As a law enforcement officer who struggled with alcohol, it was hard to admit I needed help. I did some research and found that Sierra Tucson had a Red, White, and Blue program. This program tailors to those in law enforcement, the military, veterans, and first responders. This program made a HUGE difference in my recovery journey. Being in a group that understands what it is like to be a first responder and the trauma that comes along with it was amazing. Bill Reynolds, who runs the program, is nothing short of incredible. All of the staff in the Red, White, and Blue program are caring, honest, and helpful. If it weren't for Sierra Tucson and this program, I wouldn't still be sober. I HIGHLY recommend this program for all military and first responders who struggle with trauma, addiction, or anything that effects their daily life. read more

A disturbingly backwards "treatment" facility. Didn't seem to help my family member and caused a lot of pain and stress in the process (and cost 60,000$). First of they don't actually offer many of the services they claim too. Nothing is individualized, once you get there you'll find that it's pretty cookie cutter for everyone. Once the patient was in treatment they encouraged her to stay for longer than originally planned. They then recommended she go to step down facility that just wasn't right for her, seemingly only because they had a relationship with their owner. Even more Sierra Tuscon practices a form of family "therapy" that most doctors disavowed a long time ago. The type of heads on confrontation (without room for both sides to speak) is just not helpful for most people, especially in a public setting. I went to ST for alcohol abuse. This was my first time in a rehab facility so I don't have anything to compare it to. For the most part the staff was good. I had a new therapist who was okay. The therapist give awards to patients who are doing their work and making progress. Unfortunately, some people got awarded for bad behavior while others who were doing everything they were supposed to do didn't get the special incentives. I accidentally left some money behind in the safe. It was extremely difficult to get my money back. It took months! I had to stay an extra day in the holding tank because they forgot to make my appointment to see the doctor to okay my release! The "tank" is not a nice experience. Very boring unless you want the TV blaring all night long! ST could give you more to do in the tank to help the time go by. I came in at night and was very scared and I didn't know what to expect. I didn't get my belongings until the next morning. I finally asked to get my pajamas and my tooth brush late that night. I feel when they admit you they should explain more of what is going to happen instead of I felt like I was thrown in with the wolves!!! The nurses in the initial holding tank were very good and were good about monitoring you. I would be aware of the blood test they offer you in the holding tank!!! Supposedly, it is going to give you a lot of information on what drugs will work for you and which won't. I didn't find out much at all with this test. What they don't tell you is that after you get home you get a bill for $6,000 for the test!!! Now luckily my insurance covered my stay but not the blood test. I don't have an extra $6,000 to cover that! Be aware especially when you first arrive and don't understand what is going on! The women that worked in the lodges were not very friendly for the most part. They could have been a little bit more sympathetic! It ended up costing me a lot more money to get home because they wouldn't let me leave one day earlier to go home with my husband. They said I needed to process more. Well, my therapist was gone the next day anyway and I didn't end up doing anything but waste time until I left at around noon. It wasn't even a ful day! It cost me a lot more money and a very long drive to get home from the airport, which all could have been avoided! The best therapist Matt ended up leaving. I am under the impression he was let go. Unfortunately, Matt was the nicest most upbeat person there and would take time to talk to you. I was so relieved to have him for my first class when I got out of the tank. I knew then that I would be okay! I wanted to thank him personally but I wasn't able to. I am six months sober now. ST is a good place to go. I understand not all places are perfect. It's sad that this place used to be the number one treatment center in the country. Now it's nothing but unhelpful policies that hurt rather than help. Someone at the top who is creating these policies like destroying media time for business owners needs to go to a psyche ward. You're better off going to a more affordable rehab center. Thank you Charlie B for your posting. I'm sorry you had this experience. My mother who is in treatment for the first time is still there with a DC date of next week. I am in the field of mental health and substance abuse and referred her there. She has had the WORST treatment I have ever encountered. The clinicians are inexperienced and ethics are sketchy- the family program has literally "split" our family and those unable to attend the family were given the guilt trip and no family help or assistance if not able to take 5 days off from work to attend. The communication is the worst I have witnessed at any program. The best part is- wanting to prescirbe her Adderal- yes, both addictive AND she has a heart condtion. Staff has talked badly to my mother about me due to my involvment (consisting of flying out to meet her one day for support (considered innaporpriate) and (scheduling her aftercare appointments- which they ASKED me to do, never told my mother, and complained about interfering. Right now my mother is very vulernable and I am truly terrified for her well being. With so many great programs that likely cost the same or less- don't waste your energy, time, of finances into this program. read more

Mixed Feelings: I just found out when I went for family week that my husband has been very happy with his stay at ST. He has felt like it has been superior to his prior hospitalizations in that it felt more like a resort than a hospital, and he felt very supported and cared for every step of the way. He's really had a wonderful experience. Time will tell if he can continue what he has learned after he leaves, which is of course the ultimate goal. As a family member, I experienced a different reality. I wasn't notified of how my husband was doing at all until I took several steps to find out who his doctors were, and I called the switchboard and requested their phone extensions and left a message threatening to remove my husband from the facility, which got a reaction, I got a phone call back from his doctors saying that it wasn't a good idea. Since this was not my loved ones first hospitalization and I'm used to having to advocate for him in order for anything to happen at crappy mental hospitals, I had no way of knowing whether this was the same or different than all the other stays. I would have preferred to have been reached out to by someone on staff letting me know how my husband was doing in the first 21 days that he was there. I didn't receive any phone calls from ST. And I was receiving desperate phone calls from my husband that he wasn't feeling well and he was having trouble sleeping and I didn't know if that was being addressed or not. It was many a sleepless night wondering if this was just another useless mental hospital. When I went for family week, overall it was very full of information which most families would absolutely benefit from, however my experience was that it was a one size fits all type family week program and the assumption is that if you are at family week then you must be a controlling enabler. And so I was treated with disdain and shamed at times for being an enabler. I am aware that I do have enabling tendencies from my own issues and I have been in therapy for 13 years, however I felt worse when I left because of being shamed. But this being the 7th hospitalization, what wasn't considered was my caregiver burnout and fatigue as well as the long road that we've been on to finally find a hospital that treats patients like humans. So in summary, my experience as a family member was not as good as my husbands experience as a patient. But does my experience really matter? I guess in the big picture, not really. read more

Upon reading the reviews of Sierra Tuscon I was surprised to see so many poor reviews. Sierra Tuscon was one of the better things to happen to our family. My first experience was family week for my Dad. They used therapeutic techniques that actually help. This was in 1991. I already had ten years sober by then. Suffice it to say a lot of excess baggage from a high stress family was left in the desert. Our roads got clearer ever since. Mostly the focus was on helping people resolve their core issues mainly of grief and loss. It was heavy work but well worth it. I camped out one night and heard coyotes talking. I couldn't begin to explain the level of gross negligence on the part of Sierra Tucson and the entire staff. I will begin by saying we did not know that Sierra had been purchased by Acadia Health Care and is no longer the wonderful treatment center it once was. My husband sat through two "speaker meetings " a week at a cost of 1k to us only to learn that they were actually Drug Reps encouraging patients to take the drugs that "saved there lives". As soon as the meeting was over the psychiatric team was ready to administer meds. The food was worse than cafeteria food and we were told the Chefs had been fired. The equine therapy does not exist, yes they have a horse there but that's it. I have since learned Sierra Tucson has several pending law suits for wrongful deaths and has settled on two of them. Trust me when I tell you DO NOT SEND A LOVED ONE HERE. read more

I just saw an ad on TV for ST and thought I'd put my truth out there for anyone interested. I found ST in 2003 and suggested it to my ex who is bipolar. This place is run by idiots who don't know what they are doing. They lied to me and made promises they did not keep. They diagnosed my ex as "depressed" and "love addicted" and, while in their care, they allowed her boyfriend to communicate with her. Like giving an alcoholic a beer. If you need help, please find another facility where they have respect for the patients and their families. read more

Trigger Warning: metoo, corruption. I want to thank Yelp (or perhaps it was ST's online PR person) for deleting my last review, arguing that I had no personal experience with this business. It's true that I hid my true feelings behind a mask of intellectualism and clinical objectivity in an effort to remain fair-minded. Nothing around my personal experience with this organization was fair. This organization has been serving our family for over a decade. We had known it to be a different sort of place in the beginning. When it came to my attention last October that there were repeated episodes of abuses of power, abuses of women...I chose to leave the situation in more experienced hands by reporting it to the Arizona Medical Board. It was not an easy choice. I was attacked by many. However, I was upset too so I did some attacking myself, and that wasn't fair of me. I had such optimism about the integrity and compassion of the staff there. That though mistakes were made, when push came to shove that they would ultimately take accountability and do the right thing to protect future generations of patients. The real shock came when I received the letter from the AZ Medical Board stating there was no evidence in their investigation to substantiate the claims (how many times have women heard that one though)....on the same exact day they announced their $16.5 million dollar expansion. The corruption of not only the individuals I personally trusted but also an organization that I believed in for years has broken my heart in a million ways. Robert- you point out so many problems that could be behind my awful experience at Sierra Tucson in the fall of 2009. I'm no pharmacist, but luckily I knew enough about medications and the appearance of various generics to catch the nurses on the multiple occasions I was given the wrong medication(s). However, that isn't my primary complaint about this place. I went for treatment of PTSD due to sexual trauma, as well as chronic pain treatment. Their solution was to place me on high doses of oxycontin and xanax (among a bunch of other meds, of course), so that "I would be able to participate in the therapy sessions". I was excused (or excluded?) from any of the physical therapy requirements of the programs on the basis of my pain condition. I was told by one of the physicians that until I accepted jesus christ as my lord and savior, I was never going to get well. Well, the end result of all this is that my family wasted a boatload of $$$ so that I could become hooked on Rx drugs, and have nothing but hazy memories of therapy sessions, massages, and the Kiva. It took me a long time to recover from the sexual trauma, but I shouldn't have had the added complication of having to realize on my own that I'd become an addict and was self-medicating to hide from all the emotional pain. Great strategy, people; really professional and sound clinical judgement. If only I could get all that money back- and the wasted years!! Please think twice about seeking help for yourself or a loved one from this facility, if actual recovery is your goal! read more

This place is disgraceful and unorganized. My daughters medications that were taken at admission have YET to be sent home and she has tried calling 5 days in a row to get this sorted out to no avail. Scheduling forgot to put multiple appts on her schedule, such as somatic experiencing. She was here for secondary pain and only saw the pain doctor once on her final week. Her therapist had a flat affect and did not know how to provide therapy. Multiple people had complained about her already and switched out of her groups. My daughter tried, but was unable to. Continuing care did nothing about finding my daughter appropriate aftercare for her case. Highly unorganized place. Only great thing was the clients/friends she made. Look into The Refuge in Florida. I've heard MUCH better things. Very unfortunate to report all this. read more

developed an eye twitch during my stay due to anxiety-provoking staff.. left mid july and it's still going on. when i first arrived i wanted to step outside before admission to make a (final) phone call and a 400 pound woman was chasing me around as if i was trying to escape. while i was having a panic attack the staff told me to be quiet because it was "interrupting the serenity of the lodge." one of the staff members, Stephanie, told me she was willing to lose her job to beat my ass. another staff member whose name i am blanking on would smoke weed during the smoke breaks in copper sky and constantly talked about all the drugs she does at raves. staff member, oscar, got in my face and screamed at me that i was too stupid to spell "verbal abuse." told the psychiatrist, pinky, i wanted the natural path/didnt want any new meds in my regimen so she offered me zoloft. was partially admitted for eating disorder and they "let me" skip all meals; lost 14 pounds in 3 weeks. was having a nervous breakdown and while talking to a residential therapist she told me that her shift was ending so i had to hurry up. if you send your s/o there expect to be cheated on; everyone is hooking up with each other. if you're a younger woman expect to be preyed on by men of all ages. had to stop doing yoga because the men in RWB made comments about my flexibility- for DAYS. overall this place is a dump physically and structurally, no wonder there have multiple been suicides on camp. read more

This review is not relevant to the treatment and therapies received, but is about the billing and payment practices of the facility. If you look at the fine print on the financial agreement there is a clause that states that any insurance payments received will be applied to any discounts that the facility gave for the treatment. For example, if a $10,000 discount was given for the program, any insurance payments from the insurance company (up to the discount amount) would be applied to that discount and not returned to the responsible party. I would encourage anyone to read the agreement carefully. Also, no where in the agreement does it state that money for unused days (early discharge) would also be applied to a discount. Again, buyer beware. I feel that the way this was handled is unethical. I might add that the facility was very responsive and willing to discus things during the intake process, but not so much afterwards. I believe they are doing some good work there in terms of treatment, but the financial dealings with the facility have a lot to be desired. One final comment is that the folks doing the intake do not seem to be trained psychologists. I had the sense that they acted more like sales people than folks who were trying to find out if the place was right for the individual. Just my two-cents. read more

I called asking for help and their late night phone line was either an answering matching or a complete idiot that had no idea how to help anyone...It is amazing! I even wanted to donate money to help improve their establishment and could not get a hold of anyone with a brain. Be very wary of this place.There are many employees that are married in high positions that take care of their spouses. It is insane how this place is run. I can and will give names. As an Alumni, I have asked for support of which I have received nothing.The 365 program is a complete JOKE! They do not care about those who have left! Sierra Tuscon only wants to receive a check or whatever your insurance is willing to pay and then they throw you out like a piece of trash! Mike Gaziano is a fraud...the whole time of therapy he reads through a power point with an idiot microphone. Completely staged and documented. He emphasizes on family week while he brags about his own addictions. Victor Gilbert is a complete self centered prick who likes to listen to himself talk the entire time while reading power point presentations. You are sent there for recovery. They are only interested in your $$. Kimberly C. is the one you really have to worry about. She is the Corporate Biatch who could care less about the patients but more about the $$. I hade a couple of run ins with her and she throws the patient bill of rights out the window.. She also is married to one of the therapists. I was in the ED program for 10 days in 2006. I left AMA because of how terrible the staff was. I did not feel safe or cared for and at times felt downright disrespected. - The former ED director, Dr. Carolyn Coker Ross, was TERRIBLE. She'd set up meeting times in her office and I'd wait outside the door for her for sometimes up to 45 minutes before giving up and heading back to my room/building. Then she'd call the staff in the building, upset that I wasn't there! When she did actually meet with me, she took personal calls from her kids each time (and no, they were not important calls). During weigh-ins, she made me undress and made critical comments about my body. While Dr. Ross is no longer at Sierra Tucson, she is an author and still in private practice. - More than half the time, the leaders of the groups did not show up and we, the clients, just sat in a room for a while before giving up and leaving. Totally irresponsible! - I was given strange supplements. I'll refrain from bashing it by name, but after I left, I continued taking it and ended up getting extremely sick with eosinophilic gastroenteritis. The doctors told me it was from the digestive supplement and to immediately stop taking it. My GI system recovered once I stopped it. - It was co-ed and there were people "hooking up" all the time at night. Also, there were sex addicts there and on at least 2 occasions, I felt very unsafe. One time, I was sitting next to a man in some sort of 12-step group and the group leader was a tall/larger woman and he leaned close to me and said, "Wow, she's large. I prefer them smaller." (I was very thin at that time and it was SO uncomfortable and creepy!) - They made me buy a bunch of useless and stupid books at their bookstore, at no small cost. So in summary, I would avoid this place, especially the ED program. It was a joke at best, downright harmful and terrifying in reality. If you really must go to a residential program for an ED, go to one that has a strong program. This overpriced, co-ed, 12-step-based program is bad news. BTW, when I signed the papers to check out AMA, that's when they actually were willing to meet with me and they were sure to warn me I'd die if I left. 11 years later, I'm alive and well, Sierra Tucson staff. Are they direct? YES! Are they caring? YES! Do people relax and lash out and return after writing bad reviews (I am most definitely not speaking of myself) Yes! BUT (a word the word we are not supposed to use) I would and will go back whenever I want or need to. I currently don't want to go back because I am grieving and need help and don't know where to turn to and know my therapist will help if I call because they know, that every patient, wishes they never had to be a patient, but life's journey took me there and at least I know I can trust them. Did I want to be there HA!! NO! Actually, was more of a legal issue, but wasn't so much . . . I learned so much about myself it was amazing. These revues are from ppl that didn't like schedules and routine and being told what to do ‍ Well guess what, I was literally drugged and had to be in this program out of pocket and it was the best worst thing I ever did. Opened Pandora's box . . . that's what I'm most upset about! I'm upset that I learned too much about myself. 2 days in . . . y'all didn't get out of detox I'm guessing? Give it a try. It's beyond exhausting, tryst and believed. I had to be here and embraced it, day 1, DAY 1 . . . and once u just give therapy a chance, it's so insightful. All the horses, the group bounding, the friends I made, before and after therapy was crucial. My experience in ST in January, 2017, was amazing. I'm saddened by the reports from people who did not experience the help and support that I did. The campus is beautiful, and large enough that you don't feel confined in a prison like in so many other treatment centers. The food was about as good as it could possibly be given the scale of the operation - and I'm saying it was good. I believe, that a person's experience depends upon the attitude of the person. There is SO much at ST to learn and do, therapists and counsleors everywhere, but if you want to gripe about everything, and not do the work, I guess you are free to do that and give a negative review. ST is the Rolls Royce of treatment centers, period. Make the most of your time, and your experience will be as positive as mine. read more

It's really a shame Sierra Tucson LIED to me about what treatments were available and I don't have a positive story myself, them telling me they had Sex Addiction services and going to find out I wasted 4 straight days for them to figure out where the hell they were going to send me to ACTUALLY receive Sex Addiction services was a waste, and I don't wish anyone to go through the unprofessionalism that I have experienced. I'd also like to point out that they'll give you a customer complaint phone number on Yelp, but even those intentions will leave the staff confused as to why you're calling. Seriously, don't waste your time chancing a positive experience here or even telling them how they wronged you. Sierra Tucson doesn't care. I went Sierra Tucson after getting a glowing review from a family friend and psychologist. Boy was I surprised. This place is nothing like it is depicted on their website and much worse they should not even still hold an accreditation from JAYCO. I'm a pharmacist and have been for over 40 years. The pharmacy system there is something out of the 1950's or earlier. The "nurses" dispensing the drugs are from service that hires out such type help- so beware. I had EIGHT (8) major drug dispensing errors on me that I caught and one could have literally been fatal. The staff there in the super-structure are employees of ST owned by CRC, a big player in methadone clinics. They bought this center from a family that had built up a highly regarded reputation and appears to be milking that reputation for all its worth. The clinicians and therapists are in large part contracted in for their services and not employees. They also are upset if you take time to ask about the management team from CRC and many have resigned over the last year or so. I was there from late February 2011 until the 2nd week of March when I checked myself out do to all the screw ups on medications and many other issues I could write a book about.. The day I checked out 2 other medical related people, both nurses checked themselves out also. THIS PLACE HAS SOME VERY SERIOUS PROBLEMS. I also would rank them a zero if possible, but am just lucky I am still alive and only out $45000 for a lesson well learned. The negative ratings you read, even though hard to believe, are more than likely true from what I saw there. Some news agency should do an undercover investigation of this place and expose them for what they are. AVOID SIERRA TUSCON AND INVESTIGATE OTHER CENTERS. I personally notified the Arizona Board of Pharmacy and the Arizona State Board of Medical Examiners over the things that happened while I was there and am in the process of filing a complaint with JAYCO the accreditation association that approves hospitals for compliance. I attended ST a few years ago to get treatment for severe PTSD and was there for approximately three months. While some of the care I received was great (Liz the equine therapist, Joann, David, and Michelle the individual/group therapists, Maureen the EMDR therapist, Shannon the RT, and many more truly are excellent clinicians), being there did more harm to me than good ultimately. A very unfortunate sentinel event happened while I was there involving one of the other clients, and the way the leadership team responded was beyond disappointing. All of a sudden the treatment I was getting changed significantly and I was shortly told I had to leave with no treatment plan or follow up care in place. I was told that if I did not go along with what they were telling me that they would have me committed at a local hospital, and as I am not from Arizona I had to scramble to make flight arrangements to get home with little warning and no support from family or friends who didn't have enough of a heads up to make arrangements to come meet me. At that point my insurance had stopped covering my stay and I was paying out of pocket, so the change wasn't due to insurance coverage ending. I can happily say that I am now doing much better, but the experience of being at Sierra Tucson negatively impacted my mental health significantly. read more

I attended ST in Spring of 2007 and it was a transformational experience. I was recommended to attend ST by my trusted and long time therapist. After reading through the positive and negative experiences in these reviews it is once again a reminder of how grateful I am for the treatment I received while there. I too was insane when I walked through the doors, it wasn't easy but I knew I was there because everything else wasn't work anymore. I eventually woke up from my "nightmare" and the fog cleared, I started to become willing take suggestions. Most of the staff are in recovery for everything that the patients were there for and repeat customers of ST proved to me that action is the only way out. My group therapist still checks in with me on my anniversary and is key to my recovery. ST is a unique "rehab" in that it treats cross addiction which in my four years of sobriety I find to be an excellent reminder that the root of my "problem" is my emotional state. There are all sorts of people attending this facility, some were ready, some had a longer road than others and some were just unwilling to take the help that they needed. I saw it there and I see it everyday in those trying to recover. If you want to get better, there is no better place to attend. I am a parent of a patient who was involuntarily discharged after one week of therapy. I spoke with two psychiatrists, Dr. Moyer and therapist Joan-E, who were involved in the discharge, neither could recall specific events that led to the discharge. Neither of these people could speak from the file although both confirmed that there were complaints. Both retracted statements about my child saying that they really weren't sure what had happened. Both promised to send me a copy of his file and list of other programs at residential facilities for him. They took my email address and phone number and so far, day 4, have not responded. The entire program absolutely dropped my child without any of the promised help on a transfer or hand off with information. I have left a total of 5 voicemails to date with no response. All this from a mental health care facility charged with caring for its patients. I am very disappointed. Sierra Tucson was very happy to take my payment but has shown nothing but negligence and lack of professionalism in my child's treatment. read more

I wanted to come to this facility as it was recommended by my nurse practitioner. However, it was going to be "out of reach" financially for me. Honestly, I am appalled anymore at the cost of treatment for the mentally ill. I have tried to enroll in DBT and other programs, but it is as if they only service the rich. I actually have a MS degree and work in healthcare and am really discouraged by the high cost of treatment which makes treatment actually affordable for only the rich. I finally have lost hope and have concluded that these treatment centers and the people involved in them are seriously crooked and profiting off of people's misery. It is a lucrative business for them. If they truly cared about helping those suffering they would off programs to all people and make treatment more attainable to ALL. read more

A sign on the entrance to Sierra Tucson says "Expect a Miracle" and it was a miracle for me. The staff is absolutely great and really helpful, the 30 days in what seemed like a 5-star spa (massage, yoga, great dining) was a treat and best of all, I enjoyed the other people there getting treatment. There were 120 men and women, all ages, and it was interesting and inspiring to hear their stories. In fact, I would love to go back to Sierra Tucson but I don't think they'd take me because I've been alcohol free for more than a year now. read more

This is the most unorganized, traumatizing, unprofessional, and scammy place I have ever been. I left ST after one day feeling 10 times more traumatized than I already was when I arrived. Absolutely no guidance. The facility was dirty and reminiscent of an over-populated summer camp. They didn't feed me and the food they had left was disgusting and unhealthy. I attended Sierra Tucson in September of 2009. I have to admit that as a person who is alcoholic the last thing I wanted to do was receive treatment for an addiction I didn't think I had. But an unfortunate series of events led me to Sierra Tucson and I'm glad it did. Upon getting to Sierra Tucson, not only was I in denial about my alcohol addiction, but I was resentful, apathetic and frankly didn't want anything to do with recovery, counselors or sobriety. What I found at Sierra Tucson was the real me. The 30 days I spent in rehab was more about discovery than anything else. It was the beginning of my recovery which I still practice today. It wasn't easy and I don't think it was supposed to be. My team counselor had me examine my behaviors and patterns of thinking which led me there. What I discovered changed my life forever. The team at Sierra Tucson helped me start a process which replaced shame and guilt, as the result of trauma and alcoholism, with understanding and compassion. My wife and brother attended family week. This week helped my family and I understand how my addiction affected everyone around me, especially the ones who loved me most. This precious week also started a process of repairing the relationships I damaged as the result of my drinking. Sierra Tucson also counseled my family and led them in the direction of recovery as well. Their experiential therapy was very diverse and was beneficial for me. The nurses were not only there to dispense medication, but were there to lend an ear when I was down and in a bad place. When I left Sierra Tucson I was able to understand a little more clearly what drove me to this destructive behavior. I live life today free of alcohol and am still in recovery. If anyone is thinking of attending Sierra Tucson I would advise that all it takes to make the most of their stay is open mindedness, willingness and honesty. There is hope out there and the staff of Sierra Tucson truly understands. If you are suffering from addiction then I would recommend Sierra Tucson as the starting point to your recovery. I went to Sierra Tucson in February 2006 for the treatment of alcoholism and spent 30 days learning about my disease. Sierra Tucson stressed keeping an open mind and treating the "whole person". For anyone who thinks Sierra Tucson is a country club - you are dead wrong. My days began at 5am and I wasn't through and in my room until after 9pm every night. Then there was homework. But I learned to hang with the winners at Sierra Tucson and that I would get as much out of my recovery as I was willing to put into it. ST really stressed the 12 Step concept of recovery. There were two 12 Step meetings a week that all patients were required to attend. I was also taken to an "out side" 12 Step meeting where I ran into several employees of ST. I knew that many ST employees were in recovery, but until then I hadn't realized how many. Family week was an eye opener. My son attended and it was then that I began to realize that alcoholism is truly a family disease. My son stayed as busy as me - taking classes on my disease and learning how to take care of himself - no matter what I chose to do with my life. When I first arrived at Sierra Tucson I felt safe from myself for the first time in years. I thought I would never want to leave the security of ST. I was given so many tools and information on how to recover from this horrible disease. About 2 weeks into my treatment we started working on what to do and where to go when I got home. By that time I was beginning to get excited about leaving and coming home. What a miracle. I was given a complete schedule of 12 Step meetings in my hometown and encouraged to attend 90 meetings in 90 days - plus 5-7 more weeks of daily meetings. I was encourage to get a sponsor and work the 12 steps. These were my discharge orders! Five and a half years later I am sober and very involved in my 12 Step program. I have attended the alumni retreat for the last 5 years and plan on attending this year also. How many people go back to their treatment centers for a reunion every year? That should say something about how positive my experience was. I will be grateful to ST for the rest of my life. How blessed I was to be referred there and to go there. read more

The place is highly rated but once they get your money, you can't get anyone to return a phone call. The admissions people are great but the rest of the staff is horrible. It is so frustrating to leave messages and not get returned phone calls. Here are some of my issues: 1- Trying to get a refund is taking over 4 weeks. Still waiting for my 36k. 2- My sister had to leave and go to a hospital. Her clothes did not go with her. I called to get her clothes sent and I won't mention names but she said she would mail them to her. I told her her stay was only for 5 days and it would be nice for her to wear something besides scrubs. She would not send their car service to deliver. I finally got it resolved but it took 90 minutes of my day. This place does not even deserve one star. read more

6 1/2 years ago I arrived at Sierra Tucson, scared apprehensive and fearful that I could never get recovery from drinking alcohol. I no longer believed in myself. My eating behaviors were a mess as well. I had been trying 12 step groups and personal therapy for a couple years and just couldn't get any sober time put together. Thankfully, I somehow had an open mind and was willing to listen and eventually open up to the love and support they offered. The therapy I received was first class and the alternative therapies were things I had never been exposed to. The program they offer brought healing to my mind, body and spirit. I still engage in many of them today including meditation, acupuncture, massage therapy and different spiritual practices. They have pulled together an understanding of my personal spiritual program as well as a program for living that I could have never gotten in the area I live in. I am grateful for Sierra Tucson every day. I return for annual workshops and have found the support did not end when I left. My children, family and friends have watched a transformation of my life that I got back and more by attending Sierra Tucson treatment. read more

Amazing place for anyone who is looking to get any type of help! They were great with me when I went there in July 2015. I was diagnosed with a mood disorder which was my main reason of drinking. The staff is great, the food is really good, the rooms are exceptionally clean. I may say that the place is like a resort except that there is staff 24/7 and people that work there truly care for your wellbeing. There is alsp massages and accupuncture as well as yoga and arts available - all for therapeudic recovery of course. I've been to another rehab in florida, but sierra truly addressed my problems and with their help, I've been sober ever since I left there, which I never thought was possible. I'll always be greatful for their help. read more

I helped to get a friend into Sierra Tuscon who was suicidal. He did not have much money so I worked with friends and family to find the money for a 45 day treatment program. My friend was very direct in telling the inpatient people the issues he was dealing with. His greatest fear, after trying other clinics was that Sierra Tucson could not help him. He arrived on a Wednesday evening at 11 PM and was told on Friday morning by Dr. Genovese, the lead doctor on the case, that they could not help him. I spoke with Dr. Genovese and he said it would be unethical for ST to keep my friend knowing they could not effectively treat him. Very concerned that my friend had been suicidal and his worst fears were that ST could not treat him, I requested they try to find him an alternate solution. This the did. In working with the "business office" at ST, they told me that had not run the credit cards and would not do so until they could assess the total costs for his 2 day visit. We could only get my friend into the new facility recommended by ST if we had the money we had committed to ST for his treatment. To make a very long and frustrating story much shorter, ST was not truthful with me on "running the credit cards" of the people I had gotten to support the treatment. Sierra Tucson had run all the credit cards the first full day of my friends visit and help them for a full month making it impossible for us to get my suicidal friend into a new treatment program. The news reports are that there have been three suicides at Sierra Tucson. It is very easy for me to see how this could happen based on how they treated this particular case. Sierra Tucson lied to me as the person coordinating the treatment and made it impossible for us to get my friend into a new treatment facility. There was absolutely no coordination between the "business office" and the treatment team lead by Dr. Genovese and seemingly no concern about releasing a suicidal patient while keeping all the money for this 45 day treatment in hock making it impossible for us to get him into a different facility. I consider Sierra Tucson a highly unethical organization and it is easy for me to understand why they have had suicides on site when they treat clients the way they treated my friend. read more
