- Tena Moyer -- (not on staff page anymore - maybe not there anymore?) -- she gave me some validation/knowledge that I still think about. The other person who I tell so many people about because she was the most intuitive beautiful person and was the one and only person who truly helped me heal in some ways (I only got 2 sessions with her, sadly) was an EMDR therapist who was older, petite, calm, and just an angel. I was so unkind to her at first and she was so kind, patient, and compassionate. I wish I could thank her for all the help she has given to everyone in her life and give her a hug. Which means a lot coming from someone autistic lol. If anyone knows her name feel free to clue me in. read more

I went to Sierra Tuscon treatment center last year. It saved my life. Was it perfect, I don't think any place can be perfect for all people. In the beginning I was very rude to most staff, I had meltdowns many times, but I felt safe. I got the right medication I need at this time in my life. Everyone was very pleasant and nice, I might not have seen it at the time. I was unhappy about a lot of things but I can see now how much I needed to go through my emotions and self pity to start to heal. I learned to self advocate. I can't wish for a better place to be safe during my beginning of my healing. With a step down program in California and a strong support at home I am having a normal functioning life. I could wish for a better exit day than I had, but at the same time, it made me stronger, I learned I can handle things that comes up. If I ever need a treatment center again, I would definitely choose Sierra Tuscon. read more

If you are a licensed professional, do not go here. If you disagree with your primary therapist's or psychiatrist's assessment of who you are, and decide to seek treatment in your own state, they will vindictively call your licensing board. I am a licensed psychologist who was treated by a 'therapist' by someone who a) forgot the relationship is the most important part of treatment, b) threatened me and called me names, c) didn't listen to me, the patient there for trauma, and d) when I said I was leaving (a week longer than I initially agreed to due to the threats), and seeking treatment in my own state, the therapist felt it her 'duty' to call the board - despite me continuing treatment, never practicing impaired or unethically in my life, and, most importantly, her never once being able to predict the future. The psychiatrist also literally told me he knew the research surrounding the best and most effective treatment for my previous neurodiverse diagnosis, and said he wasn't going to go along with that treatment, for some unexplained reason... They're so arrogant into thinking they know better than the patients on who they are as a person (what they call 'the experts on [your/the patient's] own life'), better than peer-reviewed research, and how to predict the future. If you go, don't tell them what you do unless you want your life to be harder upon your 'release'. There are some GREAT specialty therapists and resident therapists, however. But stay away if you hold a license in your profession. This is literally why there's a stigma in seeking treatment, and they're feeding right into it. read more

Sierra Tucson was recommended because of their holistic approach and their abundance of alternative healing methods. I was assured repeatedly that my physical would be addressed through Acupuncture, different massage modalities and on going physical therapy. However upon meeting a doctor named Lerner who ran the pain clinic he proceeded to negate just about everything their admission people had said. If I had done more research I would have uncovered all the long standing AG complaints. The civil suits, including malpractice and wrongful deaths. Do your due diligence - google Tucson Better Business and Sierra Tucson outstanding civil cases. This place is bad news. read more

If you go in with the mentality that any program only works as well as you work it and that no program is perfect, then it gets 4 stars. I went in hell-bent on ending my life and came out without any suicidal thoughts anymore. It's a super bougie place and is definitely expensive but they will scholarship if needed. HEADS UP: IF you are being forced by a loved one to attend and are not going to commit to your self do not come here. This place isn't for those who have been given an ultimatum to go to treatment, for those who are coming in with a negative attitude or for those bratty bitchy people who can't handle some tough love. SIERRA TUCSON IS AMAZING. They will not have the magic pill or take away your suffering over night YOU MUST PUT IN THE WORK. They give you the tools to find your self again, to guide you. If you are looking for a quick fix and a bandage go some where else. Sierra Tucson is one of the most amazing places I have had the pleasure of being apart of. The most annoying thing was, those entitled, snobby too good to admit their own faults and do the work. Those who didn't give shit about being there and caused nothing but drama. Throwing fits when something didn't go their way or being rude to staff trying to blame them for things that they had no control over. A lot of what I heard were complaints about phone time and not being able to attend lunch with so and so. YOU ARE IN TREATMENT, HELLO! This isn't high school , get over your self. TOP THINGS TO KNOW: You WILL go to COPPER SKY. This is a LOCKED building. You are NOT locked in your room. As far as they know you are threat to your self and others UNTIL you are MEDICAL CLEARED. This is what is referred to as "level 1" or an "inpatient unit" THIS IS NOT A HOSPITAL. Extremely thankful for the admit person I spoke to on the phone before coming. Broke everything down for me. They went step by step with me what to expect upon arrival and that's what I experienced. You will have your belongings gone threw. Your electronics will be taken. Pee tests ,Breathalyzers, NONE invasive gown searches( not stripped searched at all) will happen. GET OVER IT. There is no way around it, deal with it. Yes people detox in there BUT it's also for you to check in. Most likely you will be there for 4-5 days DEPENDING ON YOU. Look at it this way, when you go to a new provider of some kind, did you just walk in and expect them to know you right away ? NO! Copper sky is for that, they must understand WHO YOU ARE. Yes they ask you 100 times are you safe, do you want to hurt your self blah blah AGAIN ....You're in a treatment center. You want the help, deal with THEIR process. YOU WILL HAVE A ROOM MATE- AGAIN deal with it. Not the end of the world, if your in treatment, like I was, that's the least of your issues. The staff is not afraid to tell you how it is. If you are rude and disrespectful they will let you know, I mean I wouldn't want a stranger yelling in my face because they can't have their phone right then and there. The food could be better but then again I love junk food and none of that is here lol All in all , do YOUR treatment, focus on YOUR reason " why" not Joe shmo next you . YOU. Listen to the PROFESSIONALS, speak your mind in a respectful manner. Talk it out, give in to the process. Sit back, relax and enjoy the ride. Also,DON'T BE A DICK. I went for their 4-6 days evaluation program to find out what was wrong with me. The first day was spent sitting in a waiting room for over 8 hours with no food, room, access to luggage for reading material, etc. I was finally checked in that night. The rooms are shabby - think Super 8 with no phone or TV - the food is so-so, definitely not gourmet, the grounds are pretty. I was given some tests and told at the end of the 6th day I needed medication and had to stay another 7 days or they would release me with no prescriptions or the report on my stay. I stupidly stayed. They didn't know what to do with me. During those 7 days I had one massage. The whole time I saw a psychiatrist once and a psychologist twice. The other services were "booked" "out sick" "not for me" or some other excuse. Everyone I talked to was new at Sierra and most had no idea what was going on. Most I talked to had never heard of the evaluation program. The psych tech sat at the desk and played computer games, often while out of control patients lay on the floor sobbing or screaming. My roommate left the room every night and was gone most of the night. Pot smoking at the smoking area outside. I do not recommend this place. read more

I still have nightmares about this place. Don't go to Sierra Tucson for an eating disorder. Their ED program is not well developed. There are no ED lectures or discussion groups. So for a month I went to AA, co dependency, and 12 step meetings...UM this is a $50K program and what the hell am I actually paying for? The Sierra Tucson staff as a whole is not sensitive to ED triggers and have no idea how to respect ED patients. Mentally, my eating disorder got worse because of this place. Only thing I got out of treatment, is to appreciate the outside world and never go back!! Also, the campus is capital D-pressing. I've never seen so much sand and cactus plants in my life! You go there to heal/recover and look forward to a better future, when you're surrounded by the freakin' desert! Maybe it's just me, but that's the opposite of a therapeutic enviornment. I have friends who went to Sierra Tucson for other diseases (alcoholism, drug addiction, depression..) who found this program very useful. I however did not have a similar experience. Note- I don't want this review to deter people who need help. This might be the right place for someone suffering from drug addiction. I do not recommend this place for someone suffering from Binge Eating Disorder or mood-based disorders who might require more psychiatric therapy. I visited a family member here. I was determined for her to stick it out in her program despite her complaints, but I changed my mind when I visited. I was so disappointed that this place doesn't provide the services advertised on their website and couldn't give my family member the individualized treatment she needed. Based on my observations, I do not recommend Sierra Tuscon for eating disorders, specifically binge eating disorders for the following reasons: (1) Lack of individualized treatment: She was required to attend lectures on drug addiction, and yet had few sessions pertaining to the reason she was there. (2) Lack of one-on-one therapy: in the 11 days that she was there, she did not have the opportunity to meet with her assigned therapist one-on-one. (3) They didn't know her: the 2 times family members visited on the weekends, there was not a contact available who could speak to or even pull up a file regarding her treatment plan. (4) False advertising: The services listed on the website are not what is provided. The website lists specific therapies that were not offered to my family member, and when she went to patient advocacy to request them, they said they'd "make a note" and never got back to her after a week. (5) Lack of outdoor activity: despite the pretty setting, the only sitting areas available outside are for smoking. I think this might be geared towards people with chemical addiction, but it was off-putting for a non-smoker. The air outside smells like smoke. Despite the website advertising hiking as an activity, my family member didn't have an opportunity to hike in the 11 days that she was there. (6) Lecture-based learning: much of her day was scheduled with power-point lectures in a classroom setting. It depends on what kind of learner you are, but for someone who needs more interactive experiences to learn, this was not very effective. (7) There was only 1 other person there for a binge eating disorder, and I think it would have been helpful for her to be an environment with people suffering from the same condition. This isn't a comprehensive list of our complaints, but just some of the main reasons why I and my family supported her decision to leave. I tried to contact Sierra Tuscon through their "Contact Us" portal with these complains and they didn't respond. read more

Terrible place they just want your money up front. They just give you a bunch of drugs that aren't helpful. There's a tremendous amount of downtime and there's nothing to do after 4:00 or 5:00. They had no TV or newspapers to read. Most of the people there are for drug detoxification and our young people. They are completely disorganized one person doesn't know what the other person is doing. If you come for food 2 minutes after it's supposed to close they tell you it's all been thrown away. The cafeteria staff are not friendly. The food is okay as they do have to serve 130 or 40 people.. after a week they let you use your cell phone for 45 minutes. Although the word is open they take away your nail files electric toothbrush electric razor. I would stay away from this place no matter what problem you have. If you decide to leave earlier than your recommended stay they punish you by holding your luggage and make you go through hoops and Ladders so that you miss your flight out of Tucson.
