I am sadden that after our senior Director, Mr. Robert H Benbow passed away on March 12, 2023 after retiring, where he spent 35 years involved in the schools and the community that the school board and the superintendent did not share any condolences. They up to today act like he never existed. In all the years I worked at the district they would send out condolences to staff about the passing of an employee and many times would close a board meeting in the person memory. The only folks that shared condolences is the mayor and Baldwin Park city council. They closed the city council meeting in his memory and last Saturday placed a wreath in his memory at the Esther Snyder Community Center. Those who knew him have many memories of the many things he did for the community and the vision he had as a leader. Mr. Benbow's vision of creating a larger adult school and building the Performing Arts Center was just a small sample of what he brought to the city and school district. I sent a letter to the Baldwin Park school board members and superintendent asking them what the procedure and protocol was for renaming the Performing Arts Center in his memory.I have never received a response. I find this very unprofessional to ignore my letter and request for the process. I am truly shocked that the district has been SILENCED about his passing and the lack of sympathy and respect for a man who worked for the district 35 plus years and did so much . They have acted like he never existed.

Not sure what his name is but as the kids where walking up to get their promotional certificates for graduation yesterday 6/4/25 he did special gestures with each and everyone of his students which was a treat to watch. Thank you to that awesome teacher! My biggest complaint was that the promotion was exceptionally long! I attended a college graduation and a HS graduation both within these last 3 weeks and this 8 grade promotion by far was the longest! Maybe if the principal hadn't gone on and on and talked so much it would have made it much shorter and more enjoyable. The video at the end was absolutely great and as each one signed off made it even more special. This is the second promotion I have attended for this school. Maybe next year make it more about the kids and not the principal and shorten it. Congratulations to class of 2025! Go little sharks and become big sharks!

My experience at this school has been honestly frustrating and disappointing. One of the biggest issues is how disorganized everything is. Important information is either given last minute or not clearly explained at all, which makes it harder to stay on top of assignments and expectations. It feels like students are blamed for things that aren't fully communicated in the first place. The teaching quality is also really inconsistent. Some teachers care and try, but others seem uninterested or don't explain things well, leaving students confused and stuck teaching themselves. When you ask for help, it can feel like you're just brushed off instead of actually supported. The rules can also feel unfair or overly strict, especially when they're enforced differently depending on the student. It creates a sense that things aren't equal, which makes it harder to feel respected or motivated. Overall, this school doesn't feel like a place that prioritizes student success or well-being. This school has a running track, stretching areas, tennis courts, handball courts, basketball courts, baseball and soccer fields that are open to the public depending on whether it is being used by the school itself or any other local community organization. Yup, there a couple of porta-potties here too. It's a dirt track, so use some running shoes that you wouldn't mind getting dirty. The aesthetics doesn't compare to Sierra Vista High School's more recently renovated track, but it gets the job done if you're looking for a place to walk/jog. You can also run the sidewalk circumference of the school which happens to be the conveniently measured distance of 1 mile which can be used whether school is in session or not. The school did a FANTASTIC job of organizing this huge event and everything went smoothly. The entire ceremony was slightly over one hour for the graduating 241 senior class. The seats were comfortable, the view and PA system were perfect and all employees and volunteers alike did an AMAZING and thankless job for a GREAT event. My daughter has been harassed multiple times by the dean and they have consistently made her feel shameful of her body, even though she is a star athlete that represents the school and has helped them win multiple times. I was originally told by one of their big alumni that they do not like children of color. As a mom with a black daughter, I did not believe it originally however, after my daughter now being at the school for two years, I realize she has been treated differently and she has been harassed because of the way she looks from teachers and the deans. They do not work with you, the school counselors don't get the schedules right, they don't return phone calls, they don't ensure your child is getting the right classes. It's almost like they don't even do work at this school, several are the teachers are extremely underqualified and they're just somebody's friend and they do not care what happens to your child. If your child forgets a lunch, they do not even allow you to leave the child's lunch. You are forced to buy a lunch from them. It just seems like all they care about is payments. The Catholic Church needs to stop funding them. This school is nothing but about taking your money and not doing right by your kids. They are not treating black kids right and they barely treat everybody else decent. I am so sorry that I even had my daughter come here. Now we are stuck here or she goes to multiple high schools, which is something I never wanted to do. Hopefully I can save another parent from this heartbreaking experience that I have been going through with this school. I am incredibly disappointed in the administration, the school and the Catholic practices that they instill. And I have no problem with religion, my oldest graduated from Mater dei and Bishop Amat is not even a 10th of what they are. I just live so far now but I wish I would have never went here.
