Worst hotel ever. Came to Philadelphia for a funeral. Figured a casino hotel nearby would be nice. WRONG. As soon as we opened the lobby door the smoke hit us like a freight train. Being non-smokers it bothers us more than it would smokers. The check-in was fast and we went to our non-smoking king room on the 10th floor. Once we got to the 10th floor we could breathe easier. The rooms seriously need an update and ours was missing the inside handle on the sliding door to the bathroom. It was rough wood with splinters around the edge. There was dust build up along the wall under the air conditioner vent. We went to the pool area to use one of the 3 small the hot tubs. The first one had debris on the bottom and an ash tray submerged in it. The second one had a few leaves on top but looked clean so we used that one. The water was warm but not hot. We ate supper elsewhere so we wouldn't be subjected to the horrendous smoke. Upon returning after attending the wake - about 8:30 pm - we had to listen to a couple fighting, yelling and crying down the hall. (There is ZERO insulation in this hotel. Every sound, every door slam (and I do mean SLAM), every toilet use and flush, every whispered or spoken word, every footstep can be heard. Not only heard but amplified by the acoustics!) Security was called twice on the fighting couple between 9 and 11 pm, but they did not make them leave. They continued to fight and cry until he manhandled her down the stairwell around 11:30. They returned around 2 am, loud and obnoxious in the hallway. A man from their neighboring room opened his door and told them if he heard one more noise he was going to beat his ass! We heard no more from them after that. In short, don't stay here unless you enjoy dirty places full of noise and ridiculous drama that management does nothing about.

My husband took on a surprise trip. I feel as if I had fun. But the majority of the good machines were closed. I think i won 28.00.

Empty casino. You need to leave the property and drive to town to get food. Apparently they can't get any employees to work there.

With almost nothing to do while I worked in this part of the country, I was ecstatic to find a place like the Silver Star Hotel & Casino!

The main reservation is located on Highway 16, west of Philadelphia, MS. Pockets of their tribe live in the surrounding area, ownership which became part of the reservation. Innovation & vision by a businessman elected Tribal Chief led to construction of the Silver Star Casino & Hotel, which opened in 1994. A portion of the profits went back to tribal members, which immediately raised their standard of living. Choctaw Central, the school system for the reservation, immediately attracted the best teachers with the high salaries. Not only did the casino provide jobs for the reservation, it also provided well paying jobs for the surrounding small towns. Driving down the rural road in Mississippi, as one would approach the Silver Star, it felt like you were entering the "Twilight Zone". (Are any of you young enough to remember that TV series?). In the midst of rural land there stood a glitzy Las Vegas style casino & hotel with a marquee featuring big name talent. Life had changed for Neshoba & Newton counties. Entertainment was provided for east central Mississippi & western Alabama. I remember driving around the parking lot just to see the license plate locations of the people who had come to gamble. Busses were sent to towns for day trips to the casino. Limos were sent to the casinos on the Mississippi River to pick up high rollers. The reservation is not considered a part of the county. So liquor became available in the dry Neshoba County. Upscale restaurants surround the casino floor. But I love the buffet, which offers all you can eat homestyle Southern Cooking. Breakfast is phenomenal at the buffet. Shopping is located in the area between the hotel & casino floor. A Spa provides an additional amenity. Since we own my Grandfather's home & farmland about 15 minutes south, the draw of the casino floor became old. We would go for food & entertainment, some of which was located in stage areas on the casino floor. Once parking behind the Neshoba house after driving back from my Mother's house in town, we could see the laser show at the casino vividly in the rural darkness. My late husband, who wasn't familiar with the area, thought it was a UFO. :) Over the years the area has expanded. The Golden Moon was built across the road from the Silver Star providing new restaurants and a bar in the dome atop the structure where you can view a lot of Neshoba County. Additions also include 2 championship golf courses and a water park. In recent years a smaller Casino was opened in southern Mississippi. Another is planned for Louisville, MS. The complex is now called Pearl River Resort & the reservation is Choctaw, MS. After the majority of the tribe was forced to relocate to Oklahoma in the 1820's by the Treaty of Dancing Rabbit Creek, the remaining indigenous population deserves this prosperity.

Anxiety that is perpetuated by having anything touch my face. Since the pandemic started, I've worn a full face shield. Face shields have been accepted by the scientific and medical community as being as effective (and sometimes more effective) than a cloth face mask at stopping the spread of COVID-19. My HR department at my company stated any face covering was acceptable, and I have never run into an issue before. Today, I encountered an extremely rude hotel staff member who refused to let me in for only wearing a face shield without a mask. When I explained my situation, he still refused to listen and wouldn't permit me access. Not only that, but I had received my COVID-19 vaccination several weeks ago and had recently tested negative for COVID-19 so there is zero chance of me being able to acquire or transmit the disease!
