I can't believe this is called a ferry because this is definitely not a ferry, at least, not in my experience having been on ferries in Washington State. The Silja Line Vartahamnen is basically a cruise ship, which I personally am not a fan of cruises, but hey, this was quite a way to travel from Stockholm to Helsinki. It's a must for anyone traveling around the Nordic area.
First of all, when I was trip planning, I was trying to figure out a way to get from Stockholm to Helsinki other than a plane, in order to see the area more, which is how I learned about this ferry. There's a ferry that goes from Stockholm to Helsinki aka Silja Line Vartahamnen, which is an overnight ferry that leaves Stockholm in the early evening and gets into Helsinki in the morning.
I booked my ticket online, which was easy to do, and just like a cruise ship, there are different rooms that you can book, depending on the amenities and price you want to pay. I paid for a basic cabin, which was good enough for me as it had a private bathroom, twin bed, wifi, etc. Plus, when you're on this ferry, you're not going to spend all your time in the room since the ferry has entertainment, different restaurants, a duty free store, casino, etc.
I was impressed with all that was offered here. This is truly an experience you must take if you're traveling around the Nordic region, especially between Sweden and Finland. And the ferry terminals were both very accessible by public transit, which was a huge win for me. I had a fun time traveling by sea to get to another country. read more
