I was committed to not placing my husband in a senior care facility. I brought him home where I could insure he received loving and gentle care from me and family members. This action would not have been possible without the assistance of Silverado Hospice. Our nurse Didi and Technician Martin were fabulous and was even willing to teach me how to handle all aspects of his care on the days they were not scheduled to see us. The triage nurse was available 24/7 in the event of an emergency or condition causing concern (ie; sudden high temperature, intolerance of prescribed medications, etc). Our Triage nurse, Ashley, whom I called fairly often, was very responsive and provided intelligent medical advice with laywoman terminology that I was able to follow. If the situation required, Ashley would not hesitate to send a nurse out after hours to follow-up with family caregivers to insure the patient was medically stable and take further action if the patient wasn't stable. For those that rated Silverado with less than five stars, I can only offer they had higher expectations and didn't realize they needed to educate themselves of the fact they were going to have to take an active role in their loved one's care and should have considered, instead of hospice, a senior care facility as it is not the protocol of hospice to be on sight 24/7. Doctor's visits were limited but considering the many patients on the Silverado Rolls understandable, but they did make themselves available to their nurses via phone to provide guidance and authorize prescription medications, etc. My husband passed way at the end of May of this year. Silverado Chaplain's and Emotional Support Staff have been in contact frequently to insure that I have all the support needed. While I'm still trying to cope on my own, knowing that they are there and can be here with me with only a quick call is comforting. With Silverado Hospice, I was gifted a year and a half that I wouldn't have had otherwise and I just can't put a price of the extreme value that time afforded me. This is the third hospice care my uncle had been assigned to during the last two years of his life. I can say without a doubt that they were the best of the three that I dealt with. My uncle wasn't one to hold back in terms of concerns or complaints, and he had very few issues about the care and service they provided him. I managed my uncle's care and was the main point of contact for the family. I was very pleased with their level of communication. Every time he had a question or issue, I would call the main number and I would typically receive a call back from his assigned nurse or social worker within half an hour, and the matters were usually addressed within a few hours by someone coming to him. They explained everything throughly in a way that was easy to understand and they kindly answered all of my questions, even if there were a lot of them. My uncle did have issues with the assisted living facility he was in(not affiliated with Silverado), but as far as his interactions with Silverado staff, they were all positive. Once in a while non-nursing staff would come visit with him and bring him a small treat like a donut. Personalized touches like this meant a lot to him, and I know he appreciated the company. I would not hesitate to recommend Silverado if you or your loved one are in need of hospice care. Their employees from the phone operators to the nurses that help in person were all extremely kind, patient and compassionate. I will forever be grateful for the kindness they showed my uncle and me during the last year of his life. read more

Do not use! Incompetent, unprofessional, uncaring, slow to respond - the added stress and pain they caused for me and my mother during her end of life was inexcusable and I deeply regret choosing them. I had to spend hours arguing to get basic medication that took 12 hours to arrive, my mother endured extreme pain due to lack of staff over the holiday weekend, they even sent a person to remove her oxygen while she was actively using it in her final day of life! I will forever have horrible memories tied to my sweet Mother's final days due to the awful service provided by Silverado Hospice! Do your research in advance - I regret I did not. read more

I would not recommend Silverado Hospice. The level of care provided for my mother at the end of her life was not compassionate and caused our family a lot of stress in an already difficult situation. The medical professionals and social workers weren't aligned or well organized. They did not manage her evolving medical needs leaving her to suffer in pain. Our family felt isolated and helpless. The only solace we got was when we checked my mom into the hospital a few days before she passed. There we were finally able to get her the comfort and support at the end of her life. Silverado Hospice, Orange County was an incredibly helpful organization to assist our family when our mother became ill. They provided support in all areas. We were impressed with the doctors, nurses, the social worker and even the staff who answered the phones. The Volunteer Coordinator, Valerie, checked in regularly, bringing flowers, offering support, and offering to coordinate any other services that we needed. Especially impressive. My husband was diagnosed with stage 3 pancreatic cancer in the spring of 2019. By December of 2019, he was told no more chemotherapy nor radiation treatments. He was recommended to transfer into hospice care. We brought my husband home and Silverado Hospice was very compassionate to meet with our needs. We did had a rocky start especially they contracted with BrightStar, some of the critical care nurses were no show. We also had our own (out of pocket) caregivers to help cover so it wasn't too bad for us. Though, I remember I had to cover the night near Christmas when no nurse nor caregiver would care for him and he had a high fever, it was hard on me and it was still very fresh in my mind. What I like about them: 1) There's always a live person that you can talk to and never automated. 2) They are true 24/7 staffed and will come out whenever we needed anything. 3) They are very flexible and probably the most "easy" going hospice company. (My husband had been with another company). Even though my husband had succumbed to cancer recently, I want to give credit to them for the wonderful experience we had with them. I would like to thank Jackie, Brian, Nicole, Tina, Andrea, Laura, etc and especially Leah. She was one of the most compassionate and caring nurses my husband and I have ever met. I did not choose this company, Ana, the social worker at PIH Whittier (formerly known as Whittier Presbyterian) did. Vanessa from Silverado was the intake person who went to see my father in his room at PIH when he was being discharged. Vanessa picked the facility where my father was taken that day, Orchard Post Acute Care in Whittier (see my review for this facility for further details). When I saw Vanessa in my father's room at PIH, I asked her to place my father in a facility close to my home so I could easily get there if needed. She said my father had already been discharged and needed to go wherever they would take him with such a short notice. I agreed, but with the condition that she found a facility close to me later. She verbalized understanding and agreement. She also added that when the nurses from Silverado deemed it necessary, Silverado was going to provide 24-hour care. I told Veronica that if Silverado was able to do that, then my father did not need to be in a facility, I was able to bring him home with me. Vanessa said that the nurses from Silverado have been trained to recognize the signs and symptoms of a patient when he/she is about to die. I trusted Vanessa and agreed to my father's placement under their care. My father was under the care of Silverado nurses from 9/07/2021 until the day he passed on 9/22/2021. It was a constant struggle having them meet my father's needs. The nurses from Silverado are great at customer service, but they do not have the experience needed to deal with hospice cases. My father was placed in hospice care because cancer had metastasized to more than one of his organs. Yet, I had to be on the nurses back to make sure my father was being administered the medication he needed to deal with the horrendous pain. Every single time I spoke to his nurse, Rosie, I would ask her if my father was ready to be provided 24-hour care. Rosie kept on reminding me that she would let me know when my father was five or less days from dying so MediCal would cover his 24-hour care at home. I kept on reminding Rosie, the social workers, and the nurses at the facility that I did not want my father to pass away alone in a facility. I wanted him home so I could be with him when he died. I spoke to Rosie on the phone three days after my father had stopped eating solid food and asked her once again if Silverado was then able to provide him 24-hour care so I could bring him home, she said no. At five days, I called Silverado's manager to let her know what was going on and told her I did not want my father passing away alone in that facility, she said they were sending a nurse to evaluate the situation. The next day, at six days without eating or drinking any fluids, my father was evaluated by Kenny, a Silverado nurse. Kenny said he had adjusted my father's pain medication and told me he was not ready to come home yet. My father passed that day at around eight o'clock int the evening, alone in a facility room. read more

We brought my sister home on hospice this past Christmas eve. I don't know what I would have done if it were not for the knowledge, care and compassion of the staff at Silverado Hospice. It's such an overwhelming time when a loved one is ill. And the Silverado staff guided me and my family from beginning to end. They were there at the hospital, they were there when my sister came home, and they were there when she went to her eternal home. They went over medications, equipment, personal care, and mental care. A social worker visited us to discuss the grieving process and to counsel us. I want to thank our nurses Marlene, Lois, Margarita and Verna who were all wonderful. I would especially like to acknowledge Jesi, however, as she went above and beyond and my family and I will be forever grateful to you all. Thank you, Silverado. read more

You have no idea how logistically complicated the death of a relative can quickly become. You expect the grief. You expect the pain. But what you aren't prepared for is having to set up at-home hospice care when the hospital feels like they've done all they can and are anxious to get your beloved relative off their hands. If you elect for at-home hospice, you are handed a list of twenty companies and told to start calling. Luckily, when the time came, Silverado Hospice Orange County was recommended to me by a social worker and I'm so glad they were. Laura Wilcox came immediately to the hospital and gently and delicately laid out the care Silverado would provide: they would help deal with the pressure a hospital can very suddenly put on you, and would work to efficiently make sure that all the hospice equipment would be set up at my mother's home by the time my stepfather was transferred home by ambulance. And Laura was true to her word. When we got my stepfather home, there was a nurse waiting and we quickly got him setup. She sat down with me and went through all his medications and how we would manage them in a patient manner that kept me and my family from feeling overwhelmed. Silverado also helped us find well-vetted caregivers to care for my stepfather around the clock. You don't learn this until you have to: hospice and its staff and equipment are covered by insurance, but they are not there 24/7, you must hire a caregiver for that... and they are NOT covered by insurance. So you want to make sure you get someone of quality, and Silverado helped us through that process. The hospice nurse comes at least three days a week to check in... and will be there more if needed. I was very impressed that on Day 2 that Silverado's doctor came out to check on my stepfather... she said she wanted to see his condition for herself so she could better manage it. I was very impressed by that. But most of all, the Silverado staff was deeply compassionate and considerate... very aware of how we were feeling and what we were going through and showed tremendous empathy. Thank you, Laura! We were facing the stark reality that our mother was declining in health after a massive sepsis infection, at age 96 yrs young. After speaking with her Internist from Hoag Hospital at great length, I asked if Mom would be a candidate for Hospice Care now. We agreed that would be the best option for her care going forward. After talking with several Irvine and South OC area Hospice Care companies, my wife and I agreed that Silverado Hospice Care Orange County was for Mom. From the very first call to the Admissions Coordinator we knew we were in great hands. We requested an evaluation appointment asap due to Mom's need for greater care and services. The Admissions Coordinator called the LVN who evaluates patients to qualify for Hospice Care to see if she could move an appointment the next morning to accommodate us at Regents Point Skilled Nursing facility. Less than 16 hours later, Mom was being evaluated for an hour and then we met with the LVN who determined, after her review of Mom's medical records, that she felt Mom qualified for Hospice. The process was so incredibly stream lined. Over the next two hours at the skilled nursing facility we continued to meet and discuss both Mom's needs and our families goals for her comfort and care. Within the next few days, several additional staff members from Silverado Hospice Care called and made appointments with us at the skilled nursing facility to meet with us and advise us of what they will provide in terms of material care, medical care, and spiritual support. We had every question answered professionally and with the utmost respect for the reality of our loved ones decline having lived an incredibly giving, productive, long and wonderful life making a difference in both her career as well as a volunteer. We cannot express enough how absolutely responsive and compassionate every single staff member has been at Silverado Hospice Care these last several weeks. Though these next several months and weeks will be difficult, we know we are being guided and supported by this incredibly professional staff and supported by Medicare. We would encourage anyone who is caring for or planning for a loved one who may have a terminal diagnosis, please don't be reluctant to contact a Hospice Care Company. They will fully support both your loved one and your family through the entire enduring process of "End of Life"... Silverado Hospice Care is there for us in every way and we cannot ask for more... My father was unexpectedly at end of care life and we needed to pick a Hospice. I regret picking Silverado . While I hear most hospice these days are horrible , I can attest this one is horrible . Try and find a better one. My dad was only home for 30 some hours and we got horrible care. Laura the admitting liason lied or grossly misrepresented the service. We waited hours and hours for pain meds he desperately needed , we waited over 4 hours for a nurse to even come when we called when dealing with an emergency. There was one excellent nurse that came out once and gave us information we should have gotten before he even came home, it is just too bad it took her so many hours to get to us and even with her asssitance it took 5 more hours to get him a medicine to help him with the pain. The next nurse barely spoke English, and although she was very nice , it is difficult to communicate. I could go on with more difficulties .... but most of you have already stopped reading . In short they do not do what they promise. They do not give peaceful quality end of life care. Read other reviews and try and find a better place !!!! read more

Disappointed - I was told prior to choosing this company that I would have all kinds of support and education. I didn't realize it was such a big business. We brought my mom home in hospice and within 24 hours we were told by nurse Yvonne not to call them for diaper changes. I had a commitment and had my brother watch my mom and my brother who had ZERO education from hospice called one time and this was the response he got. I had to call hospice when I got back home and was told Yvonne was the only nurse on weekends. Prior to choosing this company I was told they would continue the feeding and I didn't realize the minimal calories that would be provided by using the manual feeling tube. I only wish I had a greater understanding about this. She was on the automatic feeding bag I the hospital and I only wish I would have known that she would have had more calories and it would have been better for her to been on the automatic one but apparently it's more expensive. One of the staff members was alone with my mom and I wonder what they were doing with the morphine just saying. Most of the other staff was okay. I feel like the people who sign you up are like car salespeople and do the bait and switch. When you call in the evening, it's like an answering service. My advice is to ask more questions and find out your recourse. I ended up hiring a part time care giver just so I wouldn't have to hear any body's attitude and I asked that Yvonne not return to my home. at this point I don't need any attitude from anyone. And my mom passed away within 5 days of being on hospice. Watching my mom suffer was hard enough and I was in no mood to shop for hospice. Please do your due diligence. It's hard once you choose a provider to switch- the hospital bed was broken - then they have to schedule it when someone from hospice can be there to move the patient if they are in a coma and some of the staff has an attitude. It's been over 5 months that we lost my beautiful sister. I understand, even right now as I'm writing this, how much it's going to hurt for a long time. But, what I remember clearly of those last days that we spent with my sister, was the peace and stress-less time we were given by the Silverado Hospice professionals. From the quick action they took to bring in all necessary medical equipment to the home visits to care for my sister. It relieved us from having to worry about all those medical needs and allowed us more time to spend with her. Silverado Hospice is absolutely wonderful... I brought my Dad home on hospice and they made the process so smooth and easy. They coordinated everything quickly and professionally. All medications and supplies delivered within a few hours, staff easy to contact, nurses were knowledgeable and kind, social workers were supportive, and care assistants so helpful. No one wants to be faced with finding hospice care but they made process easy and gave my family the support we needed. I highly recommend them. read more

The best thing I ever did was sign my mother up with Silverado Hospice. They were amazing. We interviewed 3 different Hospice providers and they were all very nice. We chose Silverado because of a recent experience a family friend had in a Silverado Memory Care facility in SJC. She spend 4 years in the Memory Care and they became like family. It was pretty incredible although a horrible situation. I can't tell you how grateful I was to have the help and direction of the Silverado Staff. They guided us every step of the way. Including the last day. Jill our nurse said my mom would pass in the next 24 hours probably in the next 4 hours. She told my husband and I to stay with her. Play the music low, talk to her, and tell her, her room was ready. It was ok for her to go. She passed in almost exactly 4 hours with both my husband and I by her side. We were with her when she took her last breath. It was incredible and I couldn't be more grateful. I would highly recommend both Silverado Memory Care and Hospice Care. They were 5 star all the way. read more

I will state the facts, and you can decide for yourself. I am just the brother-in-law of the patient, but the immediate family members will be providing their own reviews after the services of Silverado Hospice are no longer required. The family was strongly referred to Silverado when the patient was at the hospital. Since the mother of the patient is in her 80's, she trusted the judgment of the hospital. The patient, my ex sister-in-law(50-year old stage 4 breast cancer) is not the typical hospice patient and is difficult. Silverado Hospice provided an excellent case manager, Irina. Silverado Hospice provided 24-hour continuous care with the help and of Irina. The continuous 24- hour care was divided into 3 8-hour shifts. If one shift would not have coverage, most of the time the family was not notified. Commonly, at the end of the shift, for example 4pm -12am shift, the caretaker would call a family member after the fact. Either the ex-husband, elderly mother, or myself would go to the home of the patient. On at least one occasion, I went to the home at 1am to cover the 12am -8am shift. Under this circumstance. I've also covered multiple 12am-8am shifts. On another occasion, the ex-husband's mother (84-year old) came in to cover the 4pm - 12am shift. At one point, SIlverado Hospice changed the case manager, stopped, and restarted continuous care. The brother of the patient spoke with the owner of the company and was given another schedule for continuous care. Again, a schedule was given to the family, and the brother called back to find out multiple shifts are not covered. The major complaint is that the company does not keep it's word. As a family, we are covering shifts. But when the company gives us a schedule, we have needed to call to confirm the schedule because the schedule is unfortunately meaningless. Best case scenario, they tell us the have one or more of the next shifts uncovered. But this is far better than the VERY common no-shows of the caretakers. Actually, the mother had to cover the 4pm-12am shift today because the brother called and just found out. I am again covering the 12am-8am shift tonight. I work during the day so this is very difficult for me. I am a 62-year old dentist so you would not want to by my patient in the morning! If there was a no-star option, I would have provided this. BUT, I would have given the case manager Irina 5 stars. I do not write reviews but I felt so sorry for the family so this is one way to help at least one family not have to go through this. read more

If I could give this place a Zero or negatively..I would. They promise everything upfront and then they don't follow through. Do not use them! They provide insufficient nurses that are not trained. They contract out other services so no one can give a straight answer. No one is trained on the equipment provided by them. I've had to figure things out on my own and then train their staff. Our daughter was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer in June, which she valiantly fought for 8 months. Three weeks ago when the time came for her to enter hospice care, we were fortunate enough to choose Silverado Hospice of Orange County. There are not enough words of praise to describe the care they provided, not only to our daughter, but for the entire family. From our first meeting with Laura W. we knew we had chosen wisely. All the staff were exemplary, but especially nurse Leah and social worker Laura C. who cared for her with great skill and extreme kindness until her passing. NEVER use Silverado Hospice for your loved one. If I could give Silverado Hospice zero stars, I would. They sent a nurse who was highly incompetent and inexperienced to take care of my loved one. As a result, my relative suffered severe pain, gagged all night, made loud choking sounds and tried desperately to breathe as her entire chest would cave in with each breath. She suffered a traumatic experience for an entire night all because the nurse did not know to massage the medicine down my loved one's throat, instead of just injecting it into her mouth and walking away!! On top of that, Silverado Hospice was very slow in returning calls and when my family and I complained to management, we were given attitude and nothing was done to rectify the situation. This was a horrific way for someone to die and I pray that no one ever has to see their loved one suffer like this, all at the hands of a hospice that we thought we could trust and rely on during the last days of our loved one's life. read more

In the short period of time Silverado Hospice provided care to my beloved grandmother the service was above what our family had expected and received at the hospital. From the moment my grandmother was in their care they were very thorough, caring and very informative of each stage of their care. This was my first experience with hospice, our family had reservations about the care but within a short period of time Silverado exceeded our expectations and made the family feel extremely comfortable during this very difficult time. I would highly recommend them to any family that is exploring hospice in home care. The on-call nurse Jessica and Diane were absolutely wonderful to my grandmother and we are so very thankful for their compassion and level of care during this difficult time. My sister and I are so grateful for Silverado Hospice. My mom was on Hospice just short of a year. Silverado employees were constantly in communication with me regarding my mom's condition. Watching them treat my mom with dignity and respect gave me comfort when I couldn't be with her. When we knew the end was near and my grief was taking hold the social worker that came to visit noticed a cross above my mothers bed and asked if she was religious. I responded yes she is catholic, she promptly asked if I wanted her to contact a priest for a blessing. I am so grateful during a very stressful time they remembered something that was very important to my mother, my sister and myself. This is a very poor excuse for hospice. The first care taker had been on the job two weeks and we were her first family. Dad threw up and she just sat on the couch watching everyone else trying to cope. The first nurse was as bad. She was supposed to provide 90 minutes of training. We got 5 minutes on medications. The second shift was a nonEnhlish speaker who also spent the entire time on the couch. Watching as dad had a rough night and never calling a nurse for further guidance on medication or anything. When he needed changing, hospice had forgotten diapers and clean up materials. It was a nightmare. But if you're lucky enough to get Roxanne M. you hit the jackpot. She was amazing. Competent, proactive and very compassionate with both dad and all of us. She held his hand and talked to him a lot, right up until the end. She was amazing. At the end of her shift they sent another new person who had worked with one family before us. No one had much patience left and she was sent away. Luckily dad died while Roxanne was there to support us all. We survived in spite of hospice. They provided the worst services you could ever imagine. Please don't use this service. I wouldn't wish it on anybody. Especially at such a vulnerable time. read more

Silverado Hospice put me at ease during a really hard time. Knowing that your loved one is in good hands was a relief. A woman named Lora was very helpful and did a great job explaining everything. The whole staff was incredible. I highly suggest using Silverado Hospice. read more

This review is long overdue, but hopefully, it will help people in selecting caregivers. In Oct. 2016 The Saddleback social worker and the doctor who treated my father suggested we meet with the representatives from Silverado. We had avoided hospice as we thought hospice was only for those who are dying. These ladies were so sweet and explained that hospice provides three levels of care. Since my father has a terminal illness and was not on his deathbed but needs some additional care at home, this was a perfect solution to our needs and concerns. Well, you know the saying, "if it's too good to be true..." Things started out fairly well. Supplies and medications arrived quickly - except for the antibiotics that were needed. A few phone calls were needed. After a month or so, their care and service went downhill fast! When my father complained of back pain, the nurse put him on some codeine medication, then progressed to morphine, which was basically killing him. One morning he was so drugged that he had no idea of what was going on. We tried calling the Silverado doctor, who never answered or responded even when the nurse tried calling him repeatedly. Finally we terminated hospice and called 911 to rush him to the hospital for drug overdose, dehydration, and respiratory failure. He recovered and is still with us. Apparently, Silverado either did not realize what level of care he needed or were only here to help the patient to die. The doctor (Dr P), whom the representatives raved about, came once after the first week to meet my dad and family. He did his "song and dance" and was never heard from or seen again. He never answered or returned any phone calls the entire time my dad was under hospice care. The nurse Glinnis was more business - like and made rather insensitive comments. The health care workers were lovely and caring. There was a stream of different people coming and going but it did not seem like any of them consulted with one another. This was frustrating as we never knew who would appear and would have to explain the situation to the new person each time. The nurses were constantly changing his medications, which was confusing to my mom. Overall, their care and service was unacceptable. We would not recommend Silverado to anyone. read more

My father went into hospice care in Mission Viejo in December, 2012, at a board and care facility in the Verona Court group. The hospice caregivers were absolutely amazing: always considerate of my father's dignity, gentle in touch and attitude, super attentive at all times, especially in his last days. Diane even spent an hour finding his favorite style of jazz on her iphone to put at Dad's ear on his last night on earth. I cannot say enough good things about these people and this service. read more
