I ended up here because my usual barber closed an hour before they normally do and this shop was open later than most. The barber was friendly enough and I thought he did a good job even after he gave me a mirror to check it out. Shame on me for focusing on the top more than the sides. I just got home and looked in the mirror. What a botch job on the side. Of course as life would have it, they are closed now and I leave town tomorrow for the rest of the week. I give this group a full 5-star review. Not because they aren't without fault, but because they are one of the only 'old-school' barbers in the area that have more experienced (older guys) still cutting hair . . . and doing it well. They are also one of the only 'old-school' barbers that still cut hair with scissors and a straight edge razor. BTW, yes they do use clippers too, but they are not one of those booshi new-school places that are more about Pinterest photo opportunities than they are at giving excellent customer service and also a great haircut. I had explained to my 'guy', Gao (pronounced Yao), who is the owner, manager or otherwise the guy in charge (the other barbers seems to ask of his approval on things, customers or their customer's requests). Gao is also the guy I always see opening the store and taking customers in before the posted opening time. Gao is from Vietnam (I think I remember) because we talked a bit about food from the region. Now he's probably going to get pissed at me for saying, but he could also be from Thailand, because we talked about that cuisine as well. What makes this place special is the Asian style of hair cut the two older gentleman give their customers. I use "Asian" style referencing the way I used to receive a haircut while traveling abroad while in the Navy. When I was in the Navy, I made it a point to get my hair cut whenever our ship had pulled into an Asian port of call, whether the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, or Hong Kong (att British rule). I would get a haircut by some guy using just a comb, scissors and a straight-edge razor. I swear they would cut one strand of hair at a time then conclude with a full face shave, scalp message and 'clop' 'clop' 'clop' 'clop' 'clop' of their hands semi-folded across the scalp and back of shoulders. Freaking crazy. Made me have some kind of PTSD flashbacks. I mean, when was the last time you had the inside of your ears shaved . . . SHAVED? This place does it all. Hot towels, cold towels, lotions and potions. Crazy good. Crazy 'guy pampering' in a manly man sort of . . . I'll just stop. Anyway, Gao has a heavy motherland accent and doesn't talk too much during 'the cut' unless it's Vietnamese to someone momentarily on the phone or to one of the other barbers. So if you sit in his chair, sit back relax and listen to the other customers talking away. Some good stories. Perhaps I should write a book, "barbershop tales". All of the other reviews stating things like getting shaved and whatnot is very true, even my back between my shoulder blades got shaved . . . and there are no hairs back there except the one or two that come out every Christmas. And they have lollipops in a basket next to the door as you leave door; not my hairs, the barbershop has lollipops. Look for the spinning barberpole above the door. It means they're open. Just went for my third time. Thus far I'm really pleased with this place. If you're looking for a high end barbering experience, this isn't the place for you. If, however, you want a reasonably priced shave or cut, this ticks that box very easily. For $22, I'm not expecting a 37 step shave with 20 minutes worth of pampering. What you get for that price is a great shave, performed by a pro. They even straight razor your neck and around your ears for a cleaned up look between haircuts. The shop is clean, despite being pretty basic. The service is cash only, with an ATM located inside. To those writing about their awful experiences, I would encourage them to set their expectations: this isn't a shop that specializes in being cutting edge or leading the industry in the latest styling trends. Place is under NEW OWNERSHIP!! So if the other reviews scare you, read this one, as it's after the new owners have taken over and therefore more accurate of what YOU will receive! I'm writing this review on my husband's behalf because he does not Yelp, and l just couldn't keep secret what a great quality gem this place is! That would just be robbing the people of an equally great quality experience! It's also a "mom n pop" place, and if they're wonderful, l do what l can to support them. My husband is active duty military, and usually (not anymore, thanks to this place!) went on base to get his haircuts. The last few times I would be fixing the cuts because they had a lot of stray flyaways. He had also been to numerous (read: a ton!) barbers off base as well but hadn't found a high quality barber. Well now he has! He came home ecstatic (yes, a big ol' grin on his face and excitedly told me how cool his experience was) and told me that not only did they give him an excellent cut, (and yeah, l do vouch for it also, as l'm hyper critcal of his head--hello! I see it everyday! Lol) but they also shaved his whole face with a straight razor! He even divulged that they -ahem!- trimmed his ear hair! Not only the stuff inside, but the soft peach fuzz covering it, lol. Making them unbelievable soft. Who knew?? He also was stoked that he didn't now have to wait forever with younger Marines to get his haircut in a "wham-bam-thank-you-ma'am" sort of way. He said that the guy was super nice, but English was a bit limited, so be patient! When the service AND results are this good...just sit back and enjoy! Everything he received was for $10! He was expecting it to be more due to receiving so many services. And also said he wasn't sure if he was given a discount for military, but he told me that because of how inexpensive it was, he gave him a fat tip. If you are reading this and are military, then you should definitely come to this place. A good fade is hard to come by and this place does it well. The price is low and I think they should charge more for the quality of the cut. The interior doesn't look like much but that is how it should be. I don't know where they train these people but they can all individually give you the same haircut. For me, this will be the place I go as long as I live here. For those of you that want some specifically styled haircut that is trendy, this might not be the place to go for you. Try a stylist salon. I have a heard a couple people complain while in there about their haircut. They didn't want a haircut. They wanted some type of suave wizardry on their head. I am writing in regards to deceptive business practices by this barber shop. This barber shop I have been going to for over a year. I went in to get my standard haircut and facial shave. The barber that serviced me was someone I never had before, a younger guy. I usually get serviced by one of the two older barbers there. As I sat I gave the barber my standard requirements for my haircut (how short I wanted, the style, etc.). After the haircut, the barber asked if I wanted a shave. I found this odd since I was never asked previously if I wanted a shave, as it was included in the service. He also asked which area I wanted shaved, the sides only or including the 'goatee area.' I told him I wanted everything shaved. At this point, not once did he mention the cost options for the shave (again, based on my previous experiences, this was all included in the price). After he was done with everything, I got up to leave and gave him $14 for the haircut and shave. This is the listed price, and the price I have always paid here (originally $12 a year ago and raised to $14 this year). The barber mentioned that I was short on the money, and pointed to the list price board which showed $25 for a haircut and close shave. That was news to me, as I have always paid $12/$14 for a haircut and facial shave of ALL areas. I disagreed with the barber, and tried telling him that I was always charged the lower price. In fact, the older barber that always quoted me $12/$14 for the same service was there, and when I looked to him for guidance, he refused to look at me and stared at the customer in front of him. I reluctantly paid the higher price since I am not the one to create a scene in public. However, I will be filing a complaint with the BBB. This establishment needs to make the services and price list more clear to customers, not arbitrarily decide who to charge what. read more

Barbers and auto mechanics. Find the right one and never stray. Ever. THat's one thing my father taught me at an early age. And that's one thing I learned the hard way by going to this place. WORST. HAIRCUT. EXPERIENCE. EVER. As far as the hair cut went, I was left with my left side flat, and my right side all lumpy. It looked like I had one of those Fur trapper earmuffs on my head, but only on my right side. I actually had to take scissors to my hair as soon as I got home. I didn't want him to fix it. I just wanted out. ASAP. My typical haircut goes: buzzzz. snip snip. buzz sideburns. blow off excess hair with hair dryer. done. tip. see you next time. But not here. It took 45 minutes of I don't even know what he did. How could a 10 minute cut go into the 45th minute? Not exactly sure. But I wanted out. And I wanted out ASAP. As if tugging and pulling at my hair with dull scissors for 35 extra minutes wasn't enough, I had to literally hold my breath for the entire duration of my haircut. Why you ask? Maybe it was because the short, old Vietnamese dude had the worst cigarette breath I've ever had the displeasure of being breathed on. Or because he actually coughed on my head with said cigarette breath. Or because he had no qualms about putting said cigarette smelly mouth within 3 inches of my face. I was just dying to get some fresh air after the first 2 minutes, not knowing there wasn't 8 more minutes to go, but 43 minutes of cutting, then cutting again, then cutting some more, then almost just shaving all my hair with a buzz clipper. Really. He ALMOST shaved my head into a MO hawk. "You wann duh MO hawk right?" "no... I said I wanted a spike, but I'm gonna spike it like *this* into a faux hawk so you can leave the front a little bit longer by 1/4 inch" "Yes, MO hawk" "No, FAUX hawk" "yes, MO hawk, it go lak *DIS*" "no.... I don't want a MO hawk....can you just ....just... cut it all to like an inch... no mo hawk...." "no mo hawk? but you said you want mo hawk" Like I said. Worst haircut experience ever. read more

Saw that this place didn;t have any reviews so I thought I'd try it out and share the experience. It was OK. They don't take credit cards so I had to use the ATM inside the place. The haircut cost $16. They do offer discounts for military. Haircut - very happy with the haircut I received. I felt there was more attention to detail here than what I'd typically get at Sports Clip. They did an especially great on the side and back of my head. Service - solid. I was seen right away and was able to pay quickly. I didn't have to wait around at all. Experience - meh. Good lighting but it just felt a little lackluster in there. Nothing was memorable and I didn't feel a great connection with the barber that made me feel like I absolutely, positively had to go back in the future. There is a TV in there. I would recommend them for their ability to cut hair. I think they're open until pretty late every night (I believe 9pm but I'm not 100% sure about that), which is pretty convenient. read more

This review is NOT personal; purely based on quality of service. Went in for standard haircut and was greeted by 1 of 3 Asian men who seemed bored out of their mind. (Since I myself am Asian, I'm very skeptical of haircuts provided by Asian men. Not saying they're all terrible, but I have had bad experiences.) Based on his broken English and awkwardness, I was worried that he wouldn't understand what I wanted. Luckily, he did a pretty good job, but not perfect. Now, here's where I put this place on blast. Without even asking me, he begins to prep my face for a facial. I ask if this is part of the haircut and he says "yes" numerous times. He goes on to give me a razor shave and I start to think this place is cool for including it with the cut. During the cut, the dude is super unhygienic, coughing up a storm in my face. His buddies decide that they're super bored and go take a smoke break and came back smelling like ash trays. Oh it's not done yet, they decide to hang out around MY barber while they converse like high school girls, even getting my barber involved while he was working on me. Finally, it's all done. I ask how much the cut was and the guy tacks on an extra $5 for the facial. I tell him that he said it was included and he just responds "yes...$5" Wow. I should have known he didn't know what I was asking. I just bit my lip and paid it all up. Average cut + gross barber + nasty environment + terrible communication = 1 STAR Guys, unless you're looking for a buzz/military cut, look elsewhere. I am a longtime fan of Garcia's Barber Shop in Carlsbad. Been going there for many years and Lawrence always took very good care of me. Two years ago I moved to Oceanside (Rancho Del Oro) and I decided to try Silver Clippers because they are close and open on Sundays. I asked for the "Regular Haircut" ($14.00). After getting my haircut I was treated to the most complete facial shave I have ever had. Even my eyelids were shaved! Then came the hot rosemary water towel and massage! I was convinced that they were giving me the works and it would be costing me WAY more than the Regular Haircut. No, when they finished, and I was as relaxed as a noodle, the bill was $14.00. I would give this place Zero stars if it was an option! Terrible military haircut. My husband literally got the worst haircut ever here last week. And to top it off they shaved his face unevenly. It looked like it was a prank the way they only shaved one side of his face compared to the other. He was so over it and shocked he just paid and left and didn't want to spend one more second there.
