The best pasty crust in the UP! The filling was very good, but could have used a touch more seasoning. I will return!

What a little gem in the keewanaw peninsula! I grew up in Houghton and made the trek back up to…read morevisit isle Royale and before that journey explored more of keewanaw. Calumet changed but also didn't change. The ice cream place was like a little surprise! They had some classic flavors but also some interesting flavors. The staff was friendly. The decor and interior was minimal but I think people get their ice cream and walk around after. Would go back!

Top tier artisan ice cream with modern flavors in the middle of copper country? Not something I…read morewould expect, but The Copper Scoop is there to meet the challenge, churning out homemade ice cream right from the machines in the back of the shop. We arrived on a weekday evening, and although it wasn't particularly hot out, the shop was doing brisk business with customers moving in and out at a steady pace. The interior of the shop looks a bit sparse - only two tables and a non-functional freezer sit in the rather large customer area. When I first walked in, I thought the place had perhaps just opened but I was surprised to learn that they've actually been in business for a year. It's a good thing that the spartan ambiance has nothing to do with the quality of the ice cream! The Copper Scoop offer sorbets if you don't want dairy and also nut free and gluten free ice creams. Very forward thinking to appeal to a larger crowd. The only drinks available are Olipop or water, but it looks like they're working to expand their offerings. They also seem to have seasonal and rotating flavors, which makes it more enticing to visit again and again. Medium (2 Scoops), Cup ($5.5) - We tried a couple of samples before we settled on two flavors in this dish: Caramel Butter Pecan on the top and London Fog on the bottom. The caramel butter pecan is amazing. I am not exaggerating - so creamy, so rich, low overrun with no ice crystals whatsoever. It's thick and dense, staying together so well that my first scoop with my spoon accidentally flipped some of the ice cream onto the table. The caramel flavor is exceptionally rich and there's a distinct flavor and feel of butter on the tongue as it melts. There are pieces and halves of pecans mixed in that are toasted, adding a very nice nutty toasted element to the dish. This is easily in the top 10% of ice cream I've had (5/5). The London Fog is a slight step down, but it's still near a top tier ice cream. The ice cream is so fragrant that the strong citrusy spiced flavor of Earl Grey comes out just from the part of the Caramel Butter Pecan that graced the surface of the London Fog. I feel like they don't just steep Earl Grey tea leaves in the cream but instead they add additional bergamot essence, enhancing the overall strength of the flavor For some reason, this ice cream is not quite as dense as the former and it definitely feels like it has a bit more air mixed in (5/5). Both flavors are perfectly sweet - not super sweet so that the flavors really shine. Note: The flavors are quite strong. If you prefer some cream taste in your ice cream, you will be disappointed. The Cooper Scoop has some excellent ice cream and I would visit again in a heartbeat. Highly recommended if you're in the area. Bathrooms - One unisex individual room in the back. Overall rating of the food this visit: 5/5

If you're expecting a quick lunch, here is not the place. If you want great food and freshly made biscuits, or a place to sit and visit with an old friend pull up a chair and enjoy the ambiance. The cook makes everything from scratch to order. I browsed the menu while enjoying my fresh brewed coffee. In the mood for some comfort food, I chose the Mac&Cheese with smoked brisket. The meal included coleslaw and a hot biscuit. 40 minutes later I had a large plate of hot creamy Mac&Cheese topped with a pile of brisket. The pasta was penned cooked al dented, whick is how I like it. Most places serve overcooked mushy pasta. The cheese sauce was creamy and packed with flavor. The brisket was nicely smoked and perfectly seasoned. The coleslaw was rough chopped and made with a creamy dressing. It was not too sweet and didn't distract from the main dish. The biscuit, this namesake, was probably the best biscuit I've ever had. Warm and obviously right out of the oven, it was moist and flakey. The butter just melted right in. There was more than I could finish. I took the rest in a box and enjoyed it again for dinner.

After reviewing the menu, I decided on the pulled pork on a biscuit. It came out and was delicious! The biscuit was light, fluffy and flavorful. The pulled pork was saucy and full of flavor. It was topped with coleslaw. I am not usually a fan of Coleslaw but this coleslaw paired with pulled pork was amazing. We are glad we found this place and will for sure stop again when traveling through the U.P.
