Had such an amazing time at SDF. Roland was very helpful and a joy to talk to. We filmed in the interrogation room, police department, and hospital. The green room was ample and our actors felt comfortable. We were here for 3 consecutive days. From 7 am to 7 pm. Everything we film came out beautifully. Could not have had a worse experience with Roland. His booking rules are seemingly arbitrary, sometimes using a reservation system and sometimes just wanting to award whoever is willing to pay more - he does not check his website for reservations, costing us our initial slot, and is the reason we had to push our shoots back two months. He would find any excuse to charge us extra, including on insisting on selling us HIS cleaning products (even if we had brought our own) to wipe the set down to his liking. He then pressured us to stay longer cleaning, standing over our shoulders until he felt his set was sufficiently scrubbed, only to charge us $500 in additional overtime as a result. During our "cleaning", he would refuse to let us flip the switch to put the house lights on, saying "you had your own lights, put them back up" or offering for us to pay extra to turn the lights on. During the shoot, Roland even pulled aside our makeup artist - our youngest member of the shoot - to demand that she personally pay for a clock he alleged that she had broken on set -- despite the clock not having worked prior to our arrival. He fabricated a replacement cost of over $100, until our producer found an identical one online for $30, at which point, embarrassed, he finally backed down. It's a shame -- the sets themselves are interesting and clearly designed with talent, but the experience as a whole was an enormous disappointment. This was easily the worst part of our production, and I hope Roland seriously reconsiders his exploitative behavior, personal targeting of crew members, and approach to clients going forward. read more

I was the designated Weapons Master for an upcoming film "The 4 Points" and Roland's facility was nothing short of breath taking. The attention to detail on these sets are really impressive. The most important aspect though was Rolands professionalism. Being a business over myself I know how important this aspect is to the overall success of your business. I was an actress on the upcoming film Demise. It was so much fun! We filmed and worked so hard. While I didn't actually pay for it, the experience as an actress on set here was wonderful. It has a place where we could wait in between Takes, had great sets and Vintage posters of celebrities! Really is Hollywood vibes! It was my 3rd on set experience since arriving to LA! It is really fun city life here and I can't wait until this comes out to see it! Should be coming out later this year! I am a neighbor in the Block Party Scene! That was So Awesome! Honestly the prices are fair and the company is kind, helpful and a true pleasure to work with. Having this much space and different rooms under one roof makes you feel like your in Hollywood shooting a picture, or watching a classic movie and getting that awesome set feeling you always knew it would be. Do not listen to people who give one star to this place, those people are scammers trying to give Roland's company a bad name ( they never booked a gig there). They were very nice people, but that's where the problem is. We paid $1700. On the website it showed pre-lit lighting, but they did not say it was extra. We had to pay an extra $375 just to have lights on, when we initially thought they would already be there. On top of that, the lights were having problems. We were not able to get the shots we needed due to the finicky lights. They were not working half of the time. When we left, they charged us another fee. read more

Roland saved my production! We were shooting a short film built on favors and money out of our own pockets. Silver Dream Factory was the only stage that offered an option for no-liability-insurance production, and we were very impressed with the Hospital set. Not only that, but Roland happened to have a vital piece of equipment that we needed to mount our borrowed lenses onto the borrowed camera. Without his help, we wouldn't have been able to shoot that evening, as all the rental places were closed. The place is well maintained and the lounge/lobby is super chill with it's old Hollywood vibe. I can't recommend Silver Dream Factory enough! read more

Extremely disappointed. My producer and I had an awful experience here for a few reasons.. We found Roland to be very un-professional and he had a bad attitude when speaking with us about renting the stage - which is unacceptable, especially when he is asking people to spend hard earned money here. Don't be fooled by the 5-star reviews. They're probably friends and family of the location. I agree and had similar experiences with the 1 and 2 star ratings. Look out for hidden fees and extra costs. The interpretation of the contract between us and the owner is different... very different. I would argue we did not have the "meeting of the mind". I've never experienced so much discrepancy in a contract before. When we're in the middle of shooting and we're debating about what was agreed upon, our production had two options: cut our losses and not finish the shoot, or pay the extra costs so they'd let us shoot in peace. Roland is a nice guy, at first. But he's the quickest I've seen were his attitude turned 180. It turned from helpful to hindrance. It's a trap! c-ya:-j read more

A very disappointing experience. Although what could be a filmmaker's dream come true when you see the place online and read its prices... it's a great disappointment in the flexibility and "add-ons" the management want to nickle and dime you with. I needed it for a two day shoot, and although it was a drive for my feature cast and crew, I was very willing to pay the pricing for the location, but then was asked to pay an added $500 for a smaller set I wanted to shoot THE SAME DAY. Okay I get it... it's a business. So I agreed. That would of put my total at well over $2500. Okay well its the cost of making movies right? But what really tipped the cow here for me was the fact that they wanted to charge me an added $400 because that added set... that I am shooting on the same day and I am ready to pay for .. required me to have 6 more actor show up. And since the daily max is 39 - they wanted an extra $400 per day! HUH?! WT--FREAK? So again yes the cost of making movies... I would agree normally, but not when with all the silly nickle and dimming, the cost is just the same as shooting closer to LA and bigger, better studios. So all in all ... a NICE DUDE runs the place, but just does not have the right mentality when it comes to creating positive income vs negative. And the fact that it promotes "indie" friendly is really sad. I shoot 4 to 6 films a year... and its a shame this hidden gem will have to stay that way in my book merely on the principle of it all. read more

Avoid working here. I want to relate an experience I had recently, in hopes of saving y'all time, money and frustration. A show on which I was working booked four days at the "Silver Dream Factory" in Anaheim. At first glance, they have some decent standing sets and props which are included in the rental. Apparently, the rental rate is enticing. However, the stage has unbelievably restrictive policies, which make working there very difficult. They require layout board under EVERYTHING, expecting you to cover the entire floor of each set completely, removing only what is visible in shots. I've worked in very nice locations with expensive floors, in which this is a reasonable request, but the floors on this stage are concrete and very scuffed up. We were required to put layout board under light stands which already had rubber feet, apple boxes and were not allowed to roll a Fisher dolly on the set. We were not allowed to put tape marks down on the stage floor. We were given a set of Venetian blinds to put in set windows, but were not allowed to install them, even though they fit the windows perfectly. It took us 1/2 hour to jury rig the blinds. It would have taken us 10 minutes to install them properly. They charge production for each hole in set walls ($10 for a screw, $8 for a nail). Isn't the whole idea of a stage that the pieces are expendable? Drill a hole for a set piece, fill it in so it's invisible to camera and you're all good. The stage manager follows the crew around, pointing out each 'violation'. The owner has camera on each set, recording each 'infraction'. Most people take the 5 freeway to Anaheim, which is so often a parking lot that we had crew and talent arrive late every day. My production company just finished shooting a Pilot at Silver Dream Factory. Honestly, I could not have had a better experience. The price was right. Roland, who by the way had an out standing attitude, was always there to help us and make sure we were having a good experience but never in the way. I have shot on several sound stages, at lot of them the management is stand-off-ish, or just all together not present. All business you know? I found a very friendly, family feeling environment at silver dream factory, while still very professional. For me, this type of atmosphere just helps my crew work better, longer, and happier. On the technical side, the studio can handle a lot. Silver Dream Factory had lights and G&E I did not have to rent lights and bring them to the studio. This was awesome. The sound stage is quiet, large, and has a lot of pre-built sets which really helped us make the choice to shoot there. It saved my production so much money not having to BUILD sets. I love the Silver Dream Factory! We just completed shooting my first feature there - Confessions of a Womanizer. Roland and his team were great to work with. The sets look even better on film (than they do in person) and the entire facility was perfect for our needs. I definitely plan on shooting my next films here. Of note, there is criticism about working with Roland and prices. More than anything, you have to PLAN before you shoot at Silver Dream and share with Roland exactly what you need. If you are NOT specific about what your plans are (or what you need) you will probably incur extra charges. I found Roland to be very above-board and honest. I will be back! I'm actually writing this right now as I'm here at SDF for the second time LOL but it's clean, super affordable (almost didn't want to review it so I can hoard this place for myself, but it's getting popular regardless so I might as well write!) the staff is rad, and it's away from LA madness. Always handy when you need a standing set or elements to help finish of one that I've built in the rare open space of his filming stage. Silver Dream Factory is a fantastic venue to shoot at. You are simply not going to find better rates, a cleaner soundstage, or nicer Staff than Roland and company. Do not be deterred by negative reviews. They are either from first time filmmakers, who do not understand how this business works or are from competitors trying to knock down SDF's rating. I have worked in Film and Television for over 10 years on hit shows like NCIS: LA and ENTOURAGE, and found working on the SDF soundstage no different from shooting on the lot at Paramount, the WB, Sony, etc....except for the price. If you are an independent filmmaker, looking for high production value, at minimal cost- you simply cannot beat Silver Dream Factory. It was an absolute pleasure to work here, and my cast and crew (all working Hollywood Professionals) were equally impressed. I will certainly be back. Do not hesitate to utilize this hidden gem. My only fear is, it will get so popular, I won't be able to squeeze in my shoot dates without several month's notice! read more

Without a doubt the absolute best place to shoot your next project. I did every kind of rate shopping you can do and nothing came close to Roland's prices. On top of that, there is another factor that is much, much more important to me than price, and that is the staff's attitude. If you have ever rented studio/stage you know a lot of them are jaded and rude people who hate their jobs. Roland was the exact opposite. He was so helpful and went out of his way to make sure had everything. He is so pleasant to deal with and I literally want to come up with a shoot that fits one of his locations so I can use it again. Using SDF was the best choice we made, thanks Roland! read more

I've made my living as a commercial filmmaker for the past 15 years and have shot many projects at Sliver Dream. The new location is clean, accommodating and very client friendly. The best way to save on budget is packaging... get as much as you can from Silver Dream. The more gear and resources you can bundle, the better the pricing. Over the past eight years SD has built or dressed 96 sets for my productions. We're able to knock out multiple settings in one day that, without Silver Dream, would have required multiple days. Small jobs, they are very flexible, just be as specific as possible. If you negotiate a killer rate to shoot one set, don't expect access to all the other sets for the original fee. If you book out a 10 hour day that turns to 16 hours, be prepared for O.T. I'm sorry, I don't believe a single one of the positive reviews for this place...They were most likely written by friends or employees. Stay away! The photos on the website look nice. They entice you with this magical, fantasy rate (which you'll actually never get) and then nickel and dime you to death to make up the difference. You'll also be asked to take out a one million dollar insurance policy! Google this place and you'll see they've made numerous claims against insurance. Nice little scam they have going here. I work on a show which films on the Disney/ABC backlot in Burbank. Even Disney doesn't require a million dollar policy! Roland, the owner, is extremely difficult to communicate with. Whatever his mental situation may be, he's entirely unprofessional. If you don't believe me, give him a call, or better yet, schedule an appointment to view the sets! You'll see how "different" they are in person and how bizarre Roland is. read more

As a Filmmaking Student in the Los Angeles area, I cannot recommend Silverdream Factory enough!! Trust me. You won't regret it. Especially if your budget is tight. There's simply no better deal than the huge production value of the very many production sets Silverdream offers for a fraction of the cost of other studios in LA. I have shot there many times and, to be honest, John and Roland saved my shoot a couple of times... They are fair, flexible and very helpful. They understand the constraints of indie filmmaking being experienced filmmakers themselves! Sure. The studio is in Anaheim, but with call times at 7 am... traffic is not an issue and it's a quick drive. And it's still within the 30-mile radius. I wish someone had told me about Silver Dream earlier. read more

I rented the entire facility for teaching my Steadicam / Stabilizer Workshops (www.stabilizerworkshops.com) and it worked very well for that purpose. It worked for me, my students, our actors and the G&E company that taught a lighting workshop to light our sets. I found the owner, Roland to be straight forward, helpful and a super nice guy. They definitely have some quirky rules but they're all in-writing and upfront and Roland goes above and beyond in writing and online to make sure everything is upfront. I think they're tight in that way due to the budget and experience level of the types of crews and small productions they'd have coming through there. I assigned a PA specifically to go step by step through each rule and make sure we left the place as we found it. How hard is that? If you are finding "hidden fees or extra costs" as one reviewer alleged you might consider learning to read for comprehension first instead of making movies. Duh! Other than simply rent out the studio space, they have tons of support materials, bound books with local menus etc to make things easy. Everyone involved in our workshop found it to be a perfect facility for the advanced level classes we teach. Budget wise it's not practical for anything but our advanced workshops. Every time the possibility of shooting here comes up it makes my skin crawl. At least with Ralph and Diane ( you know who I'm talking about ) you know their going to fuck you to your face. I had a very fun experience here. I run a craft service business and was hired for a production that booked us here for 5 days. Alex was the stage manager for most of our stay and was very accommodating. He was always ready to answer any questions I had and if I needed help with something he was ready to assist. Rolland, the owner, and his wife were present a few times and were lovely to chat with when I had the opportunity. The location was very fun. They have a variety of staging areas with wonderful opportunity for an assortment of settings. The space to set up for craft services had lots of tables and chairs, a fridge, toaster, single serve coffee maker, and water heaters. If you're working crafty just be mindful about how many appliances you plug in. I tripped the power a few times when I tried to use more than three items. Other than that, I hope I have to opportunity to work on another project here again. read more

What a positive experience we had at SDF. From the initial walk-through with Elena to the day of shooting, we were met with warmth and attention. We are a very small company and loved the family-feel here. Roland and his dad, Roger, were attentive and professional while also giving us the space and privacy we wanted. Everything was EASY here. SDF did a lot of the design work for us-- we were free to dress the sets with their props and furniture as we wished, and everything flowed without a hitch. If you're looking for an easy-going but professional (and best of all AFFORDABLE) set-rental experience, this is the place. I came to California working on a documentary for the Investigation Discovery channel. We had a limited budget and were able to make the most use of the Police Station set. We used both police office spaces, the jail, the interrogation room--we even used the podium and shot a press conference scene in the jail hallway. Our actors were comfortable in the holding area and the dining space worked well. Overall, it was a one-stop shop that saved us a lot of time. Their other sets are really impressive too, especially the hospital. Working with Roland and his dad were also great. Would recommend to other filmmakers coming to the area. read more

This is the worst studio I have ever shot at. They bait and switched us. At the beginning they were all nice and friendly and agreed to us shooting in several of their sets for the same price...but after our filming was done they gouged us with expenses. They are a con job. I have worked in the film industry for a decade...a half decent production designer will build you a set 10x better then this place and at least you know how much it will cost. The audio quality is terrible as well because of the airplanes and trucks going by. You will pay just as much as a legit studio like Willow at the end of the day here. They are con artists, scammers, blood suckers who want to destroy other filmmakers out of their own personal jealousy. If you can avoid shooting here, please do, it's sad to see places in Los Angeles make it so hard on low budget productions and this is one of them. read more
