What a great place! Actually, two buildings. The one in the rear, closer to Frontier St., is the real attraction. The top floor features beautiful paintings and original bronze sculptures by Remington. Additionally, some very old rifles and handguns. The basement was where we spent the majority of our time. Reproductions of a general store (w a popup hologram), hotel, livery, residence, optician, and many more stores were fascinating. Many more old rifles, shotguns, and pistols. I was extremely impressed with Dos Caballeros Museum in Wickenburg. The history of Wickenburg as told through this museum was fascinating. They had interactive displays and a whole level devoted to western art by women. The town itself is quaint and such a great place to visit. I plan to come back when the weather is cooler to do a historic walk. read more

Oh my goodness, this place is a must see! Beautiful art exhibits on the top floor. Also amazing videos about the history of how Wickenburg was founded. It is such a cool thing to show my 14 year old Goddaughter about the different cultures of people that founded Arizona towns. And downstairs was like stepping back in time...it is set up to look like Wickenburg in the 1800's. Very guest friendly and definitely worth the time. Anything that keep a teenager's interest and helps them learn is 5 stars in my book! read more

Fantastic art gallery and museum. It seems to keep going and going. Happened to be there for the Cowgirl artist exhibit and wish I had $$$ to purchase at least one. Totally worth an hour or two if your time and the reasonable admission fee. read more

They were displaying Cowgirl Up which was all female artists showcasing southwestern art that you could purchase and vote on your favorite work. Absolutely fabulous! The main floor has beautiful paintings and sculptures focusing on cowboys, native Americans, and the beautiful scenery of Arizona. The basement section contains life-size recreations of early 1900s Wickenburg: a reconstructed store, saloon, and hotel; furnished rooms; oral histories, and dioramas. But wait, there's more! There is a second building. Currently on display (11/2017 - 4/2018) are treasures from the Getzwiller Collection. Beautiful Native American rugs, blankets, pottery, baskets and paintings, and so much more. read more

Our family loved the museum. We have a set of twins and with our limo of a stroller it was easy to make our way around the main museum. We will for sure be back for family day so our toddler can explore as well. FYI there are two separate buildings both are accessible if you have a stroller but the culture crossroads learning center was a bit to fragile for us. Very beautiful displays, stories and pottery on display but everything encased with glass. I get the precaution but we will have to enjoy another time without or babies. read more

A wonderful little museum with interesting displays of life in Territorial Days. There are artifacts of ranching, mining and daily life which are authentic and educate visitors about what life was like in the late 1800s and early 1900s in Wickenberg. These are located in the downstairs area. Upstairs are the permanent collections and the special exhibitions, which were focused on cowboys and Native Americans and the lives they lead. There was a special exhibition by Ed Mell and I enjoyed it very much. The one thing that I found strange and a bit disappointing is every single painting is by a male painter. There are female artists who do western pieces and it would be nice to see their work represented. I wonder why it isn't. read more

Museums are places that I feel need to be revisited at different intervals in time. So, I guess what I'm saying, is that I need to go back! I visited many years ago, closer to 2005-2006. My parents had recently retired to the valley and used my visit as an excuse to visit places they had only heard of. We ended up here, because , who doesn't like cowboys? There was an art gallery dedicated to all things "Western"....paintings and sculptures of the flora and fauna, old west scenes, lots of cowboys, horses, cattle drives and chasing Indians. There were areas of artifacts (weapons and gear) and rocks representing the geology of the area. There were dioramas and mock ups of general stores and homes in the wild west.....how people really lived and the difficulties they faced in doing so. The museum gift shop was small, but adequate as far as western type souvenirs go, and I ended up purchasing a couple of books. This is a very nice, small museum, and one that I think everyone will find something of interest in. I look forward to going back! 14/2017 read more

I found this museum to be pretty surprising in what they had. I would never have expected to see a gun owned by Wyatt Earp, Seth Bullock's shave set, or a knife presented to Buffalo Bill Cody by the Russian czar while on a hunt here, let alone all three and more. I had first heard about this delightful institution looking up roadside attractions and came across descriptions of a "Bolo Tie Museum." While they do have a display on the state's official neckwear, it's far from the only thing worth seeking out. Aside from Wyatt's gun and Seth's shave cup and brush, the museum details the history of Wickenburg, with Native American items, rocks and minerals from the region, and a recreated western town downstairs. The town, peopled with mannequins in western attire, is stocked with products of the era and it's pretty neat to walk around in it. Some areas encourage you to touch -- turn the meat grinder, take bread out of the oven, churn the butter churn -- but most of the exhibits are behind barriers. Photography is allowed in most of the museum (non-flash only), but it's prohibited in the ground-level visiting galleries -- one was full of modern paintings and the other loaded with cowboy things (MANY sets of spurs, guns, chaps, saddles, bridles, etc. Since it's privately owned, you can't take pictures of it). Admission was knocked to $6 (from $7.50) with Triple-A. It's worth visiting if you're passing through. A block away from the museum, there's also the Jail Tree, which Wickenburg's authorities used to chain outlaws to since they didn't have a jail to put them in. There's a statue of such an outlaw there with a voicebox you could press to get a narration on the attraction. read more

If you are visiting Arizona or hosting a visitor to Arizona, the Desert Caballeros Western Museum should be on your short list of possible things to do. It is a small museum, but it's not a small town museum. It's professionally curated, with a unique and extensive mix of Western art and Western history on display: Western art, including paintings and bronzes. Western tradition, including saddles and firearms. Western culture, including a general store. Arizona history generally, including minerals and mining. Wickenburg history specifically. If you have kids, be sure to bring them downstairs. Photography is allowed on this level and there may be hands on activities underway depending on the day. Regardless, the general store there ("how we shopped before WalMart") is a hard to comprehend sight for many little ones. Oh yes, don't forget that the museum is housed in two separate buildings. The museum volunteers are friendly and phenomenally helpful. Admission is relatively inexpensive. There is a headphone tour available if you are so inclined, or you can just wander as we did on this day when we had young kids in tow. The visit can then be completed by dropping in on the assortment of locally owned shops and cafes located nearby, all within easy walking distance. read more

Well worth the visit. I have never stopped in Wickenburg before so this time we decided to stop and take in the museum. Fantastic set of volunteers, with all due respect to them the older set if ladies that I spoke to really knew their stuff, it was great to talk to people who may have remembered some of the early 1900s period items, from the grandparents or parents homes. The museum has a nice selection of artwork from bronze Remingtons, to oils and water colors. And includes a headset for listening in to many descriptive talks on each sound port. They did a really nice job of recreating what life would have been like in the late 1800s to early 1900s for mining, living, shopping, worship and play. Well worth an hour or two to stop and take in the museum. read more

What a great museum! Has both a museum section and an art gallery section. Set up well. Art section upstairs and a great period museum downstairs. The downstairs would be great with kids. They have a few interactive sections. This museum had one of the best full room displays of things such as the general store, rooms in a old western home, etc. Around back is another section that is home to displays of rocks, clay and woven pottery. We spent about an hour or more. This was a nice find. read more

This is the second time we have been here. It's a small museum with some beautiful Remington Bronzes and s recreation of old Wickenburg downstairs. Both sections were quite interesting and the art has both contemporary and Classic pieces. A small section focuses on history of rodeos, dude ranches, and mining which was very good but small. A must see if you like southwestern art and history. Very doable after lunch and before a tour and dinner. read more

A great place to learn about the history of this little town. The musuem has several different venues. I enjoyed some of the western paintings and the Remington statues. There is an extensive collection of firearms and knives, as well as cowboy leather (saddles, chaps, etc.) The thing I found most interesting was the large collection of bolo ties. Downstairs was a detailed display of the town in its early days. All in all, probably worth the $7.50 admission. read more

Hidden gem of a museum. Fine western art (Remingtons, Russels, Morans,Beirstates, and many more of the older western masters. Lots of newer artists. Lots of paintings and bronzes. Temporary exhibition entitled Wagons West (landscapes depicting western scenes with Wagons) also a temporary exhibit featuring John Coleman 's portraits and bronzes. Down stairs is a street scene of old Wickenburg. With several stare fronts. The is also a gallery featuring a Victorian home from Wickenburg. There is also a 1800's Ranch house exhibit along with stable and work area. Lots of hands on exhibits. read more

This Museum is a real credit to the forward thinking founders and contributors to the museum. The Western art is terrific with a good representation of classic western art and new stars. They have Bierstadt's, Remington's land Catlin's as well some older artists I was not familiar with. I thought the presentation of Wickenburg through origins to the present was extremely well done. Give yourself at least 2 hours to do it justice. The museum shop is well done as well. read more

There are these iron snakes and Gila Monsters on the outside of these place that look super realistic! The paintings/sculptures in here are fantastic and the staff are very helpful. Good for an hour while you let your breakfast settle, before you tackle some outdoor activity. read more

I must admit I was at first sceptical that this would be a tiny museum with a few saddles. Far from it! Some beautiful artwork related from past and present artists. Then an amazing multi-room display filled with antiques representing the life of the first pioneers in the area. I have to say, I hadn't bothered to read any reviews and didn't have any expectations. We were visiting family in AZ and they wanted to take us to Wickenburg, so we went. At first glance, the town looked like any "theme" tourist town. Eh, but then we arrived at this museum. Wow. This museum houses significant, world class collections of western paintings, bronzes, memorabilia and artifacts. There are collections of photography as well as a basement set of dioramas of the Wickenburg from its earlier days. There are exhibitions of saddles, Native American crafts and Bola ties, invented and patented by a Wickenburg resident! Admission is affordable and includes self-guided audio tours. A couple of hours lets you see everything ands contemplate some and thoroughly enjoy yourself. read more
