Never got to experience this shop before the owner change, but I think I found my new go to for firearm purchases. I was recommended by a close friend to go and take a look at this shop for purchasing ammo. The selection was great and the prices were very fair and competitive compared to other local shops and big box stores. When it came time for me to make my next handgun purchase, I used their website to see they had the firearm available that I was looking for. I told Brian the owner that I was looking for a Sig p320 xcarry legion, a gun that I did a lot of research about before wanting to make a purchase. Brian informed me they did not have the gun currently, but immediately offered to get it shipped in for me in as little as 2-3 days. He also assisted me in trying out different grip modules on firearms similar to the xcarry legion so that I could get a feel of what the frame was like. He was also patient and helped me look at different models with their features before I made my final decision. This encounter made me appreciate the location as with other shops they try to push for you to purchase their gun of choice, and treat you like a fool for wanting to buy a certain brand they don't quite like. There was none of this nonsense here, any questions I had were answered professionally and Brian went out of his way to make sure I got the product that I wanted. When I went to retrieve my new handgun after NICS, I had an awesome chat with the Jeff who finished up my paperwork with me and made some great recommendations for cleaning of my firearms. Both Jeff and Brian seem to have a lot of experience in this industry, and were very friendly throughout the entire purchase process for my handgun. I came here to the Silver Bullet Supply on a recommendation from a friend for my Bf to do a FFL ( Federal Firearms Licensee) transfer between my him and a friend legally. This allows individuals to engage in business related to the manufacture of ammunition or firearms or the interstate or intrastate sale of firearms. In the state of NJ this is mandatory. The entrance is through a double set of red doors. I met the new owner Steve and his son Brian who bought this place from Frank. We dealt with Brian several times and he made the entire process enjoyable. He explained all the steps clearly and was very knowledgeable and went by the book. After a through background check and the proper paperwork filled out, it only took a couple of days for the entire transaction to happen. They have a nice selection of guns and ammo. I would definitely recommend coming here to purchase a gun or ammo or supplies. The new owners are so very nice and friendly.They will definitely make this place their own. I had the misfortune of stopping in the Bass Pro Shop in Bridgeport on my way home from Mass to pick up some ammo. Turns out they won't sell to out of state. Looked up Hornady Critical Defense ammo dealers (for my NJ CCW weapon) and the Silver Bullet popped up. I've read the reviews of some customers who felt they were treated less that politely by one of the staff (Presumably the owner) at this shop. I generally like to formulate my own opinions rather than go by the word of others, so I was about to give it a try. Until I read the one review defending the store owner. The one explaining that as long as you come in and don't do anything that the owner might find disrespectful, in other words walk on eggshells, you will be fine. Yes, simply tread carefully and even you can have a conflict free visit to the store. And bonus.. if the owner takes a liking to you, he may even impart some of his vast firearms knowledge on you. Ummm, maybe I am taking it the wrong way, but that review almost feels like some sort of vailed threat. Act in a manner that the owner will approve of or else. Well what's the alternative? What if the owner takes something you say the wrong way, or he's having a bad day? Yea no thanks. Is it county jail or a retail store? I'm confused because the rules seem to be the same. The fact that ANYONE has to warn ANYONE else about how they should act in order to shop at a store "conflict free" tells me everything I need to know. No Thank You. There are a lot of other gun stores around. Don't need to worry about getting roughed up at a place I intend on giving my money to. This is a decent gun shop in the middle of rockaway. They guy there is pretty straight forward and as friendly as a gun shop own can be... if you show your firearms ID they generally become slightly more open to talking to you. There is a large selections of rifles and shotguns for the size of the store. He has a fair amount of pistols as well. Recently picked up a holster for a competition, prices are good. Just know you cannt charge anything under 50 bucks. read more

A classic, old style, local gun shop. The owner is knowledgeable about guns and about the law (unlike a store that would not sell handgun ammunition because, while I had the only identification required by the law, I did not have another form of identification they claimed the law required -- and I am an attorney who practices firearms law in the state). He carries a good selection of new guns, and a decent collection of used guns. If you are looking for a particular gun that you cannot find in other stores, give this place a call -- they may have one still in the case because they are a little off the beaten track. If you know what you want, he respects your decision. Just don't act like a "know it all jerk" because the tolerance of fools is a little low here. I will buy again from here. read more

I too read all the reviews before deciding where to go. I'm quite a direct and pull no punches type of a guy and felt I would be up for a challenge. It has been a good deal of time since I purchased a firearm. And even longer since using a firearm on a regular basis in the military. Except for a 22 rifle for ground hogs that's about it. I was looking for direction and advise. I was also looking for a magazines for an old rifle. Frank had them in stock along with all the ammo I needed. I was also looking for a firearm for home protection and maybe some range shooting. I don't get the negative reviews. AT ALL! Direct, perhaps. A welcome posture to say the least. Frank is a great guy the order of the day at his shop is respect. If you have a bad experience at Silver Bullet keep one thing in mind, you get what you give. The one man show is run by the only true gunsmith in NJ. He did a legal FFL magazine conversion for me, 5 - 17 round mags to 15 rounds. One broke and Frank repaired it and paid the return shipping to boot. Walk in introduce yourself show your FID be polite and respectful and you will get it back in return. He always has ammo, and a wide variety of firearms. Plenty of choices for accessories and fair pricing. Here is the thing. The owner, Frank, is old school and very knowledgeable. It is not like I haven't handle guns before either. I finally got my firearms license and my first handgun permit. I found out about Frank through my friend, Mike. Knowing that Frank is old school and this was my first handgun purchase, I walked into the Silver Bullet knowing that I would need his help in choosing. Being told that Frank is very knowledgeable I walked in and told him what I liked and he gave me his opinion which I respected. He knows more than me so I respected the information that he gave me. In saying that I walked out with a beautiful Kimber at a great price. There are a few rules to remember. Don't walk in there an try and be an asshole. Don't try and tell Frank that he doesn't know what he is talking about or act like you are better then him. Respect the knowledge he has and be willing to listen. He will steer you in the right direction and that is why I am excited to buy my next one from him. Treat him with respect and he will help you with what you need. Be an asshole and he will show you the door. It is simple and these people saying that he was mean, has a personality disorder, or any other thing to be disrespectful and...... no holds barded you will be out the door. The Silver Bullet has a lot of inventory, both new and used. I have purchased two handguns from Frank and some accessories for my AR. i have to agree that the problem here is the attitude. It is a shame that places like this treat people new to firearms like idiots. My friend just got his pistol permit and was looking to purchase. I tagged along just to make sure he does not get screwed. I saw the mixed reviews but decided to give it a shot as it is one of the closer shops. Walked in and immediately knew it was a mistake but wanted to give the guy a chance. After a few insults thrown our way Frank went from trying to sell my friend a 22 to a used, well worn and beat up 38 to a 45. At that point I realized I wouldn't let my friend buy anything there but stayed there to see where this would go. When my friend asked him who makes the 45 he threw out a name neither of us have heard of and when my friend asked him to write it down so we can research it. Frank threw some more insults our way saying we didn't know anything, scribbled it down, threw the paper at us and walked away. Turns out the company makes knock offs. Again, you're supposed to be growing the sport not being a jerk to people so they never want to shoot. Take a little time, share some knowledge and be semi-nice to people. Also the place is an absolute disorganized mess, there are copies of customer's driving licenses all over the place, boxes of junk all over the floor. A very unpleasant experience for both seasoned shooters and novices alike. While the prices are reasonable (some tending to be a tad high), the level of customer service one can expect leaves much to be desired. Expect to wait around while the owner lounges in his chair generally ignoring you. Once you get his attention expect little to no assistance in answering your questions or concerns about your purchase. In fact, unless you know exactly what you're there for, have cash on hand, and don't want to actually ask about the products you're about to purchase, you'll get what you want. The level of customer service is so dismal in fact that numerous times a customer can walk in and leave without so much as a greeting from the dismissive owner. The owner's general disdain and blase approach to his own customers (even returning customers) is so bad that I would recommend that regardless as to what you're looking for, unless you cannot find it someplace else, there is little to no reason to shop here. Its been a few years since my first review in 2012, and I've been a repeat customer. You won't find many more knowledgable gunsmiths, and the owner Frank is a super knowledgable guy. Don't touch any guns without asking, as is the same with any professional gun shop, and just show him respect and you will get it in return. I just bought another rifle from Frank today. Is he the cheapest? No. His prices are a little higher than some mailorder, but still reasonable, and he will stand behind it unlike allot of these mail order places. He can also guide you on what are good options depending on what you want versus some shops which will sell you wantever they can make the most money on. Some unique and interesting buys. Unfortunately, this guy does have a personality disorder. I am not sure how he stays in business. I was in there alone a few years ago and he did not say a word to me the whole time. I must have been in their looking for 10 minutes. I asked to look at one gun and also asked if he had a Desert Eagle, which he did, did but it was sold. I asked if I could see it. He said I could see it but I could not touch it which was fine. He proceeded to look for it for at least five minutes and started to get upset that he could not find it. He finally found it and walk over to me and opened the case and immediately closed it. The motion of the case never stopped and the viewing lasted about 3 seconds. What a waste of time. I looked a few minutes longer. It is a sloppy store in a basement. The entry to the store is quite unpleasant, bordering on being unsafe and concealed from public view. It was very uncomfortable being in there alone with him. This guy needs to stay away from people or make some form of attempt to improve his ability to interact with people. Maybe something bad happened to him. I felt sorry for him. I did not show him my ID card until I asked to see a gun. I did have three gun permits in my pocket and was ready to make a purchase, but he seemed to have no interest in selling anything, so I just left, said goodbye, and received no acknowledgement from him during my exit. read more

I will never return to the silver bullet and I will never recommend it to anyone. I read some reviews about the place before going and I didn't understand why everyone was hating on the owner. I read that if you are respectful and show your firearms ID card as soon as you walk in you'll be fine, so I did just that. The owner was ok at first but became short tempered with me when I wanted to see multiple guns, as if I were inconveniencing him (I was the only one in the shop at that time by the way). I asked to see one rifle, I believe a S&W AR, and he looked at me and said it was out of my price range. Ok dude, you don't know me. The owner thinks he is all knowing, the alpha, AND the omega. I left his store disrespected and heated. If you want a great gun store with super friendly and helpful people (who actually smile) go to Right to Self Protect (rtsp) on rt.10. After leaving the silver bullet that same day I went to rtsp and spent a grand on a DPMS AR. They hooked me up with a sweet stock and installed rails and a rear sight for me. Silver bullet does not deserve your business, time, or energy. Do yourself a favor and just go to rtsp, you'll be happy you did, I promise.
